While doing some research for my latest video (plug:)) I came across these pics on Google's Elvis image search.:supriced: They were obviously taken on a commercial plane. The only time I recall Elvis doing this was when he went to meet Nixon. The clothes look like they may be the same ones he wore at the time.:hmm:
Whatever the hostess is saying to him he doesn't look happy.
Any clues??

She's probably saying one of three things;
1 "Excuse me sir. Would you like to return to your seat,we're about to land."
2 " Coffee,Tea,or Pepsi?"
3 " Exuse me sir. Are you Elvis Presley?"
Good idea for a competition;" What did the hostess say to Elvis ?"

Point of order young Brad. First, after my posting the link for these pics you said, and I quote "Thanks for the link. But still no date" when it clearly stated above the thumbnail gallery " 60s & 70s. You then went on to remark that, and again I quote" He looks a bit a bit puffy for the 70s"
Now Studtz Bearcat comes on and says he thinks it would be Dec 70 (thanks for that Studtz) and you make the above statement.
Why did you not accept the evidence I put forward? :hmm:

I notice there is a bit of glare coming thru the windows so I'd say am.
Did you also notice the clock hasn't moved much? So whoever took these was either very fast with the shutter or they were taken off a movie reel. Wouldn't that be fantastic !!

Because Elvis did not purchase the Lisa Marie until April 17th 1975, but the purchase wouldn't be announced until June 11th 1975. The visit with Nixon happened on December 21st 1970. ;)

These pictures are NOT from his flight to Washington. Elvis is wearing different clothes here. They are taken in the beginning of 1971. It's not a commercial flight but a rented plane. If you look closely to Elvis' clothes you can see the following. He's wearing a black jacked with a high collar. A white shirt, also with a high collar and if you look very closely you can see he's also wearing a tie. This was not the ensemble Elvis wore during his vistit at the White House. That is just great Cliff and Memphis over at FECC found a VERY interesting newsletter from The Littlerock ski club
http://www.lrsnowski.com/Newsletters/2007_08/V2-August-Liftline-2007-PageMaker.pdf
And in the newsletter is this:
Perhaps the most exciting early trip was to Vail in 1969 or 70.
we flew on a direct Braniff flight from Little Rock to Denver. The
flight originated in Memphis and on board waiting for us was
none other than the King himself – Elvis! The first thing he did
was to get on the intercom and sing “Love Me Tender” to the
passengers. Then he made a trip through the cabin making a
brief stop, talking to everyone, most of whom were ski club
members. It was truly memorable and I have always admired
him for his down to earth way of treating us on that day

The needle on the clock is not moving at all. It must be out of function, since the movement of Elvis and the stewardess is to long compared to the clock. Even it was taken with a serial-shutter. Anyway, Cliff, you deserve to have a special section on this site, since these pictures are VERY rare. Amazing, that you found them on the web.

More info on these shots in the plan.
According to Day by Day (EJ) : Nov 18 : Elvis flies back (from Denver) to LA arriving at 5:45 pm.
So, it could be that the picture was taken enroute from Oklahoma to Denver Nov 17th , 8:03 AM.
None of his December 19-22, 1970 plane flights took place at this time.
12/19 - Memphis to Washington D.C.(late afternoon) - solo
12/19 - Washington D.C. to Dallas (late evening) - solo
12/20 - Dallas to L.A.(early morning) - solo
12/20 - L.A. to Washington D.C. (late afternoon) - with Jerry Schilling
12/21 - Meeting with President Nixon at 12:30 PM
12/22 - Washington D.C. to Memphis (late afternoon) - with Sonny West
So we can rule out the trip to Washington It seems like.

Some nice stories aswell.
Story 1
A Kiss From Elvis
I mention in my bio that I was kissed by Elvis–passionately. Actually, it was more like deeply and warmly. But it was nice! It was 1971 or so, and Elvis had just given Denver Chief of Police Arthur Dill a check for $800 to fully equip a gym in honor of slain officer Merle Nading. That was a lot of money! Elvis wasn’t wearing a tie with his open collared shirt, so when Chief Dill gave him a tie tack that looked like little handcuffs, Elvis borrowed someone’s tie so he could wear the tie tack for a few photos. (That style shirt–or the actual shirt–is seen in a lot of photos of Elvis in that era, so he must have liked the look!)
I was in a nearby office when Sgt. Bill Smith, the police photographer, called me and told me to come over and get my photo taken with Elvis. I said I didn’t want to, but Sgt. Smith told me to get over there. Someone introduced me and Elvis was very, very nice about the whole thing. He said, “What about you let me get a nice photo with you, Honey?” I said OK and Sgt. Smith took the picture.
Then, he told Sgt. Smith, “You should get one that is more friendly.” That’s when he gave me the kiss. I expected a quick little peck on the lips, but what I got was a lengthy, warm, rather extensive kiss! I was so embarrassed I almost couldn’t think of anything to say. What I did say was, “If you’re very lucky, I’ll give you my autograph.” He smiled and chuckled a bit. I asked him about his baby and he showed me two photos of Lisa Marie, which he had in a little plastic photo holder.

Story 2
A story told by a former Denver police officer.
" My dad's friend was telling me that he and Elvis were flying on a commercial flight back home to Memphis one night and the stewardess came into the First Class section where Elvis and his entourage were. She hesitantly approached him and said: "Mr. Presley, I hate to disturb you but the word is out that you are on this flight. The coach class is extatic. Can you come thru just to waive to those in the next cabin because we cannot land unless you say "hi" and calm them down." Elvis being the southern gentleman said: "Sure."
Elvis went through the curtain separating the First Class section to coach class. He was waiving to the crowd and he was wearing a diamond ring on every finger. My dad's friend was standing right next to Elvis and he had his hand on the back of a seat addressing the audience with his shy dissarming smile. A mother, father and a five year old boy were sitting in one row of chairs. He was waiving with his left hand and his right hand was affixed to the back of this one chair. The mother was in awe of Elvis thinking: "He is the most handsome man I have ever seen." The father was getting nervous thinking: "I hope my wife doesn't run off with Elvis!" The young lad was starring in awe with his mouth in his lunch tray starring at the one large particular ring Elvis was wearing. The boy didn't even know who Elvis Presley was. Elvis had a ring on every finger but this one ring was so large it literally took up two fingers (like a SUPER BOWL RING). It was gold encrusted with large diamonds. The ring actually was 13 carats! Elvis was getting ready to retreat to the First Class section when the lad said: "Sir, you must be somebody important." Elvis in his southern twang replied: "Ahhh, son, why do you say that?" He said: "You must have a really good job to be able to buy a ring like that one you are wearing." I sure hope one day I can grow up to buy a ring like the one you are wearing." Elvis was instantly touched and immediately said: "Son, you won't have to and took off the large diamond ring and placed it on the boy's lunch tray and walked back to the First Class section! My Dad's friend, Bob was thinking: "Why didn't you give me the ring!"

A gallon of sweat and a camera angle can make a HUGE difference as well.:blink:
I don't think it would make a difference at what point of the show they were taken at. All one has to do is look at photo's from this tour as it progressed and can see the physical change that occured to Elvis. Ive heard many say that he could come on stage one night and look puffy and swollen so bad, then the next night he would look like Elvis, just fine....obviously brought on by excessive health issues, and drug abuse.

In one of their newsletters there is mention of Elvis:
"Perhaps the most exciting early trip was to Vail in 1969 or 70. We flew on a direct Braniff flight from Little Rock to Denver. The flight originated in Memphis and on board waiting for us was none other than the King himself – Elvis! The first thing he did was to get on the intercom and sing “Love Me Tender” to the passengers. Then he made a trip through the cabin making a brief stop, talking to everyone, most of whom were ski club members. It was truly memorable and I have always admired him for his down to earth way of treating us on that day."
The dates narrrowed down to the following.
''On a commercial flight from Memphis to Denver in November (after the 17th) or December 1970''

Again, I disagree.
Look at these candid shots With Joe Esposito in the parking lot of the the Sheraton Hotel in West Palm Beach on February 13, 1977, just the next night after those horrible photo's from the tour opener show were shot on Feb 12th. Elvis still, in these photo's look's a wreck physically, didn't need the sweat to prove that point proving that his pysical condition changed drastically in a short period of time.
