What would yours be. Mine is 1977. I hope I don't get shot for that, its a hard question to answer as to why. I just feel Elvis' voice was at its peak, so rich and I just feel more than anything Elvis was more himself that year than any other. For example, I've heard some say the last year or so of his life he started really talking like a "hillbilly" to be correct term, almost like he was trying to be like he was before he got famous maybe i don't know. But in 1977, the performances, maybe not like the early 70's, but imo you can not compare the two, they are all great in different manners. Elvis in 77 represented him like in the EIC special, what you see is Elvis the fan, not putting up any fronts, doing what he did best, singing for his fans. Just listen to the ending of Can't Help Falling In Love from May 22nd 1977 on the Import CD Elvis Tonight 8:30 !! Its amazing literally, and Elvis playing Where No One Stands Alone from Febuary 16th 1977. Amazing stuff. So that's why I choose 1977. I can sit through the CBS Tapes and just watch the peformances for what they are and yes enjoy them Because through the pain and sadness elvis was suffering from, for whatever reason may have brought them on, all he wanted to do was please his fans and so he did.
So whats your favorite year concert wise and why ?

His first year of 1969 in Las Vegas because he was fresh and excited and felt great and you could see it.

This is a hard one!
I think 1977 was good...and 1969 was amazing he was back in his element, and the 50's were spectacular and the start of everything..but I have to go with 69-73...Amazing with That's The Way It Is,the vegas concerts,Elvis On Tour, and of course Aloha From Hawaii...

My favorite concert is 1969, 1970! He was so raw and full of energy. He seemed to be really enjoying himself. I really liked his voice in 1977 but I see a very sick, and tired man everytime I look at the 77 concerts. I see a man who has lost his spark for life.:'(

I think Elvis was the type of person who got lonely alot not just in the 70's but all through his life. And imo it didn't get bad until he started messing with the stuff the downers and pain medication. But from time to time we see or hear that spark in shows from '77.(y)

I'm not saying he was great in 1977, it was not a great year by no means but he had his moments !

It was not a good year emotianally and physically maybe not,but yes he did have his moments..I don't mean to bring up anything bad but,I don't think Elvis really was that big....I think there were other causes and that caused alot of swelling...Especially in the last concert...

My favourite concert year is 1970, he was on the top in that year. But this doesn't mean that I don't love "Elvis On Tour" from 72 and the Aloha Show from 73.

Normally I'd say 1972. It was Elvis' album 'As Recorded At Madison Sqaure Garden' that made me the Elvis fan I am.
But lately, after really listening to 'Elvis Recorded Live In Memphis', 1974 has become my new favorite concert era! Now that's one kick a** album!

If you like Elvis Recorded Live In Memphis then you should see about getting the following CD's if you haven't already obtained them.
No doubt our man was in top form for that March 1974 tour !!!!

I have 'Steamroller Blues', but I'm jotting down the other ones. And yes, March 1974 was one killer month for Elvis on stage!
Heck, for 'Let Me Be There' and 'Help Me' alone make 'Recorded Live In Memphis' an awesome show!

What I found ironic is right after that he says, 'Man, I hate to read.' I'm sure he was refering to reading lyrics, but I always think of how much reading he did (his spiritual books) especially at that time of his life, and his saying that always brings that to mind.

Probably i think he was referring to reading and having to learn the new lyrics to the song he was talking about.

If I had to pick one year....and I mean really really HAD to.....then it`s 1969 for me....there was a rawness to the shows that I love....and there is something just more Rock`n`Roll about them.:)

'69 is always a fans favorite :P:P(y)
But to me the reason its never what I would consider the best is because Elvis and the band were just then getting use to each other and weren't polished enough it had the hard edge but still phenomenal year.

I only wished that during his concerts in '69 he'd done a little more material from 'From Elvis In Memphis' and 'Back In Memphis'. I know he had to try and keep it a balance of new songs and fan favorites, but I would've loved to have heard 'Only The Strong Survive', 'Do You Know Who I Am', 'Any Day Now' and 'A Little Bit Of Green' -live-. :notworthy

Personally I find 72 a bit `fast'.
69-70 were the most energetic and raunchy, 74 (early) was cool, mid 75 great, late 76 brilliant and i have a soft spot for his efforts in 77
not much i don't like!
