View Full Version : Elvis The Complete Works - 30 CD Box Set From Sony BMG
Unchained Melody

Ernst Jorgensen is working on a 30 CD Box Set that will contain all official masters as released during Elvis' life time with another 3 or 4 hours of the most interesting alternate takes, demos, live recordings, home recordings. The set will be USA made and a limited edition to less than 10,000 units.
Ernst Jorgensen : This is a one shot deal. It's coming, it's here, it's gone as Colonel Parker would say. It will be 30 CDs in a very prestigious packaging with a fantastic book with it. USA made limited edition less than 10,000. It's killed me for 15 months now. The work load has been absurd but I could not deny it. I could not deny being a part of that. To me, it is the most astonishing wonderful idea. Here's a whole definition at this time is that it is all official masters as released during Elvis' life time with another 3 or 4 hours (and we have to define that) of the most interesting alternate takes, demos, live recordings, home recordings. There will not be 1 unreleased element on that box because that would be brutally unfair and only encourage bootlegging. You have to want to own that thing. We're not taking you as hostages. But at the same time, it is also a total restoration of every Elvis master with new digital technology.
From an interview with Megan Murphy of Elvis Unlimited in their latest magazine.

Why can't I win the lottery? With all these Elvis releases coming out, huh? I know with Christmas coming it should be on my Xmas list but I know that nobody else will buy all these "goodies" for me,except myself.

For nothing new, re-packaged again, not sure if its worth that price. Perhaps 10 dollars per CD for 300 would make more sense still not worth it though imo since its all already out there.

If they are all remastered to the standard of Elvis no1 album using DSD technology then I will save up and buy one. To have great quality versions of lesser know songs would be great. For example, I love 'tender feeling' but the sound is awful on my album. Just one of many examples that would make this worthwhile to me.

Total waste of time and money. Designed just to make more money for BMG.
Most of us have all the songs ... and, these days, just how many freakin' times can they remaster tracks? There has been no hugely discernible improvement in sound these past few years anyway.

I just saw that this set will probably cost about $1,000.00!!!!
Are they stupid enough to think that they're going to actually be able to sell this set at that price???
Sorry, but that's just ridiculous to offer it at that price. (n)(n):cursing:
I was going to get this set but...after seeing the possible pricing...there's not a chance I'm gonna buy it.

$450 divided by 30 cd's? $15 each, not bad, except - i think i've already done that - but on my easy payment plan - ya know- one at a time! (y) i wonder if they'll put a break down of Elvis' picture like they did on that 50cd set.

I suggest Elvis -- The Complete Rip-Off would be a more accurate title. There're not too many people for whom this set is going to be worth the steep asking price.
Nice it may be, but just-another-repackage it also is; for most of us, any incremental improvement in sound quality is likely not worth the price, especially given that a great many of us have already bought some of the masters many, many times over. If you've got the money to blow on it and feel the need to do so, fine, but I can sure think of better things to do with my semolians than validate this latest get-rich-quick scheme from BMG.

I just saw that this set will probably cost about $1,000.00!!!!
A thousand dollars? Wow...what a bargain: just US$33.33 per CD, plus tax (about an extra $78 in my jurisdiction). Not bad, considering the CDs are going to be pressed on the molten metal from Elvis' 1969 International attendance-record belt!
And here I was, afraid that they were going to be getting greedy with this thing...

I believe BMG released a big multi cd set similar to this with everything Elvis recorded back in 1999 during the Artist of the Century campaign.
It's just Sony BMG way of trying to milk money out of fans by releasing the same songs over and over again but it aint gonna work.

I would like to have it and if it were about $300 I would buy it. Honestly though if we wait long enough FTD will have released an upgraded copy of every EP album that suffers from lower sound quality anyway so that would be the way to go. There definitely is a difference in the sound quality from the Elvis in the 90's versions of some of the albums compared to newer releases.

They did...and I agree with your last sentence. BMG is crazy if they expect fans (least of all the 10,000 units that they're making) to buy/sell this enormous box set. Are they not aware that most of the country/world is/are in financial hardships??? :cursing::angry:

The release of this box set to the sound quality standard of Elvis No1 hits or the Viva las Vegas CD is the only way I could find some value on it. And yet, being a fan who already owns most of the RCA/BMG/Sony catalogue, plus most of the FTD catalogue, should I spend all that money just for the sound improvement? Why should I want: The Song of the Shrimp, Three Corn Patches, or Yoga is As Do The Clambake Does on DSD sound?
A 10 Cd box set: Elvis selected works, with DSD / Elvis No1 hits Viva remaster sound, and with a market price for the average dude, that would be the one I take home.

This would be more than a little bit out of my price-range...and to be honest it seems like a bit of a cheek to even consider releasing it. For the newer generation of fans, and the fans yet to come it is sad that they will find it so hard to complete their collections,so many of the albums have just been dumped and deleted from the catalogue....things like this might be a tempting item for a lot of people....but it`s still highly unfair.

'More news about 'Elvis That's The Way It Is – The Complete Works (3DVD/6CD/Book box set)': EIN has more information regarding this recently announced new box-set that is causing a high level of excitement amoung Elvis fans - and is due for release from the new International label around November this year.
>> The DVDs are an improvement over what everyone has bought before because the production has taken months using top-class editing and with all the possible Elvis camera angles put together into one amazing sequence. Plus there is the impact of a true high-quality stereo mix of all the concerts there to match the vision. The International label has got together as a group since we now have all the sound for all the concerts so that we can release the ultimate TTWII package that BMG/Turner ought to have done for Elvis fans years ago.
>> Since it is the 'Complete Works' we can assure everyone that 3 hours of Elvis' fabulous rehearsals are included as one special DVD.
>> The hardback book will differ from all previous collections in featuring all the Elvis pictures that have ever been seen with regard to TTWII, including the making of the whole project, and will include a lot of memos etc plus a lot more details than previous books. We are intentionally not using movie 'screen grabs' that people have had before, instead a quality production of the complete collection of pictures that we have uncovered.
>> Although the 'International' label is new to Elvis fans, this project is such a large undertaking that we are an International group who have come together to create a package that only a core-team could design and produce. Unlike a lot of sub-standard fly-by-night home-produced Elvis releases, this is as high-quality as can be produced. Weabn assure the fans that previous individual releases from producers within International have always received nothing but rave reviews in the past.
The stunning lavish box set will come with 6 CD's containing complete recordings of all the 6 shows that were recorded for the original movie Elvis That's The Way It Is. It includes many unreleased tracks (both officially and unofficially) from the shows with all the dialogue in its correct places, much of which is also previously unreleased. If the box set is done right this will be a cracker!–especially interested in the live material– AFTERNOON IN THE GARDEN,IN PERSON,AS RECORDED AT MADISON SQUARE GARDENS,ON STAGE, all these terrific CDs need audio upgrades and will undoubtedly feature on the forthcoming release.
The fact that Ernst said it will be limited to 10,000 copies tells me the quality will be high but the price has to be right for fans to fork out the dosh.(y)(y)

Pricing Elvis out of reach of his fans. Good going. How is this supposedly going to draw new fans?
I like the alternate name of rip off, good thinking.
Even if I had the money I wouldnt pay that price for something that is already out there and that I have in dupe and triple form in some cases.

If you are speaking of the new TTWII boxset called The Complete Works it is not a BMG release. Non Official.
But if you are referring to the new 30 CD Boxset set for release by BMG, I agree, how many times are we going to get the same stuff in better sound, packaging etc when 10 years down the road theres going to be even better technology they could use.....

Thank you Col Jon Burrows for your answer. I was asking about both sorry I wasnt specific.
Unofficial? Like bootleg kind of? Still how much new unseen footage can there be? TTWII I am speaking about.
As for 30 CD I agree w/you here a lot. Not only technology but even without that, how many different ways can you hear or listen to the same thing? I think enough with repappckage. Great that his music continues on but not at the cost that they would like the fans to pay, and definately not with what the world economy is now and many people unsure with jobs or lost jobs, lost homes. All of it. :( I think Elvis would be sad if he could know what they fans are being charged to enjoy what he loved to do and what we loved him for.

This set will from what I have been told is the Out-takes taken from the best source known at this time (which isn’t the crap that’s on the 6 DVD set or the 11 DVD set) then it has been edited & re-mastered enhancing the sharpness & colour etc.. Put in order, including the rehearsals – re-dubbed with better sound, so for 95% of fans that have this footage already are getting the chance now to get it in a quality far superior to what they have already and possibly (spent anything from £5.00 - £500.00 or more just see it)..
And yes more footage has turned up but most of it is what’s already out there, but this time without any logos or timers on it, so again it doesn’t really add to the length of the footage just the viewing pleasure with Logos, but there will also be some Logo footage it is impossible not to, especially if you want to see the multi angles.
That should answer your questions....
