Unfortunately the Beatles version is so far superior to Elvis' they aren't even on the same planet.

I love Elvis' voice better over all of course but to me, Hey Jude, is one song the BEATLES put their stamp on. I read on the CD notes that Elvis didn't want, Hey Jude released to the public but RCA once again put together an LP that to me was a total mess, "ELVIS NOW".
Even though, I love every song on it. Compared to his previous releases, ELVIS COUNTRY & THAT'S THE WAY IT IS, in my opinion RCA put together an LP of mixed up song styles & topics with no direction. Just milking Elvis every step of the way and cheating the fans and Elvis by not looking out for his full artistic potential. For example the Camden LPs to me were a total waste.
To put new released hits like, Burning Love, Separate Ways and Always on My Mind on them at a time when LPs were popular not 45 singles was to me, stupid.

Hey Jude is a song which Elvis just did not get a handle on IMO
I think the key he sang it in was part of the problem, because to me he just did not sound natural as he sang it.

I have to disagree on this one. I really love the throaty sound of Elvis' voice on Hey Jude and it's still much richer than Paul's. It's very different for Elvis and it's one of my favorites.

I agree about that(y)-for me the problem is that the Beatles original seemed so free, as if it were nothing but a jam-their ending had a "wild unchained" feel with all the voices singing and Paul and Johns screams interspersed.
Elvis's version was IMO too controlled, especially the ending. I kept waiting for him to break free and wing it.
Its one of the few times I just did not like his cover that much.
I loved all his other Beatle covers of "Yesterday", "Something", "Little Sister/Get Back" and the jam of "Lady Madonna"

Elvis' voice is not good on this song. It is in the wrong key and sounds VERY strained to others recorded in the same period. Again, not even on the same planet when compared to the Beatles version.

To me Hey Jude will always be a Beatles song no matter which artist has covered it,past or present.Just like Hound Dog,All Shook Up and Jailhouse Rock will always be Elvis songs,no matter which artists covers these songs in years to come.I have heard both versions of Hey Jude before and it will always be a Beatles song no matter what.

I thought Wilson Pickett did the best cover of the song

I love Elvis' voice but to me, this song fits perfect with its originators. Most of the time I like Elvis' version of other people song.
That video clip of The Beatles, they are singing over the recorded version. You could hear Paul's voice double with his own..lol

By the way, this is the first song I believe I heard has a baby that put me under the musician spell. My mother had quite a wide range in music taste, as to do I now.

I love elvis singing better than the beatles,so elvis all the way for me.

It's an Elvis Presley messageboard, so of couse most here would favor Elvis.

But both are legends imo, and Elvis greatly appreciated the Beatles work (y)

Like I said, its an Elvis Presley forum, what other kind of response would you expect.

There's always been this debate, Elvis or The Beatles, why can't we get the best of both worlds. :notworthy

My post was not directed towards you are anyone else really. Just stating a fact that of course most fans are going to favor Elvis over the Beatles when discussing it on an Elvis MB like I previously stated.;)
