...about the next FTD release??? :hmm:

Although I haven't even received my copies of CLOSING NIGHT and DOUBLE TROUBLE yet, I was pondering the possibilities of what FTD should consider releasing next!

I know we've been treated to a couple of soundboard releases from 1975 already by the good folks at FTD, but I am REALLY hoping that they will release one of the shows from July '75 in Asheville (particularly the show from July 24th, where Elvis sang some different songs like PIECES OF MY LIFE, SHAKE A HAND, JAILHOUSE ROCK, etc.). All of the Asheville shows were VERY high energy, with Elvis in a GREAT mood and performing LOTS of rare songs!!! I just think one of these Asheville shows would be an AWESOME addition to the FTD catalog!!

Would love to hear thoughts from other fans!!

I can't disagree with that. In fact, any soundboard from July 1975 would most likely be very much anticipated if announced as an upcoming release.

But personally, the release I am most anxiously awaiting from FTD (aside from those we might speculate about) is Nashville '71. That series is waiting to be completed!

I would also welcome nearly as much something from the Deleted Albums series. The one I would most like to see next is the Today album...which I know you wouldn't care for, Mike! ;)

I totally agree with you Mike (y) , I have all 3 audience shows from Asheville, and they are ALL terrific shows.
If BMG does have a soundboard in their vaults, they will make loads and loads of fans very happy, including me.

Another option might be, The Uniondale shows from the same month, that also are high quality shows. Let's just hope for the best.

There is SOO much for us fans to wish for, let's hope all wishes will come true on CD in the future.

I would also like to see some early or late '76 shows....something like March the March 17th or 20th (m) shows that are out on audience recordings.......( Running for President ( march 20th AS )is among my favaourites from '76)
and Vegas on December 5th or 12th 1976 would suit me too (y)

Sounds like most everyone so far that has posted here would also love to see one of the Asheville shows released! I agree with you that they are all EXCELLENT shows (I also have copies of all 3 shows), but considering the fact that I am VERY partial to the TODAY album, I am definitely hoping the show from the 24th is chosen, considering the OUTSTANDING (and extremely rare) performance of PIECES OF MY LIFE from that show! (y)

I do agree completely that, if for some reason the Asheville shows are not a possibility for release, that one of the Uniondale shows (hopefully the show where he performed YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE) should be strongly considered!!

Glad to hear you also think the Asheville shows are worthy of release on the FTD label!! The Asheville shows do seem to be a pretty popular choice among everyone here on the board!!

I also agree that some of the early '76 shows would be excellent choices for future releases! One of my personal favorites is the Cincinatti show on the CD HOLDING BACK THE YEARS!! I know that one is already available in soundboard quality, but as you said, some of the other shows from around that same tour in March '76 that aren't already available in soundboard quality would make for an excellent future FTD release as well!!

According to Joe Tunzi's latest book (Sessions III), a soundboard of the Asheville, NC 7-23-75 show does exist on soundboard; however, it is also noted in the book that it's incomplete :'( . There is no mention of the 7-24-75 show existing on soundboard, but hopefully there is one somewhere out there???????

Well, if it is true that no complete soundboard recordings from any of the Asheville shows are known to exist, then perhaps FTD would consider enhancing the sound quality of one of the audience recordings from these shows? As far as audience recordings go, the Asheville shows are all in fairly good quality to begin with...so maybe a little enhancement on FTD's part would make them a little clearer and even more enjoyable, thus ensuring a potential release in the future?!?

The 7-24-75 show is one of his better shows (from the 70's), mainly because he changed the show around and performed songs that were never a part of his regular show, plus listen to him during this tour and you'll immediately notice how strong his voice is throughout the tour, most notably in Uniondale, NY - listen to the high notes he hits (ex: You'll Never Walk Alone,and even on the rockers like See See Rider and Big Boss Man).

I've always liked that album, but my appreciation for it went way up when I heard the alternate takes on 6363 Sunset.

It reinforced in my mind that I didn't like the original album as much as I should have because it really was given a disservice by the overdubs and especially the compression--particularly in its effect on Elvis' voice. I know we are talking about different takes, but listen to the difference between the way he sounds on take 1 (6363) and the master of T-R-O-U-B-L-E, and takes 1 & 2 of And I Love You So (Platinum & 6363) and the master, for example. There is a noticeable difference in the takes on these recent releases, and it is a positive one: Elvis sounds less nasal, his voice fuller and more natural.

When I first heard T-R-O-U-B-L-E, I honestly was a little disappointed in Elvis' performance, and thought his voice had lost something. (WHAT? Yeah, I know how it sounds--get over it. ;)) It seemed like his voice was getting higher, and I couldn't figure that one out. Well, on the first take of the song, he sounds so much better to my ears, and I can only conclude that it's the compression that's to blame.

The alternate of AILYS on Platinum sounded better to me than the master, and then when I heard the other on 6363 I realized it too showcased a vocal superiority over the master.

Maybe close to a year ago I read an interview with Ernst in which he said that it was not uncommon in the 70's for compression to be used on Elvis' vocal and then again on the whole track. I think as far as albums go, Today may be where that is most in evidence.

Anyway, I would love to get the original album, as many remaining outtakes as possible, plus the undubbed masters in their true forms--oh, and Tiger Man too. I think all that could fill out two discs nicely. (y)

Yeah, me too, I'd like a totally remastered "Today" and come to think of it I would love a similar job on "Elvis Now" - too many good songs on that album were wasted -especially "Untill it's time for you to go".

I have always felt that Felton Jarvis, while a nice guy was not the Producer Elvis needed.Too bad E did not share my thoughts- now I if I were (h) .....oh well, just bring on the remastered stuff. :lol:

In my opinion, I think the TODAY album might very well be THE most underrated album of Elvis' career! The entire album is FANTASTIC...I think every song on the album is of high-caliber! And, the album has a nice blend of ballads and rockers....a little country, a little rock n' roll....it's just an AWESOME album!!

So, I am ALL for the double CD set....remastered, with bonus tracks...the WHOLE package!!! (y)
