Marfan Syndrome
Also called: Arachnodactyly
Marfan syndrome is a disorder that affects connective tissue. Connective tissues are proteins that support skin, bones, blood vessels and other organs. One of these proteins is fibrillin. A problem with the fibrillin gene causes Marfan syndrome.
Marfan syndrome can be mild to severe, and the symptoms can vary. People with Marfan syndrome are often very tall, thin and loose jointed. Most people with Marfan syndrome have heart and blood vessel problems, such as a weakness in the aorta or heart valves that leak. They may also have problems with their bones, eyes, skin, nervous system and lungs.

I don't know, but I think Elvis was average height, he wasn't very thin (except when he was on a diet and working out regularly) and if he would have been loose jointed he would have probably injure himself multiply times while doing his dances on stage.
And as for the other symptoms I think they appeared only after a long period of taking his presripted drugs everyday, which most definitely took a tall on his body and especially his heart and veins. Haven't heard about his bone probs before. And as for his eyes, skin and lung probs, it could be genetics, or caused by a lot of other things in his stressful life.
I'm no doctor and I'm not saying there's no way he had this Marfan Syndrome, I'm only saying that we can't just jump to conclusions, based on some syndroms, which maybe a lot of people can relate to and don't have the disease in question. Doctors probably have to run some quite complicated tests to find out whether a person is suffering from a particular syndrom.

"heart valves that leak" I think that if he had a leaky heart valve it would have been picked up when he had his army physical. I don't remember any mention of Elvis having a heart murmer.

Actually, Elvis was much taller than what is considered "average" for American men. Most medical reports will say that that the average height for American men is 5' 9" tall.

..sorry for going a bit off topic for a min,
but am a bit confused, cos some sources say that Elvis was 5'11'', some claim he was 6' or even 6'1'' tall..exactly how tall was he then ?

There are so many conflicting stories about how tall Elvis was, but I bet Rosanne would agree with me that he was somewhere between 5 11-3/4 to 6 ft tall.
The above symptoms for Marfan's Syndrome don't sound like something Elvis had at all.

That photo of the hand looks just like Elvis' hand. I was just asking everyone's opinion, looks like it's leaning towards, No he didn't have it.

Yes, you are right Diane. The army shows him as just a "whisker" under 6 feet. And, NO...Elvis didn't have Marfan's Syndrome.

MojoElvis, I wasn't faulting you at all. You saw this article, you were curious and I realized that.
The fingers in the pictures are much too long and skinny, not slim, to be anything like Elvis'. He just had "musician hands". I have the same kind of hands, long fingers but nowhere as long as those in the photograph.

Diane, you think he was joking? To me it seemed like it was very moving for Bill when Elvis said this to him....I don't think this was the right moment for a joke....but then again it was Elvis...:hmm:;)

I think he was joking also Diane. There would be no reason for Elvis to lie about how tall he was when we have all seen and read the reports from the Army.:blush::blush::blink:

wow, now even 6'2'' lol, I too think that Elvis was joking there & altho it was quite a moving moment for Elvis and Bill, it sounds a lot like Elvis to make a little joke at the end so he would make Bill smile, which practically is not a joke, if that makes any sense lol.
Thanks for posting this vid anyway, haven't seen it before and really enjoyed watching it (y).

Either the whole story was fake or Elvis was messing with his head. There's no way Elvis was 6'2". With heals he barely reach the six foot mark for his FBI Narcotics Badge mugshot.

The official figures of Elvis length are the ones that were given on his Militairy papers. Elvis didn't "lie" about his length, let us say he invented a new truth. What people seem not to be aware of is that Elvis had several complexes. He wasn't happy with the shape of his neck and with his length. He wished he was taller. That's why in later years he wore lifts in his shoes and boots.
Most people measure other people's length by comparing them with theirselves. So this is where different reports of Elvis length come from.

I just read in a book that Elvis used to turn his collars up, not because he especially liked them that way, but he thought his neck was too long.
One day he told Priscilla, who hadn't had a problem with her neck so far, that the collar of a certain blouse was too short for 'her long thin neck'!
From that day on she wore popped collars as well! :lmfao:

A leaky heart valve usually causes a heart murmer and it can heard through a stehtoscope. I've had a murmer, so does my sister, it sounds like a swosh. I just tend to think that if Elvis had a heart murmer would have been heard by one of his doctors. Mind you the info never made it into the media if he did have a murmer.
I have an echo cardiograph every 5 years to check that my valve is not leaking. technology is great, you get to see you're heart a beating away.

My Brother Has Marfans, So I Know All About It. Elvis Does Not Have Them! He Just Has Other Health Issues Later In Life. He May Have Some Signs, But Does Not Have Marfans. Believe Me. My Brother Is Almost 7 Feet Tall And Went Through Two Heart Surgeries.

Hounddog and Diane, thanks. My brother is doing fine now. He cannot work anymore because of it. His back bothers him because of his spine is swollen and it is because of marfans. He has large hands big feet! Oh, man, growing up with him that I couldn't figure why he was so big...I mean BIG AND TALL! I am the oldest of four and he was the second. I am Deaf/hard of hearing. I grew up protecting him because he was so thin AND FRAGILE that you could see his chest as it was pointed out. We didn't know what it was until few years ago when he complained his back hurts when he was helping with the yard work. the doctors did the test and turns out that if he had done more WORK without going to the doctor, he would've dropped dead! And, not know what was wrong with him. Then, on his first heart surgery, he hard a big hole in his valuves and had to be replaced (almost lost him on the first one) Then, he had another which came out good. He just first time after forteen years of marraige, has a little girl who looks like him. She is now 2 years old. They take her for check ups once to two times a week for Marfans...she MIGHT have it. We don't know. Mom thinks it runs from her side of the family.
But, in all he is doing okay, takin easy and has a HUGE collection from the 60's to present of records you wouldn't believe! Just like me who LOVES VINYL RECORDS!
