In 1972 Memphis didn't yet have The Heartbreak Hotel, so if you were determined to stay on EP Blvd., this was as good as you could get.;) I made a pic of the sign, but NO, we did not stay there!

I like the part of the sign that says "Color TV"! How times have changed! Is this now The Heartbreak Hotel or is it totally different? Thanks Rosanne.

I got a laugh about the "Color TV" ad as well. This place isn't there anymore. The HH used to be called Wilson's World(I think) and EPE bought it and re-did it.

I stayed at Wilson World, it was great being so close to Graceland, they gave you a key which opened a gate next to the Lisa Marie, it was a short cut to Graceland, oh the good old days.

I'll never forget my dad driving past that hotel on my first trip to Memphis in 79.It was a sign we were getting close.

The Elvis Presley Blvd. Inn IS STILL there.I just passed it on my way to a restaurant Elvis used to eat at about 2 weeks ago. It's in a bad part of town.

Is it really?? :supriced:I didn't notice it when I was last there in April. I'll look for it in October and make a picture and see how it compares with the old one. It must really look bad by now.

Wasn't EVERY child the remote back then? When we were first married and there still were no remotes my hubs and I would laugh and say "I can't wait til we have kids so they can change the channel like we always had to".:lmfao::lmfao:

I think this property actually sits on the second Holiday Inn ever built. As previously posted, in a VERY bad neighborhood. Thanks for sharing all the pictures and stories, love them all!

That hotel sign is shown briefly in Elvis On Tour just before that clip from the Madison Square Garden press conference, as if it took place in that Memphis hotel. That always struck me as funny.

Thanks for the picture, Roseanne. You would have snapped that right around the time that video was taken.

OMG! Were we all mobile remotes? I use to sit close to the tv just so I didn't have to run into the room! Now, hubby will spend 20 min. looking for the remote instead of walking over to the TV and switching!

On Lonely Street. My daughter loves to add that when we tell everyone that we stayed at The Heartbreak Hotel.......(me) "We stayed at the Heartbreak Hotel and it was a fabulous place...." (her) "on Lonely Street. It really is on Lonely Street." She's hysterical!!!
