We all know elvis dyed his hair black. But judging from this photo, I'm wondering when he started going grey...
Anyone else know of photos where you can clearly see the grey coming through, please post.

Supposedly he was already graying when he filmed Harum Scarum.I guess it kinda ran in the family because Vernon went gray early.

That would be a excellent question for Larry Gellar

I would say he would be the best person to answer this question for us. :hmm:

Larry Gellar? Who's he the guy that dyed his hair? You know, I have to say, I never even realized Elvis had grey hair until I saw that picture. I figured he was still his natural color (blond/brown?) under the dye until 77 .. I'm sure there's people that know the answer to this. And as long as I'm on the subject of Elvis' looks.. Was there any point where his eyebrows were drawn on? I've seen a few photos where his eyebrows look fake. Though, I'm certainly no make-up expert!
Also, I want to mention, I don't mean to dissect every single aspect about the man. But I guess I can't feel bad about it. Since there's like 2,000 forums on the internet talking about every breath and movement the man ever made..

From what I'm reading in my Elvis book,it says that Charlie Hodge dyed Elvis' hair for him approximately every three to four weeks and washed and styled it before every show.Elvis even said to Hodge, that if he ever went bald,Charlie would be fired.

Its mentioned from the MM that elvis' hated to bathe in his later years but every single night made sure his hair was taken care of and washed...

That's funny what book is that from?
I noticed some pictures where you see a whole strip of white line, where his hair was growing in. Other than his eyes being like Gladys', I think he took after Vernon.

Didn't Priscilla say the samething in her book too? That Elvis hated to shower as well.

I have that book somewhere. Regarding Priscilla's book, I wouldn't take any of it serious. I doubt she even wrote it. She probably just told the story to someone and they type up all B.S. to make her look so sweet innocent.
I read from ,the Revelations book that the shower problem only happened in Elvis' last two years, so how would Priscillass know?

Its very evident elvis used eye liner alot even in july 1975.
Check out the photos from July 20th 1975 Norfolk Virigina.
After he stopped using it in 1976-77 it made his eyes look really bad, like he was ill.

I doubt there will be many pics of Elvis's gray hair simply because he didnt go out like that.

It seems to me that nearly all the photos I have seen in which some gray/white regrowth is evident come from '76. There is no way, especially once he became that gray, that he could have been going three or four weeks without getting his roots done. White on black is going to show up in a matter of days. So I've always been surprised that we don't see more photos like that unless he was getting touch-ups all the time, which must have been the case, if I had to guess.

Well, by that time he was obviously not feeling well.....

Agreed--and it badly needs to be updated. I thought there was supposed to be an updated version of that book reissued? Whatever happened to that?
And, it's been said that (besides going prematurely grey like his father), Elvis also dyed his hair for the movies. So, the reason was two-fold.

you can see grey roots here, and his eyelashes are very pale, too.
the eyeliner - he'd been doing eye makeup since he started singing in the 50's with Scotty & Bill.

If Elvis let his hair gray like Vernon, his fan's would still find that attractive (the ladies anyhoo) He might even been mistaken for country singer Charlie Rich (The gray fox)!:lmfao:

To me I think that was his natural hair color don't forget spotlight can change color at different angles. Elvisn natural hair color was Sandy Blonde so...I think that might be the blonde coming threw not grey depends on way you take the pictures...

I don't recall seeing pictures of Vernon where he didn't have grey or white hair, but he was always a very handsome man, even though I don't think Elvis resembled him as much as he did his mother.

Elvis was 42 years old when he died.I would say that if he didn't have some gray by then, there was something wrong.Lets face it youth doesn't last too long even if your the king .

Yes...it's all in the gene's. My grandfather's hair was totally silver at age 25. It had been really dark until then...:blink:

I went to high school with a guy that his hair was already "salt and pepper" in colour and he must have been 17yrs at the time.

I started to gray in my very early 20's! I don't at all blame Elvis for going for the bottle! However, I'd love to have seen him with graying hair. Gray on men looks fabulous, imo. I've only recently quit using the dye in my hair, and it's only because I hate the maintenance! :D
