Has anyone ever heard of this or know anyone who was around when this was supposed to have happened:

"September 6, 1968 - Presley family members receive two phone calls saying that Elvis has died in a plane crash in Kentucky."

This is the first time I've ever heard of this and I've done A LOT of reading!!!!

Where did you hear this, Elizabeth? :supriced: I know Elvis had a fear of flying for many years, but that he overcame that fear...

I read this on a website that gives a chronological timeline of Elvis' life. I was as surprised as you when I read this. I've read a number of books on Elvis and never heard of this.

It's absolute rubbish.

Elvis was in Palm Springs during that time, with friends and family.

I never heard that rumor before. Obviously it's a lie lol, because Elvis lived nine more years.

You can be sure that it had been anything BUT a rumor that it would have been announced worldwide.

As far as I know, the almost plane-crash happened in 1956, when Elvis was flying right to his recording of the I Was The One (Or I Want You, I Need you, I Love You??) song. He arrived so nervous that only recorded one take. After that, he always try to travel by bus.

Not quite.

On April 13 (a Friday!) 1956, a charted flight from Amarillo to Nashville on which Elvis flew was plagued with problems. The pilot lost his way and had to land in El Dorado, Texas. And an engine had cut out.

There was never any suggestion that it was in any way a near-crash or anything like it.

But that day, Elvis vowed never to fly again.

The next day, Elvis cut I Want You, I Need You, I Love You. The session was devoted only to that song, at which 17 takes were recorded, several of which have subsequently been released.

There is no explanation as to why the session was cut short. It was not because of the flight - as myth suggests - because directly after the session, Elvis boarded the very same plane and flew back to Memphis.

And the day after that, the 15th, he flew again to San Antonio. And he made dozens more documented flights in the 50s and 60s.

The session was cut shot most likely because of Elvis' dissatisfaction with his backing singers (Gordon Stoker, Ben Speer, Brock Speer). The trio weren't quite working as well as he would have liked.
