Do you remember the day Elvis died?
I was really young, in fact me and my brother were watching them put the rides at this carnival up that was in town. Some hippy type guy was walking by with a radio to his head and shouted, HEY ELVIS PRESLEY DIED, WOW MAN, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!
we didn't believe him, we thought either the radio or he was starting a bad rumor. We grew up watching Elvis on TV and listening to my mother's records.
So when we got home, my mother and my two sisters were crying watching the news. That's when we knew it was true. My dad didn't care in fact he thought we were all over reacting. He kept saying, Elvis was a drunk and a drug addict!
He was more into Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.
So where were you the day Elvis died?

Remember like yesterday. In my Nova coming back from grocery shopping. Heard on the radio. Jumped out of the car, got kids out and groceries real fast. Called hubs first and then Aunt Lorraine to see how she was doing.

Thanks Missy, I think, in my heart even though I was really young, I thought he was going to live forever. He was and still is my hero.

On Tuesday 16 August 1977 we had the worse weather for years. I was getting ready to go out but a news bulletin on TV stopped me going out. We had thunder and lightning with rain most of the day and evening. Because of the news about Elvis I changed my mind about going out. On the 10 o-clock news Reginald Bosanquet came on and confirmed that Elvis died that day. I said to my parents I don't believe it. After the news I went to bed and listen to Radio Luxembourg with an ear piece. Of course they were playing Elvis all night and the rest of that week. I fell asleep with the radio on and the batteries weared out. I was tired next day and still hearing news about Elvis.
The following weeks in the record shops, Elvis records were selling very well and you were spoilt for choice. At one point Elvis records in the UK ran out of supply and had to import some records because of the demand. In the UK I think they showed on BBC Elvis In Concert in late October 1977. When he got to singing My Way I could not watch the rest of that show. My friends new I was upset about Elvis going. I have been an Elvis fan for 38 years and still think Elvis is better than the rest of singers we have in the charts today.

I was home when I heard the terrible new on television. My husband came home from work a couple of hours later and said there was nothing else on his car radio. Neither one of us could believe it.
A couple of years ago I ran into a man who owns an antique store and he said he and his wife were in Memphis in an RV the day Elvis died and that immediately all stores and even gas stations shut down....Memphis went into shock. He said the whole city was in complete chaos.

Can't belive 31 years has passed...i remember back in 1987: That seemed to be unbelivable that it was 10 years since Elvis died.

I Still Can Remember It So Well As It Was Yesterday. I Was 9 When I Started Collecting Elvis Records And Books. I Was 13 When He Died. I Remember I Was Sitting On The Floor In My Room Playing An Elvis Album I Got From My Neighbor. It Was "fun In Alculpuco" And Mom Came In To Tell Me That Elvis Was On The News. I Didn't Feel Anything Until I Went Into My Room And Cried. I Thought I Had The Chance To See Him One Day Soon And Missed Him. Still Do.:'(:'(

Interesting question as I wasn't born til 13 years after Elvis died but its strange how I can feel so strongly for someone whom I never met or wasn't even alive when I was...that tells alot in my book.

I was 9yrs old when Elvis died.I was playing with the kids next door.My dad came home from work and mentioned something about going to a funeral.I have no clue what he was talking about, then he said that Elvis Presley died.To be honest with all of you,I really wasn't "into" to Elvis at that age.My folks were and still are country music listeners, especially my mom.Since that time,I have made up for all that lost time in missing out on Elvis. He was and still is the greatest singer of all time.
