Nettie, your first name is French but people adopt other nation's names all the time. It's the last name that is important in determining where someone is from.

This isn't a great link with my name and Elvis because its only the first name but I was excited when I first found out about this story. I have the same first name(Colleen) as the flight attendant who was on a plane with Elvis once in '73. She was the one who said Elvis invited her to his concert that night and then Linda invited her to meet them in Tahoe the next week. She was able to stay in the suite next to Elvis and Linda while in Tahoe with them and sit front row at his concerts. I sure wish it was this Colleen who got to do that!

Some interesting things, lol.
My horse's name is "Rusty" (As we know Elvis played "Rusty" in a "Girls, Girls, Girls"). Rusty's pedigree name is "Southern Gentleman" (which Elvis is). Rusty is a palomino quarter horse/stock horse, I also have a black horse, so Elvis and I liked the same colours, lol. I would adore riding an American Walking Horse, wow, now that would be an experience. There are some over here, apparently. If I could, and I would like to later, have a lot more animals here, love them. We've both had peacocks, lol (and aren't they an "experience") hehe, want some chooks! :D a cat, lol, and some more dogs! :D One day, when I can afford them. :D
My mother's name is Glenys (Gladys).
As it is a public forum, can't say the name, but my family surname is the same as one of Elvis' girlfriends, lol.
I named my darling, now passed, Collie, "Jess", (we both like collies) that is why I named myself "Jess" as the name, "Jessica" is my favourite, plus other reasons.
Lots more coincidences, but that is another subject. :D

One of my cats names was 'Priscilla Beaulieu', we used to call her either 'Priscilla' or 'The Beaulieu' :D. Strangely enough, I wasn't an Elvis fan back then, it must have happened during the 'Dallas' period ;).
Four years ago we got a Jack Russell baby girl, and she already had a name: 'Ella', needless to say I was very satisfied :D.

That's cool. I 'm a firstborn and my parents "expected" a boy and so they had only boys name in "stock". I figured out to be a girl and my parents were "in trouble" about my firstname since their choices didn't fit at all :). So each of the came up with a quick choice of girls names. Luckily my father won "the fight". My mother's proposal was really inacceptable...

I hated my name most of my life. Then when it became so similar to Elvis'
I was happy that my brother had chosen it for me. He was about eight and

Yes, children died more back then. The brother I mentioned and the one
who was the next child after me both died young. The brother after me
was only 13 months old. But, my mom had 12 children - 8 boys and 4 girls.
Now, there are only 3 boys and the 4 girls still living. I always felt like the

I understand how Elvis could feel the presence of his twin brother, Jesse.

So true.......I know in my own case, I felt like two people, always...and Mother didn't help by feeling depressed and more or less mental regarding the loss.. she gave me both middle names...which would have been fine, but she went back and forth from Julia to Jeanne. She never got over it, and to this day, people know me by both names. I'm so sorry for Elvis and his parents, this happens a lot. You blame yourself for living.

In German there are several varations of the name.
It's Schmid, Schmidt, Schmit for example.
I don't know if the German Schmidt is the origin of the english Smith.
I think it might have occured in in Germany and in England at the same time that family names were "invented".
Before people were named Adam son of William e.g.
I guess to remember it was at the end of the middle ages that professions became family names.
If your family name is no so common like Smith or Miller it can be quite interesting, what it's original meaning is.
