tough call. Could have gone with Way Down or others but opted for Unchained Melody, a genuine Elvis classic that actually benefits from Felton's production add-ons.

Unchained Melody is one of the most covered songs in the history of popular music and overexposure has probably reduced the song's ability to 'move' listeners these days. It is so familiar that it tends to go in one ear and out the other when another version comes along.

The fact that Elvis performed such a ubiquitous tune and managed to revitalize its emotional potency is an extraordinary testament to his rare gift as an interpretive singer. His version on this album makes you feel like you're hearing the song for the first time, and so for that reason it gets my vote.

Its Easy for You! This song, to me, is written just for Elvis. I always picture him singing it for Sonny and Red about the book they wrote. I know it was probably never meant that way but when I hear it that is what I think about.
" You never tire of the good life, call me in a year or two. I`ve got no choice I`ll forgive you and it is easy for you.

While WAY DOWN is certainly a great song (and probably one of my all-time favorite Elvis songs), I voted for IT'S EASY FOR YOU here simply because it is one of the most heartfelt ballads that Elvis ever recorded in my opinion. The pain and emotion that you can hear in his voice is just incredible... :hmm:

You've hit the nail on the head there buddy, which is why i am so fond of the album. Elvis related so much to the songs he was recording and I think that was one of the few ways for him to get his feelings out was through the music. The takes on the Jungle Room Sessions FTD are marvelous.

Just a quick question, why was Let Me Be There on the Moody Blue album was it just to fill up space due to lack of songs Elvis recorded ?:hmm:

rickb
08-11-2008, 07:52 PM
Yes, Let Me Be There was a space filler and really the only let down on an otherwise top album of contemporary material

Especially his last 2 albums, in my opinion...I truly think the studio recordings from the FROM ELVIS PRESLEY BOULEVARD and MOODY BLUE albums are probably the closest thing we will ever get to an audio autobiography of Elvis' life, especially during that time period. :hmm:

And yes, I think the undubbed recordings from THE JUNGLE ROOM SESSIONS offer fans an even closer look at the raw emotion that Elvis poured into each of those Jungle Room recordings!! Some of that emotion I think gets a little lost in the overdubs that were applied to the recordings for the albums, but just listen to those undubbed recordings from THE JUNGLE ROOM SESSIONS FTD...Elvis is clearly laying it all out there for everyone to hear!!

Bradley, I have the" Jungle Room Sessions" FTD and I love it. The emotion and power in his voice is just blows me away! Especially when he sings "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain". I often close my eyes and just picture him singing those songs in the Jungle room. Imagine being there!!! WOW! Kim

Way Down and Moody Blue are the 2 best songs on the album. Pledging My Love
is probably in 3rd place in my view.

However considering how good the Jungle Room sessions were as we all know from
listening the the FTD release , they really did a crap job of distributing that material.
For one material from these sessions didnt need the overdubs that they got. I mean
overdubs are fine if they add value to the songs, but in this case they actually take
away value from the songs :(

Couldn't agree more Mike !

Music was how Elvis got his feelings out and what he was relating to at that time is well said in the songs he recorded. Stuff like Never Again, It's Easy For You, and the unforgettable "HURT!!!!". This songs were all almost like autobigraphical to his life. And it shows how strong and rich his voice was in the end, sounded simply out of this world IMO !!!!

I've always felt the version of Melody from 6-21-77 was far superior to that of what version from Moodyblue which is Ann Arbor.

I voted for Moody Blue, but I love the version of Unchained Melody here. As someone said before, the overdubs actually improve it. I also really love He'll Have To Go. The acoustic guitars on that one sound so crisp. I've always enjoyed that song ever since I heard Jerry Lee Lewis sing it, and Elvis does just as good a version.

I really young when I bought the LP and my favorite song on it was, "Way Down".
I remember owning the 45 too. I have the blue one standard black one. I read somewhere that the black one is wroth more money. I started collecting Elvis LPs when I was 9 years old.
Now I have about 95 LPs and don't know what to do with them.

The original album is okay....but I really prefer the outtakes....listen to FTD "Jungle Room Session"....this is an awesome cd. I love the longer versions...the jokes inbetween the songs.
Elvis is in a very good mood during this session....I don't understand why people keep repeating he was in such a depressing mood. To me he seems to have lots of fun.

Voted for Unchained Melody, but the whole album is fantastic,it's really hard to choose a favourite.

The version from April 24th Ann Arbor, MI is the version on the album.

While Its a good version, nothing tops that of the version from EIC Rapid City June 21st 1977.

I agree....but what about Fort Baxter's "Moody Blue and other great performaces"?
"Where No One Stands Alone" is my favourite....never rehearsed before but so cool.
"Reconsider Baby".....just great......and one of Elvis most powerful songs "You gave Me A Mountain"....this one will knock you over.......
