From What year are your favorite versions from :hmm:

For me, nothing tops the version from Elvis In Concert on June 21st 1977. The emotion and feeling that he puts in the version brings goosebumps to me skin when listening or watching that performance. Simply brilliant.

Elvis singing My Way in 1977! The emotion and power in his voice is spine chilling. The words in that song certainly sums up his life and knowing it was his last concert makes it even more meaningful and powerful. I have to be in the right frame of mind to watch it. It seems all the raw energy he would give with his body he now gave in his voice!!! I believe he sang My Way in that concert straight from his heart because he knew the condition he was in. You have to admire him for having the guts to go out there and do a show like that for his fans. God Bless him....

I totally agree with you Bradley. The voice and emotion at the same time are amazing. It never fails to get to me the way he looks at the camera for the lines "I've loved..I've laughed and cried". IMO...that is the saddest look, yet the energy he puts into it you really feel with that performance that he "gets" it.:blush::sad:

IMO the "In concert" version is the far best....so emotional....sounds like he is feeling every word.....
When he in 72 said that he personal didn`t really mean the words he was singing...." I havn`t even spit it out yet", he said...or something like that...then I think he meant that, but in 77 I actually think he felt the words....

I would say the 1977 version, its was most powerful and his expressions. I just start balling when he looks right into the camera in 1977.

For me, the 'Elvis In Concert' rendition of 'My Way' recorded in Rapid City on the 21st June 1977 has to be the definitive version of the song, not only from Elvis, but from any recording artist in history, full stop.

Simply amazing, on several levels.

It has to be 1977 for me , the power and quality of his voice shows through and really gives the song an extra edge over the other years.I agree that the Rapid city version is THE definitive version and is of course made more so by the fact we have Elvis on film performing it to add that extra factor to this version. It has always seemed ironic to me that regardless of whether they should have or not that the camaras were there on that LAST tour to document it and in retrospect bring the curtain down on 42 years of a very special life .

I think he sings it better from a technical perspective in "Aloha" in '73. But for sheer powe and emotional impact you can't beat the EIC version in '77. I prefer that one.

all versions are oke but i voted for 1977
elvis at his very best
his voice stronger then ever
his final year 1977 and the words are prophetic you know
its about his life life he's sing in that song
many songs are his biography

like
you gave me a mountain , seperate ways , hurt , how great thou art,
pieces of my life, for ol' time sake(1973),always on my mind, if i can dream, cant help falling in love with you, fool, and my way and more

I prefer both. I absolutely for one second do not believe (as has been hinted in the thread) that Elvis knew his life was coming to an end and that this was his 'swan song'--not in the least.

Neither do I Tony. I just think it was a rather sad song and we all know how depressed Elvis was at the end of his life, the song just suits him perfect.....

IMHO, all of the version of My Way are noteworthy. In 1973 he was polished and singing with amazing professionalism. Yet for me, watching and having seen him sing MY Way live in 1977, it was less professional (if that is the right word) and more Elvis singing from his heart. It's almost as if he went from performing a "good song," to singing a song which was truly a message from his heart and life to his listeners.

1977!! The most touching performance I have ever heard and seen from a singer. Nobody would be able to put more emotion into this song. It is amazing and simply heart-rending. I will never forget when I saw and heard it first in "This Is Elvis" documentary on TV, in 1992... (Anyways I love his performance in the "Aloha From Hawaii" concert from 73 as well.)

It is Frank's song I agree. The differences in eachs take on them is night and day. Frank's is intimate-almost like hes in a saloon lounge with just a few people at the bar-subdued.
Elvis's is meant for large crowds-shouting to the world with a climbing crescendo ending. Frank's I like and Elvis's I like-but for different reasons. Even though Frank did it first (and it is his song) I think Elvis's version is equal to Franks.
