I watch charlie and elvis and they seem to have a great time togther. I was wondering if they were close or was charlie just like the rest of the guys around elvis? I don't know if elvis had favorties or if all the mm were all the same, but l always wondered about the friendship between charlie and elvis(y)

I think they were close for many years Jen. Charlie lived at Graceland and was always the one who tried to keep Elvis' spirits up from the day they met. I'm not sure though how close they were after Larry Geller came on the scene and took up a lot of Elvis' time.

Charlie was the one always there with a smile on his face..think he felt it was his job to keep Elvis happy and I think for the most part he did..can say I think besides Elvis he was the hardest workin' man in the TCB camp.
If you haven't seen the dvd The Elvis I Knew by Charlie Hodge its a must have. Although Charlie seemed to have believed it was really bone cancer Elvis had and that killed him i think that was his way of grieving...perhaps made it easier to understand.

Yes the were good buddies. But, anyone read where Elvis slapped Charlie and fired him? I think charlie commented about Elvis' weight gain and it P.O. Elvis. It could've been Albert (goldigger) Goldmans book. But, he's full of B.S. too.:lmfao:

I've read that in June 1977 Charlie was drunk and was mad because elvis got someone a car and he was going on about how hes the one that deserved the car and Elvis punched him right in the face or something.anyone heard that one?

I read that too but can't remember where. I remember it as a slap not a punch. If true, sounds like Charlie picked the wrong day to be childish.

I think elvis got mad at everyone in the group once and awhile. You can't live with a bunch of guys and not have any problems every so often.

Charlie did have a drinking problem and I'm sure that aggravated Elvis even more. He'd had enough of that in his own family.

Good point Jen!! (y)
I think for the most part, Charlie was a good guy and probably helped to keep Elvis as focused as he could, especially on stage during the later 70's!! :hmm:
Of all the guys Elvis had around him, I think Charlie was one of the most loyal to him, along with Jerry Schilling. (y)
