Is it his good looks?

Is it has voice?

Is is his charm?

What draws us to this man? Each of us is here for a reason. What is your reason?

:king:I am drawn to ELVIS for all those things. In 1956 when I was just nine years old Elvis touched something deeply emotional in me....both the personality of ELVIS and the way he presented himself to us through his music that just never left my heart. :king:

Rosanne, do you share bedroom secrets? If so let us know about your fling and we can add another reason to why we love Elvis!!! Seriously, there are many reasons why I love Elvis! It is the whole package! He was beautiful inside and out! The talent he had will never be matched by anyone. He is one of a kind.

Elvis inside, plain and simple. I would have loved to have helped with the relaxed man, the one who needed peace, that, I would love to have given to him. I'm only attracted to those special men, with special qualities, he had them. I wouldn't care how he looked, where he lived, none of that matters. Just him.

The qualities? Elvis was caring to strangers, animals, loved ones, his friends, family, all around him. He had a past, which made him, him, this gave him empathy for others, because of this he was well rounded, which makes him more attractive to me, more than he could ever know. To give to people, of oneself, is so important. He did.

To me, charm comes with a connection. His laughter, his smile, his eyes, his personality. The way he loved his mother. Good manners, similar ideas on life and what is important; varied interests in common; the spirituality and religious mix which is rare; being open, too. Raw masculinity as well as sensitivity. His love of music, his talent because of his love. He was a gentleman, which is very appealing. Few have his qualities, plus the emotional recognition factor; the "click"; the coincidences, they are consistent; he has all of these wrapped into one .... His fun personality, his seriousness, his moodiness. Reportedly, he loved hugs and kisses too, lol. :0) God bless you, Elvis, with TLC .......

what draws you to elvis?

His downfall, how he self-destructed and let it all go to waste. Definitley one of the most fascinating things about his life to me anyways.

And then of course there are the obvious answers, the voice, the looks, charm, charisma, talent, etc.

I have to go with the whole package there too because that's what we've seen but honestly, if I had met the man and he hadn't had the voice and success, just an ordinary man, I would still have been very strongly drawn to him because of his personality, face and the way he held himself and walked...love that walk!:)

I agree Diane! If Elvis was a nobody and he walked into a room full of people everyone would stop and stare. He just had that power about him. Of course he was so beautiful / handsome that I think his looks alone would make people stop and catch their breath! He was one unique person! A gift to us all.

Both of you ladies are right on the mark. There are NO words to describe the total animal magnetism and charisma that he had. He could have walked into a room with 100 people in a jogging suit and the room would fall silent except to say "WHO is THAT guy"? My Dad would always comment on his walk and his posture...they were perfect.:D I know we all say Elvis was human, and yes, of course he was. BUT..there's never been another human like him.:notworthy:king::notworthy

I had never seen him when I heard my first Elvis song-the voice is what drew me. Just as it drew John Lennon when he heard "Heartbreak Hotel" but had never seen a photo or knew who it was.
I asked my aunt who is singing that song-she said thats Elvis.
She then showed me the cover of "Loving You" and I thought WOW his look matches his voice. I then began my (so far) 46 year fanship.
The voice combined with the looks, and charisma are all part of it.

One word:

Love.

For all the trash Albert Goldman wrote, he may have made the most profound observation of any commentator:

"so compelling is his immaculate narcissism"

He was describing Elvis' appearance and manner in Las Vegas in 1969, perhaps the pinnacle of his stage career.

But consider how the description extends beyond there. Elvis loved himself and drew you into that love. He did so in a way that no other performer has ever done or could ever get away with doing, before, during or since.

Now, Goldman may have been trashing Elvis, even there, however clandestinely, but the power of that observation remains undiminished, in my opinion. Immaculate narcissism. It's both a great insult and a great compliment. Either way you take it, I think it taps something deep about Elvis' persona and aura.

I mean, listen to one of Elvis' most self-obsessed songs, "There's Always Me". To my mind, it's a masterpiece of a recording, unsurpassed by no one. Consider the astonishing climax: "Deep in my arms you'll come to know / Other loves may come and go / But my love for you will be / Eternally / Look around and you will see / There's always me". On the one hand, there's nothing more complex about it than the singer pining for an unobtainable lover. On the other, the grandiose sound, brought out in the dramatic soprano backing and Elvis' sudden shift into a rich operatic baritone on the final line, practically turns his ego into a living entity, crashing down like a roaring waterfall. Only someone with a staggering ego, and a self recognition of every inch of that same ego, could do the song justice -- that someone is Elvis.

P.S. Anyone who thinks I'm calling Elvis egotistical (in the pejorative sense) is wrong. I'm talking about his tremendous sense of self and basking in that love of himself as reflected back to him by others (i.e. his fans). That's the sort of "holy communion" I feel when watching the Comeback Special, Aloha From Hawaii and Elvis In Concert. It's the unspoken bonds and connections between people that make life so interesting. On some inexplicable level, Elvis' name is connotative of that idea.

Definitely all the above opinions! So many varied ones, too. I debated on whether to answer first then read, or read first, then agree with everyone. Elvis attracted me first. He was just so beautiful. I was 9 and he was on that screen, so very handsome - the movie "Tickle Me"
Then as I read about him, his generosity and his kindness to everyone, how he made everyone feel special, that really touched me. QjqZqeht0X4
watch him at 1:00, he approaches Miss PolkaDot Dress, and she's so delighted, and she asks if she can touch him, sure, he replies, and he spends an entire moment where it's just the two of them, he's looking into her and only her eyes and has a small conversation, one that she will never ever ever ever forget! Suddenly, I want to be Miss PolkaDot Dress! To have that one individual moment that just belongs to me!
Then I read:
Quote: Col Jon Burrows

It was his voice that caught my attention first. I noticed later he was a nice looking man. After researching his life; I was hooked. He came a long ways in such a short time.
I've alternated being mad and aggravated at him and respecting him .
The respect and compassion has won out ! He did the best he could !!
And left us with all he was able to give.
