hi there
i too have this date as an obsession. :) i was only 12, but i remember that TIME pretty well. growing up in vegas has its advantages! ;) the I hotel had just opened and my father was working there, having been transferred from the flamingo, like so many international employees.
anyhow, i have been saving all kinds of pictures from july and aug 69. after looking thru them all, i do believe i have july 31. i have dates on my pictures only because that's how they were named when i found them on the internet. it seems elvis wore a black gi, red and blue scarf, red and black belt. the black pants had red inserts in the bellbottoms.
if someone thinks i'm wrong or right, let me know.
would you like me to go ahead and upload these to photobucket to share?
btw, i once , in 1975, made the acquaintance of fan and photographer howard wallen (i wonder where he is now?) and he gave me (a now known) photograph of elvis sitting on a stool playing guitar taken that night, he said. howard was working for a newspaper at the time and was lucky to be able to jump at the chance to be at elvis' opening night. howard seems to have sat stage edge.

This would have been a huge social event, IMO.
I'd bet someone has pictures and even some film .

As with MSG...if anything was shot during such a pivotal moment as this in Elvis's career, it would have surfaced way before now.

Aw, Tony--
Believe what you want . It just makes no sense there are none.
Of course, you're not as old as I am; ;) but ,believe me--
This would have been a huge, social occasion at the time, with lots of VIP's . Maybe, you'll live to see some come out.
I've found that some people do not like to reveal everything--until and if they choose to. .
One should never state anything so positive IMO.
It just irritates the optimistic and you might end up with "egg on your face ". :)
Life is not all about "making money."

Agree with you.....as we all know with the MSG pictures, thought we had them all then hundreds are found.....it may simply be a case that whoever took the pictures has done the same thing and they are just waiting to be found again

That link was great. I do believe all the pics on my computer are on that web page.

The pictures of the red/black belt are the ones I have dated as 7/31/69

Well Tony my friend that would seem logical, but how many things connected to Elvis (directly and indirectly) have been illogical? How many things in life are done illogically in general?
I know for years many said there was nothing left of the TTWII and EOT outtakes-lost destroyed, never kept etc... then Elvis "The Lost Performances" comes out in the early 90s and again it was said,
"thats all there folks, all that was saved"
Now look at the stream of outtakes which continues to pore out (something like 30 or 40 hours combined for the 2 movies)
As far as MSG I have shown the clips which are 16mm and clear as a bell- about 15 minutes worth shot by Jonas Mekas http://www.jonasmekas.com/-a professional award winning filmmaker his specialty is short films- he edited down the footage he shot to make an award winning short "Mozart and Elvis". Also the clips (which I have posted links to) attributted to NBC (or ABC depending on who you believe) which I saw used in ABC's 20/20 segments in the 80's and 90's which are different from the Mekas footage some shot from the left center and some from stage right. So whether they are commishoned by Parker or Elvis as official filming , or was piped to luxury boxes at MSG (and filmed) it makes no difference to me. I consider it pro shot footage-how much is there is the question.

If you are really interested in that Las Vegas season maybe you should do a little research on the fine concert sites www.elvisconcerts.com (http://www.elvisconcerts.com) or www.elviscrawler.com (http://www.elviscrawler.com).
This Engagement isn't very well documented so its hard to find specific dates for certain photo's etc.

You would think maybe Elvis would have wanted one of his guys to tape the show with a video camera or something so he could watch it after the show and see how he looked and how it went etc, like he did when he watched the 68 Special air !

i couldnt agree more, it seems so bizarre! surely there must have been something recorded, it was the most important event of his carrear! and he was incredibly nervous about it... so to not want to hear how the show sounded is odd. and what an occasion to record a cd or footage, with all the celebs that attended!?????? i stiill believe something is in private hands! many will ridicule me, as it was a long time ago. I guess I'm one of the unlucky ones- I do not have 30-40 hours of outtakes.
I have seen the clips all over the net and heard of the hours available-but would hope someday they will "officially" get some release thru Warners Video.(not holding my breath)
Also I have noticed that at first the outtakes were very rough looking and sounding- not complete. Now that they have been out a few years and people have been working on them with home computer editing, brightening the colors, improving the sound dubbing- those same outtakes are 100% improved. So I think I will wait a little longer to see how well they do with "home improvements";).

If only MGM would release all the footage they have from TTWII taping, then we would have all the of the footage in prestine quality....give it time, once the milk runs dry on everything else, we will get TTWII and EOT I'm sure..and probably EIC too, and thats a big maybe though on the last one :lmfao:
