Maybe I'm being naive, but whilst going on my sons computer I noticed some unsuitable websites on his internet history. He said he hadn't looked at the sites and maybe they came from his spam from his email account.Could this be true.He doesn't usually lie? So at the moment I'm trusting him.

You can block those accounts so he nor anyone on his computer can see them.
It's what I'd do.It's what my son-in-law did with one of his boys. ;)

yeah I unblocked the parental controls because he said it wouldn't let him play some online games he liked to play (football etc). But do you think its possible that these sites can automatically go onto his internet history or is he growing up quicker than I think?? Many thanks for any replys

:hmm: Well, we thought it was the son of my new son-in-law,
We found out later, it was his sister and she's only 11 !! .:P
Kids do grow up faster than we'd like. It would have to be up to you.
All I can say is it was never on my computer until they used it.
Since then, their dad got them their own computers --after I raised a little hell. ;)
I go all over this Internet and I've never picked up any of that stuff.

In order to get in his internet history he must have clicked on the link the spam provided or had been re-directed there by another website. Some virus open unwanted sites when you try to open your browser too. Someone here sure knows more about this than me but I think there´s no way you can have sites in your internet history without having visited them in one way or another...

You could use the parental control.... there are good packages for families. Norton (http://www.symantec.com/norton/familyresources/index.jsp) (symantec), McAfee (http://us.mcafee.com/root/landingpages/affLandPage.asp?affid=0&lpname=14451&cid=43563) and Microsoft (https://fss.live.com/Default.aspx?mkt=en) offer the most wellknown suites

He's, presumably, a teen boy.

1. OF COURSE he is looking at unsuitable sites, eg porn. They only show in the internet history if the user has clicked on them directly, or via spam emails.

2. OF COURSE he will lie to you about what he has been viewing.

If you're that perturbed (and don't be - looking at porn is perfectly normal for young guys given the chance) then remove the PC from his room and place it in a common area in your house.

I find a few porn sites in our history - rare, but only because, our computer is in the den and everyone can look over your shoulder. Plus, I've coded it and it goes off at 11 pm and no one can log on until I open it in the morning. On a rare occasion a pop-up will appear, but we've installed a good blocker! And apparently right now, your child is a little more naive than you think you are, otherwise he'd be smart enough to delete the history before you can check it!
Don't forget to check out your child's friends if he goes to MySpace or Facebook. Just type in their names and do a search. You'd be amazed at what kids put in their pages!

Sorry to say your boy is most likely looking at them porn sites as much of teenage boys do. Better get them sites blocked ASAP ;)

software is not a substitute for being on the computer with your kid, much like parents used to watch tv with their kids

now, I don't know you, I don't know what the site was - and this is why I have dogs and not kids, because the dogs don't use my computer

but, since you've asked, things only go in history if you go to the website

the issue is more communication about why he went to the site, and why it's better to not go there

than him learning how to delete history or go to those site at computers that you can't check on - at friends houses, or internet cafes
