Who started to use Also Sprach Zarathustra as an opener to their show first?
Was it Elvis or Ric Flair?
When did Elvis start with this theme for the first time?

According to wikipedia Rick made his wrestling debute in 1972. So Elvis used the theme prior to Rick.

I can't remember when Ric Flair used Also Sprch Zarathustra for the first time on the WWE or previous wrestling WWF. I thought Ric started using this theme when he returned to singles wrestling.

Elvis presley liked This Richard Strauss Tone Poem (composed in 1896) inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche's book Also sprach Zarathustra cause certainly 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey.
He Asked to play A lot In Middle Show In January/February 1971.

It does sound like a piece from the 19th century, which I suppose may be wrong for some people. Even some angry guy with a small mustache (born in Austria, later on active in Germany) could have enjoyed it.

But there's no need to mention the war since we're all on the market now, old differences settled, everything forgiven and forgotten.

I think Elvis first used it in 1971, around that time he used to close some shows with "the Impossible Dream", I think.

Yeah, he started to use it in January 1971. Joe Guercio and his wife, Corky watched 2001: A Space Oddyssey and Corky said half-jokingly that the apocaliptic tune reminded her to Elvis. Surprisingly Joe agreed and they played it for Elvis who just loved it and they started to experiment with it to bring Elvis onstage or sometimes in the middle of the show just to try it on the audience. They reacted so wild that they kept it. Then when Ronnie Tutt's thunderous drum intro took over, it was the ultimate orgasm and that's how Elvis reacted to it too. From then on it was his signature stage intro. Great!!! Thanks Corky!!! (y)

So he started in 1971 ?

I looked on Elvis-in-concert and found last tour 1970, and also in 1971.

I quoted from Peter Guralnick's book: Careless Love. The "ultimate orgasm" was a quote from Joe Guercio referring to the opening riff after 2001. ;)

No, it can be confirmed as being used on January 27, 1971 MS. It was used as the intro. Elvis later used it in the middle - and towards the end - of some of the shows in this engagement, but not all. Unfortunately, records are patchy.

It may have been used on the January 26 OS and January 27 DS, but only a few songs from the 26OS have surfaced and none from 27DS.

After this engagement, Also Sprach Zarathustra (its correct title) was used as the opener to every show, beginning in Vegas August 9, 1971 OS all the way through to Indianapolis June 26, 1977.

I never seen the movie 2001 a space oddysey.

Despite what many critics say, it is pretentious and incomprehensible - like a lot of director Stanley Kubrick's work. But he can't be blamed - the novel is brilliant, but quite unfilmable.

Thank you Getlo for that information!
