Parents from Stockholm are not allowed to name their daugther Elvis. The mother has filed a complained against the Swedisch governement. 'We have chosen the name Elvis because it's a neutral name that can be used for a boy and a girl'. 'We are no Elvisfans at all, it's just a nice name'. The governement thinks that it is not a neutral name, considering the link with Elvis Presley and they decided that it can not be used for a girl.

Fair enough, too.
Elvis is a boy's name, no question about it.
Any government should intervene when parents want to name their kids something stupid ... like Apple.

Yep. I wouldn't have liked to be named Elvis at all. It is a boy's name after all.
Apple - sounds like a hippie name :D

Pretty silly IMO. Why should any government be able to tell you what you can or cannot name your child?

Sometimes you might have to break the mould...like in the song "A boy named Sue"........Pa knew he wouldn`t be around to help raise him up...so he gave him that name to toughen him up........There is wisdom to be found in music my friends...great,profound lumps of it.

Have to agree with you here.
Definitley that is something that should be the parents decision as it is their child they should have the right to name it whatever they desire.
JMO!;)

There are several names that could be either . Morgan, Frances and many more. It is our society that makes it either a boys or girls name. IMO, it just shouldn't matter one way or another .

Totally agree with you there... Elvis is a boy's name, not allowing those people to name their daughter "Elvis" was IMO the complete right decision (y)
Anyway, I wouldn't want to name a child Elvis, even if it is a boy. There is only one Elvis:D Just my opinion;)

Actually, Frances with an 'e' is female, but spelled with an 'i' that makes it male ;)

I guess both things are pretty silly. I wouldn't name my child Elvis, boy or girl. But, I wouldn't want the government telling me I couldn't either .;)

Let's not forget about SURI...;);)
Everyone could simplify things if they would just follow in George Foreman's footsteps. He had a house full of boys and he named them everyone GEORGE, with a number behind it.:lol:

Parents Fight To Call Baby Girl 'Elvis'
A Swedish couple have been banned by authorities from calling their baby girl 'Elvis', on the grounds that Elvis isn't a good name for a girl. The decision was made by Swedish tax authorities, with whom babies' names must be registered.
The couple decided to call their five-month old girl Elvis despite the fact that they don't own any of Elvis Presley's records, or even like him very much, The Local reports. The girl's mother, Linda, told the Swedish Metro newspaper: 'We talked about lots of names and then Elvis popped up. We thought it was a name that was both pretty and gender-neutral. We're not Elvis Presley fans at all.'
But the Skatteverket (the National Tax Board) disagreed about the whole 'gender-neutral' thing, saying in their report: 'It is the National Tax Board's view that Elvis is a first name of a masculine type and as such may, in light of standard practice, be considered clearly inappropriate as a first name for a woman.'
The parents plan to appeal the ruling.
There have been a number of run-ins between the Skatteverket and parents desiring an unusual name for their sprog. In 2007, one couple successfully appealed a ban on them naming their baby girl 'Metallica', and in 2004, a change in the law was proposed to help out a couple who wanted to call their son 'Superman'.

well i think its just wrong for the government to stop them from naming there own child i could see the point if it was something daft like apple, princess tiamii, peaches or pilot but i agree that elvis is more of a mans name i have never heard of girls being called elvis but if thats what they want then why stop them i'm sure the government have better things to be doing
