Not his song but he could have done it so much better than anyone else that has recorded it.

Love to have heard a live version of "Amazing Grace"......would have been great with all the backup singers.....A complete version though, with all the lyrics, not like the seriously shortened version that was done in the studio.....Now that would have all my hair standing on my head!

Why do we tend to ignore his 50's output, when lets face he reigned supreme and sang some phenomenal songs that only he could have sung,"Don't"comes to mind along with one of him at his "Bluesiest" the fantastic "I need you so"and the beautiful "Fountain of love" from Pot Luck.."It hurts me" is one of his finest recordings so much feeling.

Never ending
Ask Me
So glad your mine
Anyplace is paradise (Priceless)
One sided love affair
Treat me nice
I beg of you

I could go on, can you imagine what these songs would have sounded like with James & Co backing him on Stage in the 70's the mind boggles....Ricky

Thanks for the info guys!! (y) (y) :notworthy :notworthy Yes, maybe he sang them in concert, just footages weren't made about them, only sound recordings. I have just found "Love Letters" on YT!! Although the quality is not too good, but the sound is really great. Yes, he really sang it on stage, it was a concert from 1976. The date was December 29th and the place was Birmingham (it is the 2nd song):

Z2MNRoKNIJE

And yes, I have found some concert recordings from "Moody Blue" (there isn't moving footage I think), I really liked this one:

It may seem strange, but I have enjoyed some of these Latin-American tunes. A lot of this music testifies of a respectable culture, but are not too difficult to understand. A song like "Margarita" has this erotic tension to it, that suited him well. And I suppose it was all right for him to sing about ladies very often.

I would have recommended him to select songs for a larger audience and for a smaller but more intimate one. The larger audience just wouldn't know what to make out of his more intricate artistic possibilities.

Jack Greene a country artist of the 50s and 60s had a country hit with it back then and Ricky Van Shelton had a hit fairly recently with it also.

The reason for that was not that he didn't sound so good, most of them were performed in a medley format on stage and at a very fast tempo All Shook Up comes to mind hence losing quality..If you were not around in the 50's it is very hard to explain the phenomenom that was Elvis and after all he was known as the King of Rock & Roll and there certainly was not a lot of Rock & Roll around in the 60's & 70's in its original guise!!

Faded Love
It's Only Love
Blue Eyes Crying In the Rain
Raised On Rock
Long Black Limousine

The ONLY thing I can say I was truly disappointed with that has anything to do with Elvis is his choice of songs to do live from 73-77.

I guess I should rephrase, I love mostly everything Elvis did live I just think that he had a lot of great material that would have sounded great live. It seemed at times he would try something out in those years in Vegas and then go back to more comfortable and known material. I heard rumors of him not caring in those years what he did on stage because he was bored or high. I don't buy it, I think Elvis cared too much what he did and wanted to make sure people were happy with what they were hearing. Some of my favorite songs were done live in that era like It's Midnight, Trying to get to You, Lawdy Miss Clawdy (which I think was fantastic live, with the arrangement they did), T.R.O.U.B.L.E. Talk In Your Sleep, And I Love You So, and countless others. I just always wondered why he never did some of those great songs like We Can Make The Morning and Faded Love Live. He actually did Faded Love once in 73 I think but never did it again. :king:

The reason for him not adding new material to his live repitore in the later years was imo lack of interest. He was longer interested in live performances, and had on his mind how much longer can I run around in a jumpsuite and a cape and do this show that i'm doing, whats the next step for Elvis Presley....jmo of course ;)

It's Only Love i think he sung that live

"The reason for him not adding new material to his live repitore in the later years was imo lack of interest."

I think another factor was he wanted to please the fans, it's been covered here before about his new set list in 1974 not being well received by fans so he went back to his old set list. Have a look at the It's Midnight Cd from FTD. That's a good set list.

How about

Loving Arms
The Sound Of Your Cry
Change Of Habit
It Hurts Me
Fool
Its Only Love
Always On My Mind
Seperate Ways
It's Easy For You
Way Down
Long Black Limousine
Moody Blue (I know he sang it ONE time 2-21-77 ;) )
Susan When She Tried
I Can Help

He did perform some of these songs live,(the ones in red, feel free to correct me if my memory fails me.lol), but they would always switch back to the set list with mostly hits cause they noticed the crowd wasn't responsive to the newer material. How sad is that? Then again, even though I enjoy songs like, "Fairytales and If You Love Me Let Me Know", I feel that songs like, "Susan When She Tried", and ,"Change Of Habit", would've been better. I spoke to someone who saw him live in 1975 and she said, we didn't go to see what songs he did, we went to see a legend, we knew it was a once in lifetime thing". She describe it as if he were a Comet that comes around only once in while.
But Elvis had a very out of the ordinary taste in music. He'd remake songs that most people forgotten ever were written.

Statue Of A Fool is Jack Greene's song. Ricky Van Shelton did it in the 80's and had a hit with it too. Elvis would have done the definitive version had he sang it. It's perfect for him. I also wish he had done the Waylon song "We Had It All". He started to do it at Stax but stopped because he was afraid it would make people think he was singing about Priscilla. Again perfect song for him.
