I voted for King Creole. Just a good story and soundtrack. The remastered King Creole CD is brilliant.

I go for King Creole too... I love the black&white, it gives a especial touch to that drama story. Great music and nice Elvis' acting there. I also know that film was his favorite one.

I went for "Jailhouse Rock" he played the first quintessential spoiled pampered rock star to a tee. "King Creole" is also a good movie with Walter Matthau, Dean Jaggar, Carolyn Jones, & Vic Morrow adding great support in character roles.

It was hard to choose just one because I really like King Creole, but I picked Loving You because it was nice to see Gladys and Vernon in it, even though a very small part in the audience and because I love Elvis singing Let Me Be Your Teddy Bear (y)

* Love Me Tender: no, it's a western which is not my cup of tea
* Loving You: yes, it's fresh, good songs and basicly Elvis' own story
* Jailhouse Rock: no, good story, fantastic songs, but ELvis personage is just a horrible person. I cannot have any sympathy for his role
* King Creole: one of his best movies storywhise with great songs. But Elvis' acting talent was not really suited for that kind of role (although he did good).

SO my choice would go to Loving You

Can't say I quite agree with you Albert.Having done a bit of acting myself (Telling Mom I was too sick to go to school, tell the boss it wasn't my fault, etc)
You have to play the part,as Elvis often did.

"Love Me Tender":I read a long time ago that first timers like Elvis were nearly always put in westerns because there were very little acting skills required,e.g: ride a horse, shoot a gun, kiss a girl, look nasty, and then tie up the horse. The only acting would be if you had to kiss the horse and tie up the girl!

"Loving You": Great movie!!But as you said Elvis playing Elvis really.

"Jailhouse Rock":YEAH! This was more like it.A real meaty role. You say you had no sympathy for the role Elvis played.Well,I think that was the whole idea.Elvis must have been doing it right for you to feel this way.Anyway Hollywood saved the day and made him a nice guy in the end.

"King Creole":I don't know about this one.I get the feeling that the character was softened in a way.The old Hollywood tradition - a hood with a heart of gold.
I really have mixed feelings having read the book "A Stone For Danny Fisher"

I do think some of his best acting was in the '60's movies.I mean,if he hated them as much as he said he sure didn't show it.NOW THAT'S ACTING!! :smoke:

well i like jailhouse rock it has some great songs and a good story line but i have to go with king creole the story line dragged you in and the songs were fantastic and they fit the story well and i think the later movies were not that good i find it hard to watch some of them change of habit was great story line and one or two good songs it it showed elvis in a different role so it gets my vote for the later movies as for loving you its a good family movie with yet more good songs was not too keen on love me tender

They all have merit, particularly the latter three, but I voted for King Creole which had the best script, acting and atmosphere

I see your points Albert..but I kinda liked that mean attitude he had in jailhouse rock..definitley was something different.

But I just watched the King Creole the other day for the very first itme and thought that he did an awesome job in that one the script was definitley great its such a shame it went from roles like that to singing old mcdonald.

That's a hard one. I actually STILL haven't seen 'King Creole' (yeah, I know), so my vote is for 'Loving You', with 'Jailhouse Rock a very close second.

I think King Creole was a better film, and IMO though widely debated here at times I do think Elvis acted well in that one. I voted for Loving you though, because I enjoy the way that in that one, when he's preforming (and being a singer there is actually a real reason to be singing), he's as close to what you'd have seen if you seen Elvis on stage in the 50s as is available in his films.

King Creole................
Stylish, atmospheric, raw talent, and does the sound of Elvis singing "Crawfish" not make a chill run down your spine ?.....

I couldn't vote for just one. To me, three of them have merit in their own way. Loving You was lighter and enjoyable, Jailhouse Rock had some really good scenes, I think his best acting was in King Creole and I loved the songs from that movie.
