PC freezes when i convert audio formats ?

My pc has started to freeze up when i try to convert my audio to different formats (n) i tried diff apps but most do it now, especially if i leave the pc and do something else... seems worse when it idles :'( any ideas on this ?

Yep tried that Ron .... got a feelin my screen saver is freezing up first, then the pc ...
