I can say the only boxset I have in my collection is the "From Nashville To Memphis" the 1960's Boxset.

So before I plan on getting anymore Imports I'm working on getting all of the boxsets that have been relesaed officially (RCA/BMG).

So today from Amazon I just ordered three more which I consider to be essential to any fan's collection !

Platinum: A Life in Music
The King of Rock 'n' Roll: The Complete 50's Masters
Walk a Mile in My Shoes: The Essential 70's Masters

Hope to have these three wonderful set's by next Wednesday. Man the excitement of hunting down these original CD's ! :D

The most alternatives in perfect quality are on Platinum for sure.

The fifties set is awesome! Not many new songs, but this first set, it set the standard for more to come, including the Sixties and Seventies boxset.

Recieved the The King of Rock 'n' Roll: The Complete 50's Masters today ! (y)(y)

Must say it's superb to have all the available songs recorded by Elvis in the studio from the 50's all in one boxset ! The booklet is just as cool with some really stunning photographs !:D

I have Platinum and the 70's. I love them! I want to get the 50's boxset, for sure, haven't made up my mind about the 60's boxset. I'll have to go to the FTD forum and research that one. Enjoy, Col. Jon :D

Well first, the 1960s set From Nashville To Memphis isn't an FTD release. But I would defnititley consider it an essential set to any fan's collection. It was the very first boxset I purchased!:notworthy

All the studio material from the 1960's minus the movie soundtracks, makes for an excellent set. And disc 5 is really great to with alternate takes from the January 1969 Sessions at American Studio!

Platinum and the Walk A Mile In My Shoes set's are on their way to me right now really excited !:D(y)

yeah, Platinum is a fantastic boxset. I had the 50's Masters and Walk a Mile in My Shoes, but sold those. They offered me too many masters (duhhh) and too little alternate versions. Those boxsets are great if you own few original albums from 50s and 70s.

But still, great boxsets to have (y)

The 50s, 60s & 70s boxsets are essential..... along with Today, Tomorrow
and Forever and Up Close boxsets, plus the TTWII 3 Disc Special Edition,
Amazing Grace and all 10 movie Double Features. So all those plus maybe
the Aloha Concert, Memories (68 Special) and the FTD releases the Jungle Room
and Rehersal and you got yourself quite a collection (y)

Even though most of the songs have been released on countless CD's over the years, I agree that the music contained on the 50's, 60's & 70's boxsets are STILL essential in any Elvis fans collection!!! Of course, the fact that you can get so much music in one box set for a price that is much less than chasing down all of those individual CD's is certainly a nice bonus as well!! (y)

However, of all the more recent boxsets that have been released over the past few years, I have to say that PLATINUM and TODAY, TOMORROW & FOREVER are the 2 boxsets that should be on EVERY Elvis fans CD shelf! The outtakes that both of these sets contain are just terrific and I personally play both of these sets quite often...just FANTASTIC music!!! :D

Thanks for the review Mike. I wonder if the new 1968 Comeback Special Boxset will become an essential to have. I think so......

I would say most definitely, if for no other reason, than just because this is such a critical part of Elvis' entire career. :hmm:

Just want to add something to this debate about the boxsets -

1. The Collectors Gold Boxset is very good, but now quite an old release :hmm:

2. The 50s, 60s and 70s are the best boxsets I have ever purchased
hands down (from any musician/s, and that says a lot cause I have a lot
other boxsets from Sandy Denny to the Mamas and Papas) (y)

3. The Todays Tomorrow Forever and Up Close boxsets are not that
essential really. Don't get me wrong they contain good music .....
I actually prefer the Up Close one out of the two ;)

4. The 68 comeback special one is not that essential really IMO ..
pick up the cd/album 'Memories' and I feel thats better value for money. :king:

Exactly Mike and to have all the music in one set is well enough reason to get it atleast imo anyways.
