How did they manage to make Elvis look as if he started Johnny Cash on drugs in the film when he cleary states he never saw Elvis taking pills during the 50īs?
A quote from his auobiography :
"He was very sensitive, easily hurt by the stories people told about him being on dope. I myself couldnīt undrestand why they wanted to say that back in the 50īs, because in those days he was the last person on earth who needed dope. He had such high energy level that it seemed he never stopped. Either way, he wasnīt, or at least i never saw him use any kind of drug, or even alcohol, he was always clear-headed around me, and very pleasant. Elvis was so charismatic- he had it all - that some people just couldnīt handle it and reacted with jealously."
Why would they want to blame someone for Cash addiction if he himself never blamed anyone but him and wasnīt afraid to talk about it and about what it did to him?
THAT is giving Elvis a bad image IMO.

Walk The Line, while overall is a good film, does have a few historical inaccuracies.
The biggest being the portrayal of Elvis as a young drug user that pushes his habit on Johnny Cash.
I believe that it's been clearly recorded that Elvis did not begin partaking to pills until his days in the army, which in real life, were 3-4 years after the time period represented in the film.
This is another reason why there needs to be a more "authentic" film made that delivers an accurate account of Elvis' life from birth all the way through to 1977, including all the relative points to his life, both pro and con.

I remember seeing Walk the Line when it first came out and that scene just jumped out at me for being so inaccurate. Plus it helps the casual observer to keep believing that Elvis was some sort of junkie all of his life. That movie was widely acclaimed, so as I said it helped solidify people's opinions about Elvis.(n)(n)

You are right on the money Rosie! (y)(y) It seems that sensationalism sells, huh??? Even at the expense of someone who is no longer here to set the record straight! Wait a minute...I guess that is why this junk happens...because Elvis CANNOT speak for himself!(n)
Well I guess in the movie business they call it "Creative license"- where by they can make a "true story" and add or subtract from that story with "creative license" to move the story along for a better more entertaining movie.
Thats pretty close to the comment I heard a producer on Entertainment Tonight say years ago. ;)

If you are going to complain because I made a mistake in the title of the thread, yes you can because I noticed it too ;) For the rest I donīt think I broke any rule...

I know what you mean KPM but one thing is making Elvis seem he started with pills 2 or 3 years before and another thing is portraying him as if he was guilty of Johnny Cash starting to take pills and it makes less sense when you read the quote where Cash says he never saw Elvis taking any pill...

I didn't even notice any mistake . I meant about portraying Elvis as starting JC on drugs. But, I already wrote to the studio to complain about that when it was first released. . IMO, you did just fine . (y)

Unfortunatelly such 'creative licensed true stories' help to add fuel to the
fire. When I saw the movie I first thought it was true and that I had been telling
people nothing but nonsense whenever I was trying to tell the 'complete story'.
As a fan I checked back, but the general public believes it blindly, it even confirms
the drug stories they already knew about Elvis.

You're kidding, right?
No, but it doesn't stop me from complaining.
I emailed Graceland a month ago and I've still not gotten an answer.
They used to answer right away. Must be some of those uneducated tour guides you all ran into, doing double duty! ;)

Let it be Cameron, maybe this is not so important as saying you have put weight on before confirming you are pregnant or accused of having slept with someone before your first husband ;)
As you can probably tell ; I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut when something is put out to the public that isn't true. :P
As MsClawdy says; she thought she was wrong. All because it was in a movie for the public. In my experience, "the public" will never take time to correct a mistake, but accept it as "gospel." That drives me crazy.

All of the above is true.
I think however that the average viewer has forgotten Elvis' (who does not even look like our man!) tiny part in this movie when it has ended.
And that the Cash fan will know the true story about their hero.

A lot of things about that movie didn`t impress me....the Elvis drug connection included.......guess they were looking to add a bit of danger to the proceedings.....and who better than Elvis to be the Rock`n`Roll bad guy at the time...sad but true......It probably wouldn`t have been as convincing if they`d blamed Buddy Holly.

Mever thought about like that. Yes, I guess Elvis is an easy scapegoat since he was viewed as a rebellous dangerous person. Buddy Holly was as nice as the boy next door and parents didn't think that Holly would hurt their children......lol:'(:'(:'(

 We feel sure that at least one quit. Hearing that the body was in the house and that a chimpanzee had run around looking up girl's dresses was a bit too much for her I'm afraid.:lmfao::lmfao: Or as Gail says....that guide called up EPE and said "Ya'll didn't tell me nothin' bout dead bodies and monkeys running loose"...:lol:

There is alittle bit about the drugs, but nothing about elvis doing pills or giving them to johnny.

Well many of us here have read the books and quotes by Cash and know more than the the average person on Elvis and Johnny. But for many its not something they know or have an inkling about-so the creative license in this case was just to juice up the story.
Johnny had a very eventful life interesting life and why they felt the need to add this false idea into it is beyond me. When my daughter saw this movie she told me "I never knew Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Elvis toured together" I told her Johnny Cash toured with Elvis but not Jerry Lee. She said "I thought the movie showed they toured together?"
I told her if it did it was wrong. I also told her I had never heard of Elvis giving any drugs to Cash and that Cash himself never claimed that. She would have believed it- if she had not asked me about it.

This is where EPE has to step in and dispute this untrue nonsense. We fans can complain all we want, but EPE should have done something, via the news media. You can bet if somehow it effected their rubber duck sales or something like that, they would have taken action!

That's what my older grandson noticed too.
He "showed me" that EP gave JC drugs .
That's when I decided to contact the studio and complain.
{I know, it's all over & they made money } I still got a little off my chest.

This one part in Walk the Line is the main reason why I wished so hard that Elvis wrote an autobiography.

I liked the movie Walk The Line (mainly because of Joequin) but was furious at who they chose to play Elvis, he was way to tall and made out to be dorky but they had Johnny all rough, tough and cool acting. The way they had Elvis singing was appauling and they made him look like he was a brown nose to Johnny Cash. I couldn't believe the scene with the drugs either, I mean that was so unecessary to do at the expense of Elvis. I felt the people in on the movie were purposely using Elvis to make Johnny look cooler and was very sad about that.
