Elvis got into rollerskating in 1958 and rented out the Rainbow Roller Skate Rink at 2881 Lamar Avenue in Memphis. Owners Joe and Doris Pieraccini rented the rink for $35 a night, including skates, food and drinks. Many of Elvis' biggest and best parties happened at this rink and fans fought to get in.
One night a girl from out of town was invited to one of the parties and she was driven to her hotel by Elvis and his escorts at the end of the night. She soon discovered that her purse was missing: it contained $50 for her train ticket back home. Elvis and his men returned to the skating rink to look for her purse but could not find it. Someone must have stolen it.
Elvis could not believe that such a thing could happen at one of his parties. He repaid the girl and gave her an extra five dollars for another pocketbook. Grateful, the girl gave Elvis a hug and kiss and told him that she had just had the most enjoyable evening of her life. When she returned home, she sent him a Thank-you note and told him she loved him for his big heart.

Aww, wonderful thread Kimmi
During a concert in Louisiana a small girl reached out for scarf, but it was plucked away by an unruly fan. Elvis became very perturbed and asked the security guards to put the child on stage. Looking down at her, he took off a very expensive, jewel encrusted necklace and placed it around her neck. "This is for you, honey, and nobody can take it from you." The little girl was, of course, overwhelmed, but Elvis gave firm instructions to security. "Make sure that she is safe with that. It's hers and I want her to have it."
Of course, she was in no trouble after his instructions. The story was legendary, but years later the little girl was all grown up. She wanted to go to college, but since she wasn't from a well-to-do family, that dream was almost out of reach. Elvis had passed away and the girl and her family decided to sell the necklace to pay for college.
According to press reports, she didn't want to part with it, but she felt she had no choice. She hoped that Elvis would have approved of her motive for selling the beautiful gift. The jewelry was sold for a fabulous price, enabling her to get an education. Surely Elvis would have approved!

Hi Kimmi :)
I'm glad you enjoyed the story. I love stories about his generosity and giving heart. Because his kindness is so over looked by many, many prefer the big flashy scandalous lies that can be read at an everyday cheap tabloid, but we - Elvis fans know better than that

I've read a story somewhere about two girls who were sisters and Elvis' friends and they often hanged out in Graceland. They weren't very pretty, but Elvis loved their company. They were very poor and their father was very sick and they needed money for an operation. Elvis heard the story and gave them a check with the money needed. After the operation they went back in Graceland and said that they wanted to see Elvis. When Elvis came down from his room they gave him an envelope with a 5 Dollar check in it. Tears streamed down his face and when they asked him why he was crying he said that that was the first time someone ever tried to give something back to him :'(

Great stories girls!!! (y) This is a good thread Kimmi...it's nice to see the positive side of him. So much is laden with negative's about his life, when in all fairness, he was probably one of, if not THE most generous of the rich and famous. He was awesome...:king:;)

You are welcome, and yes, awesome is the word!
Here is another one:
As Told By..... SAM THOMPSON - One time my sister Linda, my wife Louise, and I had been down with Elvis to see the old Circle G Ranch in Mississippi and were on our way back to Memphis in Elvis' Stutz Bearcat. We passed a little black boy, maybe ten or eleven years old, by the side of Highway 51. It was summer; it was hot - dust in the air. The kid was caked in dust, sitting at a little watermelon stand. We had the entourage, about four or five vehicles, and Elvis was in the lead. {As we go by} Elvis pulls over. Of course, everybody pulls over after him. Everybody jumps out - Red and everybody. They're looking around. This is in the middle of nowhere. This little kid - I'll never forget his face. I know he knew who Elvis was, but he wasn't gonna let Elvis know that he knew. He was a businessman, this kid. He sat there and waited for Elvis to walk up. Elvis had to initiate the conversation, "How much are the watermelons ?" A price was established. The kid was real tough and he wouldn't come off the price. So finally Elvis just turned around and said, "We'll take the whole stand. Pay him". That's the only time the kid's visage cracked. Elvis took one watermelon, the choice one, and put it in the back of the car. Off we drove and left the entourage down there to settle up. Elvis bought the whole watermelon stand, bought all those watermelons, and took them back to Memphis.

For a man in his position, he was extremely thoughtful. My favorite story, is when he was reading the paper and seen an article about a poor, elderly black woman who couldn't afford a wheelchair. Anyway, Elvis, Priscilla and a couple of the guys, purchased her a beautiful wheelchair and delivered it to her house. Elvis himself picked up the woman (who had no legs) placed her in her new wheelchair, all the while tears were streaming down his face. That's the kind of man Elvis Presley was!

"Most of Elvis' philanthropic endeavors received no publicity at all.
Throughout his adult life, for friends, for family, and for total
strangers, he quietly paid hospital bills, bought homes, supported
families, paid off debts, and much more. Elvis' legacy of generosity continues through the work of the Elvis
Presley Charitable Foundation, which is the philanthropic branch of Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. and the creator of the Elvis Presley
Endowed Scholarship Fund at the University of Memphis. The tradition
of giving also continues through the work of the Elvis fan clubs
worldwide, most of which are heavily involved in charitable endeavors
in Elvis' memory. "
"Everyone, including myself was touched by Elvis' spirit, I was, and
always will be a fan". Bryan Ferry
James Brown: "I wasn't just a fan, I was his brother. He said I was
good and I said he was good; we never argued about that. Elvis was a
hard worker, dedicated, and God loved him. Last time I saw him was at
Graceland. We sang 'Old Blind Barnabus' together, a gospel song. I
love him and hope to see him in heaven. There'll never be another like
that soul brother."

elvis is still making stories.................
Jon Douglas , the sculptor, became paralysed in his hands( he was asked to make a statue of elvis by elvisly yours)just two weeks before the statue was complete. It was finished with help of his sons and everone at elvisly yours, Jon instructed whilst everyone helped and just the night before the unveiling the statue was in eight parts yet to be put together, cleaned , polished and somehow everyone worked all night and a miracle happend and it was finished.there were so many fans wanting to be present for unveiling. Suddenly there was a call from Paul Jardine to say that the statue had beenin an accident. A car had jumped the lights and the truck carrying the statue and fans had to brake sharply.Several people were badly hurt and had to get hospital treatment. The only damage to the statue was that the microphone was completely went back. Some years later Billy Stanley, was to tell that practically evry show elvis had problems with his microphone , if you watch " that's the way it is " you can see elvis toss one microphone after the other aside as he finds problems with them.
A chill went down my back as I related it with this tory.

In the first months of 1960, Elvis Presley did his best to keep up with his army duties and still handle the tons of fan mail he received. Stationed in West Germany, one day he received a letter from an 11-year-old German girl. It was her birthday, and Karen Golz asked Elvis to send her an autograph for the occasion.
Elvis dutifully sat down and wrote this sweet note:
Dear Karen,
may you have a very happy birthday - and lots of Teddy Bears.
Your friend,
Elvis
He gave the letter to a woman friend and asked her to mail it for him. Apparently, she never did. Flash forward to 1999: the woman died this year and, when relatives went through her effects, they found Elvis' letter still sealed and unmailed. So they dropped it in a mail box.
Thirty-nine years later, Karen Golz, now 50 years old, finally received Elvis' birthday wishes. It might have taken a long time to get his letter, but she thinks it was well worth the wait!

His music attracted me but; it was his thoughtfulness and caring about others that kept me a fan.
Nice balm for the ones weary of negatives . :)
Thank you for this wonderful thread. Elvis' had so many positive attributes.... far more than most people in general. Why so many people like to focus on his very few shortcomings is beyond me. After all, he was just a mere mortal, he wasn't diety.
I don't know of anyone else that could of walked in Elvis shoes and handled it as well as he did. Look how today's celebrities end up. There is no comparison with Elvis. He always handled himself in a respectable manor in public, his private life was not anybodies business. He had to let his hair down sometimes and let out his emotions or he would have exploded. His kindness and generosity is something that keeps all of us fans loyal to him even after almost 31 years. Keep these wonderful stories coming, I love them!

Exactly. It's been said many times, not many other celebrities could handle that kind of fame with as much class and dignity as Elvis. I also love the video clips where he's rushing through the backroom hallways to get on stage - and we know he tried to get backstage at the last possible moment so he didn't have to stand around and get really nervous - and if maids or cleaning crew stopped and asked for an autograph or photo, he'd stop and give it to them.
