Hi...:D... ok...I'm fairly new here  so, I apologize, if this has already been done before.
Ok, my question is : " If you could choose any movie role that you would have liked to see Elvis play the leading role in, which movie would it be ? " ( girls, if it helps, you can play Elvis' love interest in the movie....:P )
Thanks,
Luana. :)

The Texas terror hath read my mind!....Wuthering Heights.....An early `70s Elvis especially would have made a great Heathcliff. What about the Tim Robbins role in "The Shawshank Redemption"?

What an interesting idea....I just watched that again last night. Jude Law is pretty cute in that, sort of like a "Cary Grant" kind of way.:D:D

Remember the version from 71 with Timothy Dalton?? Elvis would gave been smokin' hot in that at that time. I always thought "Catherine" was nuts anyway. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that book!:notworthy:D

I have heard that the director for "Midnight Cowboy", directed by John Schlesinger, said his wish list for the Jon Voight role was Elvis. I would have loved to see Elvis take the chance on a role which would have certainly broken the mold for the characters everyone expected to see him play. Also I would hope that not one line nor situation was changed in the script to better suit Elvis. IF the director was truely willing to give the chance to Elvis-it would have been real chance to shake up his career and earn some acting respect.

Ya'll have some great ideas here! I just have to add, remember in Indiana Jones - when he's teaching class and the girl has written I love you on her eyelids? That segment had to have been written with Elvis in mind! And The Holiday - I would have loved to have seen Elvis in that- especially the scene where Graham has built the tent/playhouse for the daughters! That just screams AWWWWW!
How about Patrick Swayze's role in Ghost? I can't remember the character's name, but the pottery scene - talk about smokin' hot! Excuse me - I need a drink of water. . .or something

(I don't like Mickey Rourke either, as an actor, or from what I've observed, in person).
Julia Roberts part? lol, didn't she look wonderful, all dressed up after going into the Designer's Shop!? A feel good movie! :) Something about a spa? lol (Oh I haven't watched "Pretty Woman" for years either....:hmm:) :)

Two choices came to mind for me....;)
Bridges Of Madison County... I could see Elvis playing the cool, seductive, worldly, yet gentlemanly role that Clint Eastwood portrayed so wonderfully! One of my fav's...(y)
And as silly as this may sound... how about the lead role in My Best Friend's Wedding??? Can't you just imagine Elvis as the suave, almost naive character who has that little boy irresistability??? Mmmmm...I think he could def pull that one off! (y);):king:

Definitely Yes to Bridges of Mad. County but, [and don't shoot me] in My Best Friend's Wedding, he'd be such a perfect character actor for the gay best friend. I'm thinking more of his great sense of humor, of course, and him singing I'll Say a Little Prayer for You!

I know, I know, [hanging head in shame!] but I do believe that the gay guy had a better part. He was just so smart and so In-Your-Face sarcastically funny trying to make Julia understand how stupid she was being! Remember that line towards the end - "he's chasing her, you're chasing him, but darling Who's chasing You?"
Okay, scratch that, how about Elvis in The Guardian? Kevin Costner's role? We all know how great he looks in a wet suit! :D

I hate to be a party pooper but I will toss my two cents in.I dont think Elvis would have fared very well in the movies mentioned.Elvis showed varying degrees of acting ability during his career. He had some bright spots for sure in his dramatic roles and some good comedic vehicles that he excelled in.For the most part however when you watch Elvis on the screen you always know he's acting. His performances to me more often than not seemed somewhat forced and you could tell he was trying.A good actor loses himself in the role and becomes the character he's playing.Their performance is effortless. Many great films were mentioned here. One of the reasons these films have carved out a niche for themselves is due to the caliber of the actor's involved. If you could have replaced the leading actor with Elvis I think the films would have suffered sorry to say.Just my opinion.

Given his love of Clint Eastwood films...especially the "Dirty Harry" movies I think Elvis would have loved to have had an opportunity to try his hand at it....
also if anyone remembers the movie"Copland" with Stallone.....Don`t think it would have taken much persuading to get Elvis to do something like that.....a chance to play a cop..he`d have jumped at it!

Wish that I could disagree - you've made some exacting points. HOWEVER, in all fairness, was Elvis ever given a real shot at trying to perform? Did he ever get the impression that he was going to be taken seriously, and therefore should learn/perform/grow & work his backside off? I'd compare his first roles to those of any prime actor in their first roles. Very few actors had an unbelievable shot out of the cannon as far as First's in acting performance. George Clooney in "Roseanne"? C'mon, he wasn't winning Emmy's there. And Elvis knew from the very titles of his next movie what not to expect. The formula was established and he was rarely given the opportunity to shine. Even in those films where he would have gotten a chance, the scripts were carved to little more than fluff. Then, really, we fans must take the blame. We booed [well, not me, I was too young at the time to be a critic:lmfao:] when he 'dared' to make a film that wasn't happy and full of songs and women. Had a movie like Wild in the Country been given better box office money then maybe Kid Galahad could have been the forerunner to the Rocky movies.
There were a lot of factors to look at with Elvis' acting, but we're just having fun here and now then how about Elvis in Underseige? His karate would have certainly come in handy then.

Dont forget I said Elvis did shine in some of his films.I think the camera loved him.Particulary in something like TTWII where he was just being himself. That's where his persona just exploded off the screen.I just tend to think he probaably was limited when it came to acting ability.I dont think he ever could have been considered an "A" list actor.

I totally agree with you on the above...(y) And then that made me think a little...:supriced: :hmm::hmm: Elvis may not have ever gotten to the "A" list, but consider this: What if Elvis had been properly coached, or even better, had taken some serious acting classes??? Since the camera did tend to love him so , and the best filmed footage of him was when he was 'raw', it makes me tend to believe that it was primarily because he felt as ease doing what he was doing...performing! ;) That was something that he was familiar with, right??? I tell ya, I truly believe that had the right steps been taken, which would have given him more confidence...Elvis could possibly have exploded off the ol' movie screen too! ;)

I think youre right when you say he would have been a better actor if he had been managed better.Elvis benefited also when he was surrounded by a strong supporting cast.Something like King Creole or Flaming Star had Elvis in the company of some truly great actors.A good story didnt hurt either.I still tend to think that even in those good films Elvis' performance would be the weakest of the cast.Like I said I think you could always tell he was acting.Sometimes a strong performance by an actor can somewhat uplift even an average or poor film.I dont think Elvis was capable of that.Elvis made plenty of clunkers that show that I think. No matter what Elvis was a movie star and that counts for something.Overall though I wish he never would have made a film period and just concentrated on his music.

I liked Charro, though many disagreed at the time.

IMO, had he been encouraged and developed , he could have made better movies. Unfortunately, it was always about the money --not what was best for him. :(

I agree with you Jak..the camera absolutely adored him. I think after the 68 Special and/or the 69 Vegas comeback it would be near impossible to put him in any movie. I think by that time his gorgeous good looks and charisma were soooo HUGE that no matter the film...all the audience would see is Elvis. Does that make sense to anyone? It's almost as though he was too big to ever be anyone but......Elvis.:blink::blink:

I found your William Hurt scene, Roseanne, (plus some other good ones, lol) but I don't think I can post them, lol. I agree, it's a good scene.
Here is a montage of romantic scenes, for everyone:

I would love to see him in 'Oceans 11' not as a main part, but to have a part in it, as it's based in Vegas and Elvis was there for a long time, doing concerts..etc..

That would be fun (y) a running walk-on. Sighted many, many times, going onto stage, leaving stage, flirting with the dancers, yeah, I could see it!

I have always felt he had acting talent waiting to be tapped. So did many producers and directors who either offered parts or considered Elvis for roles in big "non Elvis" type movies. As I pointed he was considered for the role of Joe Buck in Midnight Cowboy thats a pretty tough role. Midnight Cowboy was nominated for many Oscars including best actor-someone thought Elvis could handle it. So I have to give some credance to their opinions since that is the business they are in.
In King Creole, Flaming Star, Jailhouse Rock, Loving You and a few others-I think he was challenged. IMO When he was challenged he gave good performances. When he had good direction-he gave good performances. Naturally even people with a natural ability to act- have to grow and learn. IMO I think he was no longer challenged after 1963. From 1963 on the movies were just the same formula with each year bringing a little less care about writing, production, and direction. After 1962-63 he was just fullfilling his contracts.
