It is beyond my mind's capablities of "getting " the tech of it...but thought it was interesting to see. If Elvis is looking down...I would sure like to know his thoughts on it :hmm:...especially Celine as his duet partner. :D

Has it been a year already? Time flys doesn't it.
But I still enjoy watching this, it never bores me. And how they did it? I don't care, I'm just glad they did it!

the best thing of it was Elvis being called the "Worlds greatest idol" at the start.... so true...

Must have been a big thrill for all US Elvis fans to see this clip live during the first broadcast. ONe of the best tributes to Elvis ever done.

I've heard a lot of people complained that it was "tacky".
I thought it was pretty cool.:)
I couldn't go, but a friend of mine from the UK sent us lots of pictures and they all loved it
Impressive and fit for a king. (y)

It really wouldn't have mattered who he sung with. Elvis would have out shone them as he did in this!!

It was fantastic. I think It's an excellent way for Elvis to be known by younger people.

I always am very doubtful about these "duets" like with the Christmas one as well.

But I have to say, it looks awesome.

And true, it connects Elvis to a new audience.

It is pretty cool, I loved the whole idea of a duet and they made it look so real,
but Celine...I'm not too keen on her, saw her in concert a few years ago and she's got an ego bigger than the sky, I think someone else would have done a better job. Still hoping that one day Lisa will do this type of duet with Elvis

Rosanne,

Do you have the link to the 9:00 minute video of how this was originally done?

And, FWIW, I think they could've just had Celine there with Elvis's original footage from the Comeback Special when his part/time came to sing.

Well it was great for Elvis to be seen by so many people who watch American Idol-and in one of his best performances.
The technology of today is just mind blowing for some of us who grew up with a small "lunch box sized record player" as the latest in technology!;)

Guess this means you don't!

Guess this means you don't!

It's okay

I feel the thing that makes the song is Elvis powerful vocal performance

If Elvis didn't give such a powerful performance or if another singer sang it the song wouldn't be as memorable

Most 60's protest songs or protest songs/peace songs in general can sound dated, and I feel this is what happened to If I can dream but Elvis powerhouse vocal makes the song better.

I think I would've used a different song for a duet between Elvis and Celine Dion but that's just me. I'd guess the reason they did choose to use the song was because they had great footage from the 68 special of Elvis performing it.

The reason I asked the question about the song is most people either like the song or they really don't and I wanted to know what everybody on tcb-world thinks of it.

I think "If I Can Dream" is a great song universal song. The theme of "hope" is not just relevant to the 1960s it is just as powerful today, IMO even more so. Problems of the 1950s and 60s seem tame compared to now.
Financial meltdown, terrorism which is now able to touch anywhere on the globe, lack of respect in society, lack of decency towards others, etc...
"If I Can Dream" addresses the worries of today, yesterday and tomorrow-it says, never give up hope, never give up on the dream of a better world.
