Is anyone going to buy this special issue from Billboard? Do you think it is worth to buy? Please tell me, because I'm not familiar with them.

I remember reading a similar story a short while back that mainly focused on the master tapes purchase and the briefcase o' cash. That's the part I remember of it anyway.

Sorry it's not the full story by Alanna Nash. Incidentally, she lives in my hometown. I've run into her two or three times, I guess. Nice lady.

Anoushka, I'll try to remember to pick up that issue. I'll let you know how it is, but I would say chances are this one will be worth getting.

:lmfao: Ernst aka 'the Columbo of rock'

"I couldn't understand how an artist could go from the absolute ridiculous to the bluesy character of 'Big Boss Man.' Underneath all the movie trash were, from time to time, wonderful recordings that seemed to come from a different planet and even from a different artist. But I was a fan of detective novels, and history was my favorite class in school, so I thought, 'I want to find out.'"

That's the power of Elvis and seperates him from all other artists. He was the ultimate chameleon of music. I can't come up with any other artist or band that has offered the fans a wider range of music and feelings.

Imagine todays world (for us, Elvisfans) when this moment never would have happened: "At one meeting," Jorgensen recalls, "I stood up and asked, ?Why are we treating the Elvis catalog so poorly?' The guy who had hired me, [late BMG International president] Rudi Gassner, looked at me coldly and said, 'Well, if you're so smart, why don't you do [something]?' And I said, 'Yep, thank you.'"

Really unbelievable how big things are so many times decided in small moments....

So true, Albert. So true.

That would be a nice tribute, Ron. I kinda like the guy too.

Just an idea for you ladies here. Pretend you don't know of his role with the Elvis catalogue, accidentally bump into him, flirt a little, make a date with him, have some drinks, and then ask him about his job. See if he doesn't decide to impress you by taking you on a tour of the vaults. Oh, and take your biggest purse. ;)

Elvis fans should not underestimate how crucial having Ernst at the helm of the Elvis Presley catalogue has been, the fact he cares so much about the subject matter is reflected in the treasure trove of quality CD releases in recent times.

I found both Ernst and Roger Semon came across very well in the FTD presentation(s) in Memphis and had some fascinating things to share (although I was unfortunately not there in person so I am thankful that these presentations were made available via the internet)

Ernst has done a fantastic job in working with the Elvis catalogue and he certainly deserves to hear from time to time that his work is very much appreciated.

You'll never know unless you try! I'll even bail you out of jail if you get caught--so long as you successfully hide at least one tape before your purse is confiscated. ;)

Oh, I probably shouldn't have made this public! :P

Like heck it is. While you two were sitting around, twiddling your thumbs, Carolyn PM'd me and said, "A little less conversation, a little more action," and we cut a deal. The heist went off without a hitch, and I've got a release planned in time for Christmas (which one of you artists can work fast and au gratis?) called Look Away, Jorgensen: Fresh From the Vaults, Vol. 1. The sad part is Carolyn broke ol' Ernst's heart, and so apparently his next FTD project is going to be something in the spirit of the Always On My Mind album (1985), with unheard outtakes from primarily the Stax and Jungle Room sessions. Leading off the CD will be "take 69" of Hurt.
