... tell us your story!

On another thread, there was some discussion as to whether or not there are Elvis relatives and friends here.

What Tommy said got me thinking. It's entirely possible.

So, if there are, please speak up! Share your stories ...

Getlo.

Well....personally I feel that Elvis was a very close,... intimate friend of mine.....he just didn't realize it.:laughing:

I have a brother named Elvis, a sister named Lisa (years before Lisa Marie was ever a glimpse in her daddy's eye), my father's name is Vernal.......oh and we did have a toy poodle named Priscilla...... :)

All of the Above is true - so although not related to the gorgeous one and only Elvis Presley - I am related "to an Elvis". ;):P:lol:

I have cousins called Elvis, Lisa Marie and Priscilla. And my aunt is called Gladys. All from the one side of the family.

And yes, I am serious.

I do wonder, though, if any actual relations are on here ... or are some just big-noting themselves?

Like I said, if you're in here people ... let's hear from you! (y)

It'd be great to hear from some folks with first hand info, and interact with them, but I suspect you won't get anyone to step forward , just because of how Negative it gets in here sometimes. Look at how much abuse his friends (the MM) and Family have taken in here . Who needs that?

Why in the world would anyone want to say anything?

You are what you make of yourself. No one can expect to live off a relatives name, IMO.

There's no shame in admitting any relative.
The shame is in the braggert , IMO.
No one can lay claim to having any control over who ones relatives are .
If you use that as a "claim to fame" then I have a problem.
I think too many have lived off Elvis for far too long.

I have an ex-sister in law who claimed she was related to Dee Stanley. She said when she was a girl she went to a family reunion and Dee and her boys were there-but no Vernon. I never really found out if it was true-and since I have very little respect for any of the Stanleys it really did not matter to me.

If you're not willing to tell us how you're related (or at least PM someone else on here with your real name and the connection to the family; someone whom I trust enough to value their opinion - utmom2008 or jak for instance) your story of a family connection is merely a figment of your imagination and a complete fairytale.

But, like always, you'll use the "I don't have to explain myself to you" approach.

You are no relation to Elvis in any way. You would have at least hinted at it earlier than this. Your ego wouldn't have allowed you to stay silent for so long. And it certainly would have been discovered before a decade ago if it were true.

Perhaps MissyM, an apparently genuine Smith relative, could back you up? ;)

Go down to post #6. Complaints have been posted prior to that about people making wild accusations and then refusing to back them up. You said....accept what someone tells you and then TOGETHER search for the truth of that statement. How can we search for anything together if you continue to play a cat and mouse game? If you want to make an extraordinary claim such as this...then it is only fair to provide some information. If not, then, good gosh...I guess we are ALL related to Elvis. I never intended to say a thing about myself here . This is an Elvis site. It's not about me or anyone else ,in spite of some that seem to think it was made for them . If I remember correctly there was a big thing about people bringing their personal life to a MB. I'm not going to do that; never have and never will. Why anyone should care is beyond me .People act no different {or shouldn't} if a relative is on a site.

IMO, that's how everyone should act if you're on a MB. We're all either related to him or we're his friends. {the ones that care about him} You all can talk to doomsday. As far as I know it's not a requirement to tell all your personal life and I don't intend to.

No one is a "big nothing". Everyone is important

In the 50's, 60's and 70's the place to eat in LA was a restaurant called Chasens, it's where all the celebs were to be seen. We had dinner there 3 nights in July of 1973. One of those nights we ran into Lee Majors and Farrah Fawcett and they had just married that afternoon. After realizing that Farrah and my sister-n-law had been sorority sisters at UT together they invited us to sit and have drinks with them. That was a really special night that I'll never forget. After we were seated later at a table we thought the man at the next table looked so familiar. We called our waiter over and asked who the man was. He turned and looked, then turned back to us and in his heavy French accent said...I don't know who he is, but he is nobody." It was such a funny comment...and one that we have never forgotten. To this day we will often say "he is nobody" in our fake French accent.

My Fathers side of the family are heavy and I have inherited that problem. I was fine until I hit 30 and then its been a constant battle. I go up and then diet like crazy and stay down for a while. We also have the suicides on that side and depression problems. The depressions are caused by chemical imbalances in the brain according to one of my doctors. As that side of the family gets older the imbalance gets worse. Luckily todays tests can recognise where the imbalance lies and what is lacking much better that 40 years ago-so as long as I can afford insurance its no problem. I have some relatives who are not so lucky.

I just discovered my relation 10 years ago. I did NOT know Elvis or even thought that much about him through all those years .
After I saw him I became more interested in him and his life .
About 10 years ago I decided to look into his life and death.
Along the way, I discovered we were related to many of the same people.
I was as surprised as anyone. On further searching and talking to many people I found out we were distant cousins. I've never capitalized on any of that and certainly don't ever want or need to. I do not know Missy,, but then I'm not a great one on geneology either .I stop when I find what I'm looking for.

I have some medical problems Elvis had and I studied and was interested in a lot of the same things he did, but no one looks like Elvis Presley .;) I'm 6' tall and weigh 175 lbs.
I've had some problems with depressive/anxiety disorder over 30 years ago.
Thank goodness I found a doctor at the time and I was treated for a chemical imbalance . I do not drink, nor am I on any drugs except for my diabetis.

All I know is the ones that I've talked to don't care what Priscilla or Lisa do with Graceland as they feel it was given to the one it was meant for....his daughter. Many have not even bothered to go see Graceland or even go to Memphis as they're happy and busy with their own lives. Obviously, they are very proud of Elvis.

Yes Gail, Ryan O'Neal is looking after Farrah, they've been in a relationship forever, broke up briefly and got back together I think once she discovered she had cancer.

I just saw Lee Majors on TV not long ago - it was a sit com and I don't remember which now - he was a guest star on the show....it was a comedy I think.....he looked pretty good.

Wow Cameron, thanks for sharing this....what a suprise it must have been for you to realize you are related (even if distantly) to Elvis. Missy's hubby's Mom's sisters (I hope I have this right) were married to Glady's brothers....Travis and Junior? I hope I'm getting this right.....so depending on where you are in the family tree.....you guys would be related sort of anyways.....pretty neat!

I'm glad you are making sure your health is taken care of - it's always good to know when there is problems in the family (my side has cervical cancer) to make sure and get your check ups regularly.

It seems to me that one would either have to be crazy or really have a fettish for backlash in order for them to WANT to 'share' or disclose their connections with Elvis on here. After all, the only thing that would lead to is this constant badgering that cameron has gotten......and I seriously doubt that anyone else would want to follow suit on that! ;) Besides...someone made a really good point: There are some people who are just content to have known him, without wanting the constant interrogation and/or speculation from others. Believe it or not...I'm sure some folks just don't want to have to answer questions that may be an intrusion of their privacy....:supriced:

Unless I was a close enough relative to have spent time with him I don't think I would mention it either!! Heck, I've been called a liar just about the times I saw him!!! There were many years that I quit talking about my experiences with Elvis because it seemed I was always having to defend myself from being accused of lying about it. But, I finally came to realize those people just don't matter and I decided to share with those who do enjoy the "good" stories from a fan who was there and not the "ones who were there and loved him the most"....to that last statement I would like to add some of them "just don't know what love is"!!! Most people are very nice when you ask questions about Elvis.
Some--especially on MB are not. I left MB about 6 years ago and just went to a couple of private ones with friends.
So, I was left with just reading books or contacting the people that were really there and cared about Elvis. Plus a few doctors, attorney and even the funeral director. Most were very nice; though there were a couple that refused to say anything. I didn't blame them at all and never pushed.
It was just my past time . So many thought I was writing a book.
Never in my wildest nightmares would I tell some of the things I was told. It's just not the way I am.

Don't blame ya for being on the defense with that 'related to Elvis' thing. I know you must catch a lot of sarcasm from the 'doubting Thomas' types. I don't speculate too much. If you go so far as to say it publicly...then you must be telling the truth, or be really dumb. I doubt that you would be that dumb. So I believe ya.... Kelly got my relationship exact. I never met Elvis but hubs of course did and then their are the family stories. It is a double edged sword. But I decided that if people don't like what I say or stories then oh well. I really enjoy telling people things I know. (not for me but for you all cause I know you enjoy them) I am used to them. And there are things that I won't tell publically either. Things I feel most people just don't need to know. It is hard seeing my family bashed at times but I think that they can handle it too as it is old by now. And to me the whole truth is stronger than anything. The one thing that does bother me is the story about people not knowing or incorrectly saying who taught Elvis to play guitar. I know it was my father-in-law. The details go with all other stories I have been told by people who just accepted that. That bothers me cause if you knew my father-in-law (God rest his sweet soul) you could see the connection that he and Elvis would have) And he was such and important part of what Elvis became. Elvis loved Dad and never forgot what he taught him. But the world gives him little credit. But again, I know the truth so I try to accept that.
I also know that private information in detail can be clues (to my name) and I don't want to be harrassed for sharing. Ya see how it isn't that easy to say you are related or close to it?
But for the most part I think people are respectful. Thus far I think it has been a good experience. I am grateful for those people who keep my information private.

I've been around long enough to see just a small part of what Elvis had to deal with. It would have have driven me crazy. Who needs it??

IMO, he gave us more than we could or should ever ask for.It was his life. If people can't respect him; then just leave him alone.I had no part in any of it .

She said she was a cousin. I said on what side. She said the Smith side. Then I said OMGosh maybe she was related to hubs. Who was her father and mother. Then she asked why and I told her that he has cousin's related to them too. And I asked what her mom and dad's name was. She told me it was none of my business.
This is not to prove a point about Cameron BTW. I just got a tickle out of it at the time.

Was it a secret or just unaware ? No one said it was a secret ,just no one thought about it one way or another .
No one was interested in Elvis Presley or thought anything about him.
Their last name wasn't Presley and they were interested in Sinatra, and/or some of the very old country music.
Now, had some been related to some of them, it might have been different. ;)

I didn't ask them their reasons for not knowing. I don't know a lot of my relatives and am not interested in finding them. I'm also related to one of our presidents; but I could care less .
I suppose you know all yours ? If so, good for you .

Was it a secret or just unaware ? No one said it was a secret ,just no one thought about it one way or another .
No one was interested in Elvis Presley or thought anything about him.
Their last name wasn't Presley and they were interested in Sinatra, and/or some of the very old country music.
Now, had some been related to some of them, it might have been different. ;)

So...that's your story and you are sticking to it? That not a single soul in your family gave a rats's patoot that Elvis Presley was a relative?? They would have preferred Porter Waggoner?? Or Dolly Parton? Keep looking....you obviously have a family loaded with famous folks.:supriced::supriced::lol:

I do wonder, though, if any actual relations are on here ... or are some just big-noting themselves?

Like I said, if you're in here people ... let's hear from you! (y)

I'm related to the woman who used to live next to him by Graceland that's it.

I know of one "big-nothing" on here

I didn't ask them their reasons for not knowing. I don't know a lot of my relatives and am not interested in finding them. I'm also related to one of our presidents; but I could care less .
I suppose you know all yours ? If so, good for you .
I'm not a genelogy buff in the least and as far as I'm concerned ; I look at myself as more of a fan than a relative.
I never knew him.

Oprah might be a possibility . I like Oprah . might look her up.

l see where you coming from, l may not be related to famous people, but my life was like unsolved mysteries, took me years to find out the turth on things.

I have some home movies of the family. (no Elvis in them) But they were 8mm transfered to disk. I wanted to pull some off as stills but can't figure out how. I really don't want to buy an expensive program to do it. Are there people I can pay to have it done?

That's right, Jen.
I never knew my dad until the last few years of his life.
Don't remember being bitter, just confused.
Finally, my sense of humor took over, because I found out before they told me.
I let them have their "little secrets". ;)

I never met my older siblings, but met my younger ones.
They're one of the reasons I finally went back to Graceland .
We had a great time !! (y)

I liked the "Road to Utopia" and the last Road picture-"Road To Hong Kong"
Yes Gary also did a "Twilight Zone" episode in the 60s he played a rock and roll singer who enters the "Twilight Zone". He sang in a group in the 40s into the 60s with his brothers as "The Crosby Brothers" He had a few records released in the 50's on his own and a duet or 2 with his Dad. He also wrote the autobiography "Going My Own Way" which was not to complimentary to his Dad.

In between beating the living crap out of his kids, of course. ;)

Interesting trivia: Bing gave his final US concert on August 16th, 1977 (in Concord, California).

:D Exactly! We neighbours must stick together! You go search your family tree and I'll search mine. If you find anything, just let me know. Hope never dies! But you're right. We all feel close to Elvis. He's like family to us anyway. So, everything is fine!! (y)

He was very hard according to most his first set of kids, the two twins killed themselves by self inflicted gunshots. (years apart) His second family including Mary Crosby (who shot JR on Dallas) say he was a good father so he must have mellowed as he aged.
Here is quote atributed to Bing about Elvis in the bio "The Hollow Man"

Vern Taylor, who accompanied Portland, Oregon, radio celebrity and Crosby fan John Salisbury to Hillsborough for an interview with Bing in the fall of 1975 describes how Salisbury tossed names at Bing for comment as he taped the interview for a broadcast. Bing spoke glowingly of Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Connie Boswell and the like, but when Salisbury mentioned Elvis Presley, Taylor said that Bing's blue eyes suddenly went cold and he said, "He [Presley] never contributed a **** thing to music!"
Taylor says that Salisbury was startled by Bing's pronouncement and that he was momentarily non-plussed. "Elvis?" Salisbury said. "Elvis Presley?"

"No," Bing said. "He was successful -- hard to account for. Oh, he sings well enough, I suppose." (page 221-222)

I suppose.......what is he CRAZY? Jealous maybe? Man...I am a Bing Crosby fan myself - but that's just crazy talk. Who is more famous than who in death? Anyone have any numbers?

In all fairness to Bing I have also read that was not his exact quote- but thats the way they it appears in the book. So I want to think maybe he was misquoted, or they twisted it some to juice the book up. But if its true it shows he may not have thought much of Elvis.

yes, I always hear these kinda things about Mr Crosby and he sure had difficulty about accepting how big Elvis was ;)but all I care is Bing's voice at the end. he sang very good.Hey! once again, we see Elvis was a whole package of good things ..talent,looks and a wonderful heart and lots of good qualities..so unreal for some people to believe, for sure...

And, IIRC, Bing said it much earlier than '75 too. But, like Frank, he came around. Bing gave an interview the day Elvis died and spoke well of him.

Thats the date they give in the book for the interview, but I have read elsewhere it was 72 or 73.
