There are many songs I would have loved to hear Elvis sing but high on the list would have to be the Roy Orbison numbers 'Cryin' and 'Running Scared' and a song performed by Frankie Laine entitled 'My Friend' which would have been a great song for Elvis to record.

Since i am a big fan of Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash, i wish Elvis did more songs by Johnny cash, songs like.

Give my love to rose
come in stranger
wide open road
mean eyed cat.

and few others.

Some inspired choices here. I really have none to add at this moment, but I just had to comment especially on the mention of O Holy Night.

I love Elvis' Christmas catalogue, but one song that I hold in as high esteem as any of his is, I daresay, is Nat King Cole's version of that song. And I too have often wished Elvis had given it a try. So I was quite surprised to see someone else mention it.

Actually that was Fire that Bruce wrote from Elvis, but I agree Pink Cadillac (which was written after Elvis died) would have been ideal for him. Jerry Lee Lewis did a good version of it.

"Fire" which has already been mentioned.
"Heartache Tonight" which the Eagles did originally another one I thought Elvis could have nailed.

OK. I know it's an Elvis soundalike but it will give you some idea what "Slow Hand" might have sounded like if Elvis had done it.

Had he recorded Wolverton Mountain it would have turned out to be such a fun Elvisly-sounding song.. well, how couldn't it sound Elvisly in his hands?
It's cool any song could be either rough or soft, wide or narrow, tall or short, childish or adult.. it fitted him if he believed in it.

That would have been cool. When I was growing up my Dad was a huge Jerry Reed & Chet Atkins fan. Not to mention that Dad was/is a ferocious picker in their respective claw/fingerstyle. So I grew up listening to him play their version of Tennessee Stud. I think you are right. If one put Elvis' vocals over the top of this dual guitar track, it would rock......

I could easily hear Elvis and the TCB band doing this. In the 1970's, the Lynyrd Skynyrd band sounded more like the TCB band than they do today. Dual guitars, piano, back up singers, etc. Gary Rossington and Allen Collins were chicken pickin' on this song anyway, so you know that the master James Burton would have tore it up. As far as Elvis goes, you know he would have wore it out.
