Happened upon this small article, but I think it pretty much sums up the reasoning behind the supposed changes that are allegedly in the works.

http://www.alleyinsider.com/2008/3/elvis_in_2013__still_dead__making__190_million

It's sad to think that the primary concern for these folks is how much money they stand to make. And even sadder to think that the fans are the ones who are gonna be padding their pockets.

Makes me wonder if they have forgotten the REAL reason that he was so famous to begin with....? :hmm:

CKX is in the business to make money, they got to do what they have to do. But as far as the casinos is conserned I like the idea of a casino but I dont want to see a neon sign of Elvis doing a karate move. I just wouldnt like those type of tacky things.

Yes, you are correct, but this so called, "business", could care less for Elvis and all he was and stood for.

Their only objective is to exploit Elvis' name and image to the fullest to benefit and deepen there pockets at our expense with tacky merchandise and promo ...

Personally, I think it sux ...

I realize that they are involved purely for the business aspect...that is my complaint. They are betting that we, the fans, will pay whatever price to 'experience' Elvis. :hmm: I hate to tell them, but I can experience Elvis through his music more than anything else...and that seems to be the one thing they didn't acquire, nor seem to care about. JMO...

It's sad to think that the primary concern for these folks is how much money they stand to make.

This is completely unfair and illogical ... and I am the last person to defend CKX, or BS and his cronies.

CKX is a business ... it is only logical that they posted their estimated projections for the next five years. It is standard business practice. It allows investors the chance to see whether they think CKX is a good investment.

Naturally, they have posted their information on a business website, so obviously that is why money and finance seems to be the primary concern. And from a business point of view, it is.

I rebuke the unfair and illogical statement Getlo...(n)

I understand that they are a 'business' and are in it to gain a profit...(duh!)...I also understand that they post this to attract investors... Contrary to what you obviously think...I am NOT that uninformed. I can see the relevance.

My gripe was that they made it clear in the article, if you read it, that not having 'musical rights' was NOT an issue for them to be able to profit. THAT was my pet peeve...get it?? Elvis=Music...? And from a 'business' point of view? Music WAS his business, wouldn't you agree??? And if they are counting on the fans to provide them with a profit, which (of course) they are...they should NOT focus solely on the profit margin for all the world to see.

They have every right to profit from his image. I just find it sad that his accomplishments, musically speaking, are taking a back seat to his ability to rake in the cash.

Who says his music is being lost or pushed to the side?

Who says Sillerman aint got the fans best interest in mind?

I'm sorry, but I just don't get all this hatin on the man for tryin to make Elvis more likable, accepted, and appreciated in the 21st century.

I'm not on his bandwagon just yet, but I do think he's doin some good right now. He built his own empire from ground up, so I think he knows what he's doin.

I could understand if he was gonna build a magic kingdom in the front yard at Graceland, or make the home into an amusement park with coasters hangin over his grave. Then I could see the point for all the constant complainin and arguin.

But he aint doin that, so why make a big fuss over it?

It don't make sense how some of yall are actin over this. My 4 year old son acts more mature than some of yall do, literally.

Now, as for Sillerman and the dollars that are about to come in......I'm all for it. It's a win-win situation for both Memphis and Elvis.

And just to let yall know, for the record, I was over by Graceland last week and I noticed a bunch of young folks over at the Plaza as I was comin through there on my way into Whitehaven. I didn't see many grandparents around, if you know what I mean?;)

Any business should have a healthy respect for the product-in this case Elvis.
IMO Since Elvis is not a cartoon character, nor Coca Cola that respect should be taken even more serious. Any business also has to respect and listen to its consumers-thats straight from Business 101. Consumers drive any business. New Coke is a prime example of a company who misjudged their consumers.New Coke was the unofficial name of the sweeter formulation introduced in 1985 by The Coca-Cola Company to replace its flagship soft drink, Coca-Cola or Coke. Properly speaking, it had no separate name of its own, but was simply the new version of Coke.
Public reaction to the change was devastating, and the new cola quickly entered the pantheon of major marketing flops. The subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula led to a significant gain in sales-and eventually New Coke went the way of the Edsel.
(another major miscalculation by a huge company)

And for the record:
In 1976 when I saw Elvis there were about 12,000 people in the audience, about 1/3 were teenyboppers, about 1/3 were about my age at the time which was 22 and the rest were a mixture of 30s to, 50s and yes grandparents.
So I would not put to much into seeing young people only on that day. Each generation some young people "discover Elvis" not because of remixes, nor how much flashy expansion is about to take place. It happens because they are independant thinkers who are not afraid of bucking the popular crowd trends and they see and hear something they like-pure and simple. This is a fact. From 1965 Elvis was not the next big thing-yet he survived, drew new fans and sold relatively well. Compare any rocker from 1955 to Elvis-in world wide sales success, world wide fan expansion, and sold out concerts. They did not do as well, I'm not knocking any of them its just true. I am not trying to make this a generational argument. I have wanted to remind Sillerman and EPE that we are still a big part of the golden goose. Bottom line is we still have the cash and to not take our opinion lightly. I consider myself in the second wave of Elvis fans because I became a fan in the 60s. The 4000 teeny boppers at that concert were the third wave of fans. They would only be in their early 40s now so there are still a lot of fans left who are not planning to kick off anytime soon. (no matter what some might hope;))

Well, keke...just for the record...

I, for one, have not heard anyone here professing to be 'hatin on the man'. Not sure if you meant that literally, or if that is just an expression you used, but either way, disagreeing and hating are two different things.:supriced:

As for the fuss we 'all' are making... Honestly, once again, let me point out that anytime you disagree with someone it can get labeled as making a fuss. I am NOT fussing. I made a valid point, IMO, and it has nothing to do with Sillerman personally. If I choose to not agree with the proposed changes, that does not make me childish nor does it make me immature. Last I heard, this forum was a place to express a difference of opinion...

And no, I don't know what you meant about not having seen 'many grandparents around' the plaza. Is that supposed to be some kind of sign that older people no longer like Elvis nor pay their money to travel to Graceland??? As KPM pointed out, the powers that be would be wise to consider where the majority of their fanbase lies...and I really don't think that would be in the young folks category. May be wrong...but I doubt it.

Exactly right. I know little of Sillerman. I have no reason to dislike him nor anyone else over these issues. But I will make my points as clearly and strongly as possible. I have emailed EPE and Sillermans CKX to point out exactly what I have been saying here. (no replys) Not to anger nor cause controversy-but to point out there is a fine line to tread between profitable and respect. I think most businesses want to know what their consumers are thinking. I will say about him that his middle initials FX give me pause-he will not say what the X stands for. FX together represent special effects in motion pictures-smoke and mirrors? Just a thought.

Who says his music is being lost or pushed to the side?

We do ... the fans who have loved the man and his music for years.

Who says Sillerman aint got the fans best interest in mind?

And what did BS do for the 30th anniversary? Next to nothing! What did we get? More Greatest Hits releases, and re-packaged stuff that most fans have 1000 copies of.

I'm not on his bandwagon just yet

Yeah, right. Sure you're not ...

Now, as for Sillerman and the dollars that are about to come in......I'm all for it. It's a win-win situation for both Memphis and Elvis.

Not when it comes at the expense of the dignity of the man. Talking holograms, anyone? ;)
