THIS THREAD HAS NOW BEEN OFFICIALLY DEEMED THE "GRACELAND RE-DEVELOPMENT THREAD!"
Over the past few weeks, several threads have been started in the forum regarding the upcoming redevelopment plans for the Graceland area. While we are certainly thrilled with the response to these threads, having too many of them scattered around the Elvis Presley forum was getting confusing for many members!
Several of the recent threads on this topic have been merged together into this one, so all recent discussions that have been scattered around the forum are now here in one convienent place for everyone to read and respond to!
EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY THIS IS THE ONLY THREAD THAT IS TO BE USED FOR ANY AND ALL DISCUSSIONS ON THIS TOPIC!!
Have fun!! :D

I told you guys yesterday that I had been working on a graphic of what I would like to see happen with the surrounding areas around Graceland. It's taken me a while to finish it as my own little project for personal interest. I have added my own vision and touch to it as I would like to see it turn outin the next few years. I also took everything that Bob Sillerman and Jack Soden have publicly spoken about and alluded to of what we can expect. As you will be able to see there are no roller coasters, ferris wheels, or zoos or anything tacky or tasteless in any way whatsoever in my project. I have taken the approach of upgrading the area with the integrity of the mansion intact. I felt as this should be in a thread by itself and not lost among the nonsense of the other ones taht constanly get off topic and locked up because of fighting. I do want your opinions and wnat to know what you think. But PLEASE do it in a fashionable and classy manner and not rude or disrespectful. Some of you may like it and see where I am going with this and some of you may not and may think it's over the top or not your taste. That's understandable. But remember, to each their own. I personally think this is what is needed to lure in families, kids, teenagers, young adults and still have the Elvis Experience that the die-hard fans crave for. I hope you all take a positive and openminded approach with this. Below each graphic is a chart showing what everything would be. Up first is phase one.

I didn't come up with an actual name for the visitor's complex yet. I thought about ElvisWorld but that sounds too much like a theme park title and kind of cheesy. The Elvis Experience sounds more professional and more attractive and may be the ideal name for the complex. Or the Graceland Resort. I would also love to see them do something with fireworks on special occasions. Maybe have a fireworks over Graceland exhibition on weekends or during the summer. Or at least during EP Week and the Fourth Of July.(y)
Just bumping this up for the ones who never got to see my graphic layout of what I think Graceland should and now may end up looking like when the dust has settled.(y);)

Yall don't hate me for sayin this, but they said this mornin on the news radio while talkin about the Pyramid issue, that EPE/Sillerman are about to pump in anywhere from $500M-$1 billion into the Graceland area.
They were sayin that if the city gets behind "Elvis World" that it could soon look like a Vegas meets Disney. No homes around it. No slummy areas. And no crime at all.
Nothin but first class attractions and dining.
One guy was sayin that Memphis has been there and done that before and we ended up bein let down when somethin big like this was proposed.
Another guy said, he'll believe it when he sees it actually happenin.
See, that's why we never have nothin good here. Folks are pessimists and not optimistic.
Anyway, I think we can count on Sillerman to come through with the funds for it, since he does happen to own the American Idol franchise.
The money won't be a problem. It'll come down to if the city officials get behind and work to make it happen to improve our city.
IMO, they'd be complete fools to screw this up. If Memphis is to ever be where we wanna be as a world class destination, then Graceland is our #1 priority, not the pyramid.
They were sayin that if the city gets behind "Elvis World" that it could soon look like a Vegas meets Disney. No homes around it. No slummy areas. And no crime at all.
That sounds wonderful and exciting!(y) Little by little we are starting to get more of a vision as to what is going to be built in the expansion. So are they going to name it 'ElvisWorld'? I don't want an actual theme park next door to Graceland. I think that would be too tacky.(n) But I think if they did a classy museum park with a theme park feel to it then that might actually work!(y)
FX Luxury, co-owned by Sillerman-affiliate Flag Luxury Property, has a stake in the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, as well as a stake in 18 acres of land on Las Vegas Boulevard. The developer has made offers to buy the rest of both properties, offering $180 million for the land on Las Vegas Boulevard and $34 a share for the Riviera -- pricing the hotel at $424 million. If the buyout is completed, the land will be used to develop themed attractions based on Elvis and Muhammad Ali.
"We have come to realize that there is a substantial opportunity to capitalize on the Elvis Presley and Muhammad Ali assets in real estate and location-based attractions," Mr. Sillerman said in a statement.
Hmmmm
Perhaps the totals that are being thrown around as money totals to be invested in the Elvis Empire-are not all earmarked for Memphis alone.

This has absolutely nothing to do with what is being planned financially at Graceland. Why even question it? This is about Las Vegas, not Memphis, Tennessee. Lakeisha posted that Bob Sillerman and EPE are about to invest $1 billion into the Graceland area. It said nothing about that including the Las Vegas plans for what is a completely separate project. You think that's a lot. Then you haven't even heard the next step which is Dubai in the middle East. There's plans for an EP themed resort and Elvis Experience there too.;)(y) I'm telling you, the man has BIG plans for the King! Why are the fans so down on that?:hmm::hmm::hmm:

Please play nice people ;)
There's some very interesting similarities between Walt Disney (the man) and Bob Sillerman. For one thing, Walt was a developer and investor just the same as FXS is today. They both are visionaries and have long term goals even though they know they may not live long enough to see those goals reach their potential and to their expectations in a long term scenario. That's why Walt developed his own enterprise and put his younger brother on board and in charge for when Walt passed his brother would take head of the Disney empire and keep it from being overtaken by outsiders who had no understanding of his vision. Walt planned to build this fantasy world called "Disneyland" in an suburban country area of Anaheim, California and many doubters said it would never survive and called it waisted money. Boy were they foolishly wrong. Disneyland and the Disney World resorts of Orlando are the most visited destinations on this planet at well over 8 million visitors a year at each park. That over 50 eyars since Walt's vision became a reality!:notworthy
Now I mentioned all that because of what FXS is about to do. I think he is the new Walt Disney and is planing to leave his mark on the entertainment and media world with his investments and developing of them into world class attractions. It was HIM who mentioned the comparisons on par with Disneyland before the media took it and ran with it. Now there might not be an actual EP theme park involved in his plans for either Graceland or Las Vegas (yet at least). But there will be one down the road somewhere. Masybe at Disney resorts in Orlando? How do I know this? Simple. It is mentioned in the original documents involving FXS' investment into the naming rights of EP and the Graceland area that theme parks, themed restaurants, beverages, food, EP themed golf courses, entertainment complexes, etc ARE all in the works. And remember, Lakeisha did say that Disney is in talks with EPE at the moment about something involving the area around Graceland.
UTMOM mentioned that she doubts that FXS will ever put $1 billion into the Graceland area and that she would be able to do that before him-that's alughable.:lol::lol: When you consider what all has been publicly reported by both media and EPE it all adds up to well over the proposed $250 million mark. Here's an example of what I am talking about.
1)A new 500 room Convention Hotel would cost no less than $100 million and could run as high as $300 million. And since Soden has already said that FXS is a "bigger the better" type of guy, then let's assume it will cost about $250 million or so.
2)The new Elvis Experience. This is the new visitor's center and museums being planned to be built on the same side of road as the mansion sits with a new walkway over to the mansion from the left. This is where I think a theme park setting (like my museum facility graphic layout) comes into play. Bob Sillerman said last year when asked about the "theme park" aspect thing, he said "it won't be an amusement park, but it will be a thematic attraction." In other words, it won't have rides but will have the feel an imagine like a theme park with museums. This was where I got my vision for my layout from. To build this new development, it will cost anywhere from $100-200 million (depending how big he wants to go). If you factor in that they will have to have multiple new facilities and a new visitor's center (7 times the size of Graceland), you're talking about 4 to 5 maybe 6 new hi-tech buildings to be built. So what do I mean by a theme park some may ask? Simple. What does a theme park have besides rides? It had beautiful landscaping and attractions that entertain visitors. Entertainment can come in so many different ways. From riding roller coasters to walking through a hi-tech interactive museum that comes to life. Beautiful water fountains and an outdoor plaza area to walk around without being crowded. That is what the image of a Graceland theme park will be like. not a bunch of roller coasters and sky drops.
3)Retail and live entertainment components. This would be in the large space across from the mansion where the planes and plaza are housed today. Considering how they want this to be a fan friendly atmosphere and as Kevin kern put it, "first-class attraction" then I can see them putting quite a bit of money into this to lure in visitors and residents of Memphis. Possibly as much as $100 million or so for a true first-class retail, dining, entertainment complex. This would probably be their tourist trap for income the most. And lets face it, the people visiting Graceland today are not poor low class civilians. They are already spending a good amount of money as is. Adding in new hotels, restaurants, and night life will triple the dollars for EPE. FXS originally planned an outdoor amphitheatre. But that hasn't been mentioend lately. Although he talks about bringing stars from his Idol show to perform at graceland. So that could mean a new indoor amphitheatre instead (as I have on my graphics layout for the area across the street from Graceland).
4)2 more hotels TBA are planned to be built. This could come to as much as $100-200 million or more.
Now I just listed 4 major things being planned that would come out to about $400 minimum to as much as $800 million or more maximum. So the "$750-1 billion" estimate is not far fecthced at all.:)
here are some photos of what I am referring to a "theme park" atmosphere. As you will see there are no rides in these.(y)

I don't usually participate in this thread due to the amount of speculation that abounds about what Sillerman will be doing in Memphis/Graceland etc. I prefer to see official announcements and then actions.
I do have one question.......
What the hell has all this malarkey to do with Elvis?
All these gaudy adornments weren't there when he was alive and IMO will detract from the safe haven that Elvis secluded himself into. Anyone who added a meditation garden into their grounds would be absolutely shocked at such things happening.
Yes I understand that Pris altered the house after Elvis died, but what I have read on these last few pages fills me with dark foreboding that a legend of Elvis' stature will be reduced to that of Micky Mouse :nono:
I understand that you have to move with the times and upgrade facilities etc, I just hate to think that Elvis' home and surrounding areas will become a temple to kitsch.

IMO it has nothing to do with Elvis. It is starting to look and sound like "the monument which Sillerman built"-in praise of big business. Sprucing up the area, giving it a more modern look and making it safer is one thing- this appears way beyond that. The emphasis is not on Elvis, nor what he might have liked or prefered for things near his home-the emphasis appears to be on "size and vastness of scope for building".
Elvis is not Micky Mouse-Elvis actually lived and breathed.

I agree with you about 100,000%. If you look up the word tacky in dear ole Webster's dictionary there should be a picture of all this crap. And, I'm guessing that next to the word buffoon is a picture of Bob Sillerman. But...I also keep reminding myself that Sillerman hasn't really shown us anything in pictures that he has planned for Graceland. All of these images that 98% of this board finds disgusting are the dreams of one over-zealous fan. One or two zealots that I hope and pray are not on Sillerman's design team.;);)
It seems that EP and Mickey are already connected.

I don't see any humour either. Those that do will have a hard time convincing the rest of us that they have any respect for Elvis and his integrity. How sad to sacrifice a man's dignity so that they might have the "last laugh." (n)(n)

You don't: it is not in any of the reference books, has never been mentioned in any biography or anywhere else.

Apparently you got your WRONG information from the lying manipulative (made up fake ID's) John Carpenter at FECC. Anyhow here's a whole two page thread on the trip from that hypocritical site. I had to prove my stance on this.:notworthy:notworthy:notworthy

EP75,
I don't normally care to address matters from other boards but since you brought it up, the opinions of the last two people to post in that thread I happen to respect greatly in terms of Elvis facts, and they don't see any truth to the Disney World story. So I don't see your link as an argument in your favor.
Now let's leave topics from other message boards out of this one, thanks. Let's not speak ill of that site either.
And speaking of arguments, this topic is going nowhere fast for now because regardless of whether people agree or disagree with you, we just continue to speculate on this matter and being a contentious one, it is not worth all the hassle until we have some official news to talk about.
So let's leave it alone for now, please. That includes messages from people really agreeing with me with ten winks and all that jazz, because that will not serve to cool things off. I'm leaving it open though and trust that the next post will be a substantive one.

And what does this FECC thread prove? Nothing! The Disney World visit is just a rumour. Did you even read the FECC thread?!
How on earth could Elvis visit Disney World, let alone in the middle of a tour? And there is no way he could have rented it for a few hours either, like Libertyland.

I understand. However all I have been posting the past few days is MY PERSONAL OPINIONS OF WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE ADDED IN THE XPANSION. Not that Bob Sillerman IS doing this. Although some of what he has said is easy to figure out what he is planning.;)

Hmmm...so...is most of this stuff that's been posted (both now and before) just things that you'd like to see happen rather than what is actually going to happen?
Frankly, I won't believe any of this until I see it for real.....I bet that what Bob Sillerman actually does (and I absolutely think it's hilarious that his initials are "B.S.") and what's been posted here will be two entirely different things when all this is said and done....

What I see from these picture you are posting IMO has little to do with the expansion. IMO you are attempting to anger some of us into an argument. The Micky Mouse picture with the Elvis impersonator was pretty obvious.
I ask respectfully why? You have to realize you are angering people with a poor attempt at humor. The next pictures with the crowded look and bright electric purple and pink colors are not much better. It looks like 6 Flags- threw up Disneyland!I ask why?

The landscapin at the current plaza sucks and it goes well with the ghetto image look of the area.
