Just how much dignity do you want to leave Elvis with?
A new Scatter?
I have no words ...
Yeah, agree with Getlo here.
An animated Elvis....a new scatter..come on:doh:

Don't be shocked if Bob Sillerman does indeed do a replica of the upstairs in some form. He knows it is a popular curiosity by fans and even to casual visitors to see what it looks like up there. However I doubt that he would include the bathroom as it would only give critics something to use against EP.(n) But a recreated mock of his master bedroom, Lisa's room, the study, EP's office and his mother's bedroom would be ideal and a very popular attraction. I would also like to see a model of his Beverly Hills home too along with the Hilton suite in Las Vegas. They could do an entire building of replica models of his personal live. From Memphis to Hollywood.(y)
Also, if they do go with a park-like setting (or a museum park) with multiple facilities then I wouldn't mind seeing a life sized model of the Tupelo shot-gun house included as a free walk-through exhibit.(y)
And another idea. How about an illuminated TCB logo somewhere?
Well, I think the life-size replica of the Tupelo house might be a bit much....especially since it might keep fans from going down to Tupelo. Why drive to Tupelo when they could see the same thing at Graceland?
I do like the building of replicas idea though!! And I think having the whole thing in a park setting would just be the perfect way to do it all!!! :hmm:

Another special exhibit that I would like to see and think would be very popular to the young visitors would be a spiffy guitar exhibit of EP's personal guitars from acoustic to electric and bass. I think this would be a very accepted exhibit by all fans and visitors.
A much needed exhibit or even a separate museum is a Singers & Songwriters museum. Something to focus solely on the band-mates and songwriters and producers with memorabilia.
RIGHT ON EP75!!! (y)
I think a well done exhibit on The Jordainaires, Scotty & Bill, The Imperials, The Sweets, J.D. & The Stamps and The TCB Band is EXACTLY what is needed to help tell the Elvis story!! Yes, Elvis was THE KING but it was all of his back up musicians and singers that helped make him sound SO great!!! :notworthy

We need a deluxe dvdset of the CBS Special first though..(y)(y)
Sadly, I think the CBS Special probably falls into the same category, it seems, as a DVD release of ELVIS ON TOUR!! And that category is when H**L freezes over!!! :'(

I still have faith that we will see a deluxe dvdset of eot, ttwii, and eic..when, i have no idea..but eventually when theirs nothing else to put out, they will finally release it! Until then, i am perfectly content with the dvd's of outtakes I have in my collection of all these documentaries.:D

Now this idea I like very much.
With the TCB Band, would be cool if they put stuff like photo's from studio sessions, stage photo's from concerts, maybe if they could get Burton to loan them his famous Pink Paisley guitar on display and some of the bands outfits etc..:notworthySome cool idea's being brought to life!!

I hope the big screen is added, as you say they have room now - HD definitely! And I'd love to have the costumes encased so you can walk about the entire thing - even if just a few are showcased at a time. Scatter - well, I'll have to reconsider that notion. How about a golfcart course, then? LOL

Actually...it's called Elvis. That would be the human being born in 1935 and dying in 1977. I sometimes wonder if you pat yourself on the back after some of these ideas that are thrown out there.:doh: Maybe you are the one that needs to be writing the book..it could showcase your vivid imagination!!:supriced::blink: I am speechless over some of the things I have read lately.:supriced::supriced:

Since this has been going on so long, I decided to get in touch with EPE and Sillerman in California . Just lodging a complaint about the myths going around. IMO, it's a waste of time to get the speculation going until some concrete, specific info is announced by Sillerman himself.
It's not as if we will have any input about any of it anyway.
IMO, this only hurts Sillerman and EPE with the constant speculation.
KPM says it better than anyone what we'd want or not want to see.
His source appears to be common sense . ;)

Thank you! I'm even surprised that the moderators allow this person, the only one that keeps on posting about the upcoming changes, to keep on and on and on and on without pratically anything to back it up .... No wonder there only seems to be a handful that reply, the ones that did (me included) have dropped out (well, besides now ;))
Who's willing to bet that EPE will not stop shuttle buses in and out of the gates; as that would take the magic out for so many?

Then I guess it will just take away from the "magic" for so many because it has already been reported by both media and Soden that there will not be anymore crossing the street or use for the buses and that there will be a new walkway over to the mansion from the new visitor center. The proof is in the pudding.:D

That statement speaks volumes. This tells me that Soden is as clueless as to what Graceland's true appeal is as those that want monkeys running around and talking wax figures. Obviously, Soden must not have been a fan back in the day either. The irony of the situation is people used to accuse Elvis of having no taste, or bad taste....but compared to these new nit-wits and their ideas, Elvis was pure class.;);)

He didn't know a thing about Elvis, his music or his Graceland until he went to work there. Actually, he wasn't the one Priscilla actually hired - it was a partner of his (I think) that died after being hired and Jack Soden took his spot!! Talk about being in the right spot at the right time!!

Because it's said that they filmed somewhere around 50 hours of footage for EOT. Now come on, what fan wouldn't want all that footage in their collection. Perhaps complete shows of Hampton Roads, Greensboro, Richmond, San Antone etc.;)(y)

That's correct. That is what I have been saying. The new Visitor Center will be on the same side of street as the mansion while there will no longer be any need for the buses or entering the gates. The wooded area that Soden was referring to is the area to the left of the mansion. Here's a shot from Google that I have highlighted. The blue area is where the new Visitor center complex will go and the yellow is where the new walkway will go up to the mansion through the small wooded area as Soden has alluded to.

I do not spend alot of time worrying about what Sillerman an EPE are going to do. They are professionals, they know what they're doing, and they aren't going to do something I don't think that they know the fans will throw a fit over. You might should research Bass Pro Shop as much as you have EPE. ;)
It's much more than "a bait shop" and employs many workers.
As well as sells very expensive boats and other things.
People come from miles around to visit them and spend their money.

I keep saying that myself.;) IF there was just one thread that kept the "real news" out here about Graceland and Memphis; I have no problem with that.
To put out "hearsay" no matter from what "sources", just upsets everyone for no reason, IMO.
Also, IMO.... Bob Sillerman might be a nice guy and just wants the best for his investment. To put out all the wild suppositions just hurts him and anything he plans to do. Therefore, I don't understand the purpose of undermining his plans. Unless, that IS the purpose.

EPE would love to see this released, actually, but I'm thinking that they and Turner will possibly run into problems with RCA/BMG/Sony due to music publishing issues...the same as they did for the first release of "Aloha" on DVD several years ago. If you all remember, that fiasco caused "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry"/"Johnny B. Goode"/"I Can't Stop Loving You" to be deleted from that first DVD version.

This spring, you'll see a whole new look to the shopping center just to the north of the entrance to the Graceland parking area. In addition to Souvenirs of Elvis, the Graceland Harley-Davidson Shop and the Rock 'n' Roll Café, the Graceland Crossing shopping center will also be the home of the '68 Special exhibit and shop and The Private Presley exhibit. Also new to this area is the Everything Elvis shop which will offer a great selection of Elvis gifts and merchandise. A kick-off event is planned for late March.
To help share the excitement of this transformation and installation of three new exhibits, Graceland Archives Director, Angie Marchese, will be posting blog entries here in the news section of elvis.com, so check back for regular updates.

Hey everybody, there is plenty of activity at Graceland these days, especially in Archives, WOW, we are ALL on the move. We are starting the transformation and creation of three new exhibit areas that are sure to knock your socks off, or my archival gloves, when you see them!
We just put the final touches on the new VIP Tour exhibit yesterday. We dug deep into the Graceland Archives for this re-vamp of the VIP Tour exhibit area. For the first time ever we are displaying the living room furniture from Elvis and Priscilla's honeymoon hideaway in Palm Springs, truly a blast from the past with this vintage furniture display.
Another favorite of mine in this exhibit is a collection of photos from the first-ever professional photo shoot with Elvis. In 1955 Elvis posed for William Speers here in Memphis and this portion of the VIP exhibit allows visitors to see the original proofs from that shoot that have Elvis’ handwriting on the back, indicating his favorites.
I would write more, but it is back to work for me and the Archives staff. Check back soon for more updates in our news blog.

It’s another day and a different side of the street. We are now over at Graceland Crossing working on the installation Private Presley. Before we could even start thinking about putting up camouflage netting and exhibit text panels, we first had to de-install the Elvis After Dark exhibit, hopefully you all had the chance to see it. Oh my, that was a job. Following typical Graceland Archives protocol, all of the artifacts were delicately packed away in acid free tissue and boxes, then loaded onto a truck and back to storage until they are needed.
Now the space is ready for a new coat of paint, Army Green of course, then it’s off to the races for our Archives staff. We have three days to turn this space into Private Presley. Looks like a mess right now but we are starting to get a feel of what it will look like as test paint and camouflage nets are going up on the walls as we speak, it’s all coming together nicely, and the good news is that it’s still on schedule!

You might should research Bass Pro Shop as much as you have EPE. ;)
It's much more than "a bait shop" and employs many workers.
As well as sells very expensive boats and other things.
People come from miles around to visit them and spend their money.
They're all over the US.
You are right Cameron. There is one in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area and people come from hours away to get there. It's not my cup of tea, but some are crazy over it and all it has to offer. Personally, I am more of an "indoor girl". ;):D

Don't worry Gail! They are planning all those wonderful attractions only for
the 'new young Elvis generation'.... ;):supriced::lol:!

I love the outdoors; but never invested thousands of dollars in a boat.
I just rent them or have friends that have them. :P
Thanks for the up-date, Jen. Now I'd call that specific. (y)

Well, at least they aint sittin around stallin untilt they get their new expansion built to add new exhibits.
If I were Graceland, I'd lower prices for the next couple of years so that they wouldn't lose business.
Folks are gonna have to deal with the loud machinery work next door while tourin Graceland.
If I was a visitor payin all that money, I'd be pissed at the disturbance from nearby.
Some folks are already sayin they're gonna wait for the changes before spendin the money to go back. I'm 1 of them.
Aint nothin there now that won't be there and better in a couple years.
For the record, these aren't permanent exhibits, they're just there for now and will be torn down with the plaza when they open the new expansion.
But anything that takes just 3 days to put together obviously is cheaply done imo.

That's correct. That is what I have been saying. The new Visitor Center will be on the same side of street as the mansion while there will no longer be any need for the buses or entering the gates. The wooded area that Soden was referring to is the area to the left of the mansion. Here's a shot from Google that I have highlighted. The blue area is where the new Visitor center complex will go and the yellow is where the new walkway will go up to the mansion through the small wooded area as Soden has alluded to.
http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg233/jay_256/graceland_ex-phase1-1.jpg
That's right. It's gonna be on the east side of EPB next to the original grounds.
Jay, can you do me a favor? Can you post a full and bigger pic of the Graceland area with the neighborhoods?
My friend who lives in Whitehaven, not my source either, but a female friend I grew up with and went to school with at WH, told me that she's been hearin a lot of rumors from local residents in that area that Sillerman and Graceland are about to buy up ALL of the homes in that area and make it more private.
I told you about a possible residential buyout last year, remember? Well, it sounds like my source was right again.
Sillerman wants the area to be less residential and more commercial. That's why he wants the CC to pass/approve the rezonin readings.
That's apparently the last major hurdle for EPE and Sillerman.
Once they get by that.....it's all gravy from there on.

BPS won't happen from my undertsandin. Nobody wants it here.
Local power investor Greg Ericson is pushin hard for a Pyramid Harbor redevelopment, similar to Graceland.
He's gonna turn the pyramid into the world's largest indoor theme park with Disney type rides.
He's gonna build 2 new pyramid style hotels next to the pyramid.
He's gonna have, dinin, shoppin, and live entertainment.
All just like Sillerman plans for Graceland.
BPS is a outdoor sports store and don't fit in Memphis like that.
Maybe somewhere in the suburbs or outskirts of town. But not at the pyramid.
Memphis aint Fort Worth. Memphis is a predominantly black city. It would be a terrible idea to have a gun sellin store that close to downtown knowin guns are a big problem in our city today.

Trust me, folks here don't want it. They want Pyramid Theme park.
The only folks supportin it is the mayor and his crooked office.
Memphis is the 15th largest city in America. We can handle 2 or 3 major tourist attractions if we need to.
Tourism is what will make this city survive and raise up out of debt.
Crime is much higher in Memphis than Dallas. I can't believe you'd be so naive to say that it aint.

I think it depends on what site you check. Sadly...one site lists 1.Dallas, 3.San Antonio and 4.Houston(n) As a Texan..it's certainly not anything I am trying to boast about. Memphis does have a high crime rate for so-called "black cities", as does New Orleans. You and I both know that the black people that are out causing and contributing to the high crime rate are not buying their guns from a Bass Pro Shop. ;)

As far as I know Graceland's roof aint been replaced in the past few years.
But a house that old needs upgradin for it to last and it's a really old house.
Anyway, the roof has gotta be fixed and they're plannin on doin that.
That was my whole point.
I do not spend alot of time worrying about what Sillerman an EPE are going to do. They are professionals, they know what they're doing, and they aren't going to do something I don't think that they know the fans will throw a fit over. I just focus on what boots and FTD's we get and keep the love for Elvis' work growing. Thats the most important thing imo.;)
Famous last words ha ha;):D

That is not the point of many of us with questions. I have never thought they were going to tear down his home-why is it so hard to comprehend that what everyone is questioning is not improvements- its whetherl the improvements will keep the personal feeling of Elvis Presley in the experience of visiting Memphis. Will making huge drastic changes around the mansion change that feeling? Will the feeling of Elvis Presley, the man who lived at Graceland in Memphis-be lost in the vastness of a huge total redevelopment?
Everything changes, there is no stopping it-but there is change which enhances and then change which detracts. The heart of the matter is ELVIS. The questions I am raising are how much of the heart will still be there after this is all said and done? Can anyone give me a reason to not ask this question? If you are more interested in just cleaning up Memphis, knocking down the old neighborhoods and building newer more modern money making facilities- the question I have raised will not be of much concern. When you cut out the heart of anything-something dies. That is why some of us who love Elvis, are concerned. I don't know, perhaps others are not concerned with this philosophical question-because it is not the top priority to them. But the more I hear of this-the more that question keeps popping into my head.

I aint callin you out on this so don't take it like I am, but if the expansion is botherin you and the others, then why do yall even reply?
I mean it aint like Sillerman is gonna have a change of heart.
Some of yall need to realize Graceland aint a home no more. It's a business no matter how hard some wanna make it look like Elvis is still there. He left Graceland over 30 years ago.

Haha, very funny.
I can guarantee that the expansion will be underway within the next 6 months.
The only way it would be held up is if the CC rejects it, and that aint gonna happen unless EPE and Sillerman ask for the keys to the city and more money than can be financed.
Just remember what I said.;)

EPE would love to see this released, actually, but I'm thinking that they and Turner will possibly run into problems with RCA/BMG/Sony due to music publishing issues...the same as they did for the first release of "Aloha" on DVD several years ago. If you all remember, that fiasco caused "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry"/"Johnny B. Goode"/"I Can't Stop Loving You" to be deleted from that first DVD version.
You could possibly be right Tony... :hmm:
But I'm sure that EPE made out just fine releasing that butchered version of the ALOHA DVD while they were working out the publishing issues so that they could be put back into subsequent DVD releases!!

I think what is partly upsetting to everyone here is that Sillerman (I think it's funny how his name initials are "B.S", don't you?) and EPE seem to be forgetting that Graceland once was Elvis's home and that (at least it seems to me) they're losing sigh of that very fact and trying to turn the area around Graceland into something that (I think) Elvis would very well not approved of.
IMO, Bob Sillerman/EPE are only interested in the $$$ that these renovations/improvements are going to bring them. They could care less about Elvis or his image. If they cared about his image, they wouldn't be marketing/selling those deplorable ducks that they've been selling. Elvis was much more than a duck's head!
I don't believe they care as much about Elvis's legacy as one might think they do. I may be wrong and if I am, I'll eat my words.

Just found this on Elvis.com today...
Be sure to check out EXCLUSIVE pictures of the new exhibits at www.elvisinsiders.com (http://www.elvisinsiders.com/). If you're not an Elvis Insider, join today! When you join The Official Elvis Insiders, you’ll receive discounts and get access to rarely seen Elvis Presley photos, Graceland artifacts, Elvis video clips and rare documents from the Graceland archives are just a few of the exclusive items you'll have access to as an Official Elvis Insider.

Hey everybody, there is plenty of activity at Graceland these days, especially in Archives, WOW, we are ALL on the move. We are starting the transformation and creation of three new exhibit areas that are sure to knock your socks off, or my archival gloves, when you see them!
We just put the final touches on the new VIP Tour (http://elvis.com/graceland/tickets/default.asp) exhibit yesterday. We dug deep into the Graceland Archives for this re-vamp of the VIP Tour (http://elvis.com/graceland/tickets/default.asp) exhibit area.

FEBRUARY 13, 2008

FEBRUARY 13, 2008
Less the 48 hours to go. Things here at Private Presley are going along smoothly. Just a few more photos and a couple more yards of netting to hang and we can start dressing mannequins. Was going through some of our Army documents to pick some out for exhibit and found a letter sent to Vernon and Elvis from Elvis's grandfather Jesse. He basically catches them up on what was going on state side in Louisville . Also found a rough draft of a article from Family Circle titled "Has the Army Changed Elvis?" It was really cool to read a first hand account from Elvis's troop leader in Germany.
Now comes the task of deciding what documents to use and how they fit into the story. While working on the text for the exhibit I realized the like this year, 1960 was a leap year. How? Elvis's last day in was Feb. 29,1960. Well, better get the white gloves on and get back to work.

You could possibly be right Tony... :hmm:
But I'm sure that EPE made out just fine releasing that butchered version of the ALOHA DVD while they were working out the publishing issues so that they could be put back into subsequent DVD releases!!

Mike
I'll add to that and say that I bet they'll release another "deluxe" edition of the specials (that includes the '68 special) years down the road because they've found something else to put in the set--and we'll all fall for it again.

Can't argue with that Tony!! (y)
In fact, I'm surprised that they chose to release the accidentally left out IT HURTS ME segments as an Easter Egg on the single DVD release of the '68 Special instead of waiting a while, then re-releasing the deluxe box and including them on there!!

Of course it's all about money. That's all anything's about in the real world.
That's why I don't see the point in arguin about it.
I don't want Graceland to be an amusement park or 1 next to it or across from it, but I don't want it to be seen as a ghetto either, and that's the problem with it and the area today.
I wanna be able to drive down to WH and see a really nice surroundin area that puts Graceland in the spotlight.

OMG....what's up with this dignity stuff?
It's aint like they're gonna tear down the home and rebuild it into a large massive museum.
They aint even gonna build or touch the mansion except for maybe re-roofin it.
The roof has some issues with leaks that needs to be repaired.
Other than that....Graceland the home won't be messed with.
Why is this so hard to comprehend?

Unbelievable..........
It has always been his home and it will forever be his home - doesn't matter how much he brings in to Memphis!!!
Funny though, how some aren't concerned about his dignity but rather how much "MONEY" he can bring in!!
The "dignity" subject is questionable when the Colonel himself did not have any dignity towards EP or his image to begin with. So to say that Lakeisha was wrong about that is questionable too. I can't speak for her but from my understanding of how she worded it was more to do with the complaining than the integrity being damaged or taken away. The integrity is the most important thing and what the fans should be worrying the most about. You take away the integrity of Graceland then you destroy the dignity. But I don't see them doing neither.
It's also obviously clear that some of you have a vendetta against Lakeisha and that's why you attack her views all the time. But that's all they are, is her views and she is entitled to that. And you have to give her credibility since she does happen to live much closer to Graceland than any of us do and actually lived in that neighborhood at one time. So she would know what is going on much more than any of us can possibly imagine.
Now let's get back ON TOPIC and to respecting each others views and quit to finger pointing. This thread was doing so good as a simple debate and opinionated topic. But as of the last 2 pages it has turned into another argument and it's always the same ones. But let's just nip it in the bud now and get back to serious and respectful discussion.:)

Nobody's arguing - we're just stating our opinions too! But, you're wrong you do speak very well for Keke!
You ask and you shall recieve.;):) The first is what you asked for (I believe) and the second is of the entire area owned by Bob Sillerman now.

Just for fun-what special exhibits and new attractions would you like to see added at Graceland in the near future as part of the newly planned museum and Visitor's Center? My wish list would be:
*The Family Man - focusing on EP as a father, a husband, and a son.
*The Boy Named Elvis - an exhibit focusing on his childhood growing up in Tupelo to his adolescence as a teenager in Memphis.
*Elvis & Ali - highlighting his publicized friendship with the champ and their admiration for each other.
*Rags To Riches - focusing on his generosity and donation organizations to his humble upbringing,
*Birth Of A Revolution - focusing on his place in American history and pop culture as a milestone ground breaker.
*The Hollywood Years - a hi-tech exhibit focusing on his legendary movie career with modern day technology and detail. Maybe displayed in a wax figure format.
*The Concert Years - a hi-tech exhibit focusing on the 1970's tours in an unique fashion with illuminated lighting and flamboyant special effects to fit in with the flashy image that EP had with his show.
*A Hi-Tech Digital Movie Theater - showing the popular mainstream films and concert films and documentaries daily in 7.1 surround sound and HD.
*A memorial statue - honoring him for being an American soldier.
*A Life Size statue - honoring him for his legendary status.
Anyone else have any special exhibit ideas that they would like to see come to realization? (y)
I like your way of thinking. I was actually expecting some type of memorial statue myself when I went there last year. They got one in downtown off of Beale St but not one at his home, strange. Love the theater idea. That too was something missing that you would expect since he was a movie star as well. I felt the museum they did have was too small and lacked detail in the exhibits. It just kind of ran through his life without any real focus.
It'll be interesting to see what all new changes and additions they make. But they won't draw as large of a crowd as they expect to if they don't add some type of big time nightlife. People won't stay there if they got nothing to do at night. That's the way I see it.

Here's a suggestion you and to all that are against the plans. If any of you have a problem with some of us supporting or liking the plans for the redevelopment then don't post and no arguing with happen. All it does is lead to arguments anyhow. Leave this type of topic to the ones who actually care. Then they don't turn into arguments and bitterness and end being locked. This is reasonable and should be considered by all. Yeah that's the area I was referrin to.
Thanks so much! I can always count on you to come through for me, lol.
My late grandfather's home, where I used to live, is just to the right corner of that 1st pic, out of view.
Anyways, those homes all in that area is what folks in WH is talkin about EPE/Sillerman buyin up soon.
Some of the bigger homees to the left, behind the apartment complex, has already been bought up by Sillerman.
BTW, in case you didn't get my email this mornin......Happy Valentine's Day!:)
His memories are all that's left. No matter what you add or take away, the memories can't be removed.
I'm not sayin this to be mean or disrespect Elvis' legacy, but it is what it is.
I am replying because I want to see any expansion done the right way with Elvis at the center to not lose that feeling. Once again I will repeat-the "continued drumbeat" about what may or may not happen, and how it will all come down has taken me from pretty much seeing the positive side of the plans-to now having great doubts about what is happening. I also know that any "smart business man" will listen to the people who he is trying keep as customers. (whether thats a bread company, Walmart, or selling Elvis) I hope that the "smart business man" will see he is not dealing with just bread, or any typical commodity. If you want the one time customer (not real fans just tourists) then the clean steel of new buildings and surroundings with electronic gadgetry will do that. IMO if you want to really build on Elvis's fan base-that it not the way to do it. There is more to getting and keeping a real fan than "cleaner and more modern looks"
You state "it is not a home any longer-its a business". Strange the only reason people have gone there since it opened is "to most of them it is a home" "ELVIS"S HOME" I want Sillerman and anyone else to hear that if they proceed as you imply with the idea that "This is a business, it is no longer a home" they will lose many who will no longer see the need to go! If many who have supported Elvis do not still feel that it is a home-millions of dollars in merchandising will be lost. Anything and everything that is marketed to the real fan (the ones who have literally spent billions on Elvis merchandise since 1955) will suffer. The one time visitor will buy a souvenir or 2.
Some are more interested in how the redevelopment affects the city-not the legacy of Elvis. I mean this is an Elvis site-not a site devoted to urban redevelopment. So do you expect fans who see big changes on the horizon (which may or may not be good) to just turn their heads and not be worried?
We have spent the dollars which have kept Elvis a marketable commodity! Sillerman would not have expressed interest to buy EPE, if the dollars we have spent supporting Elvis had not been there to start with.
You have pointed to the last years as proof of how the attendance to Graceland has slowed-the fact is the economy since 9-11 has slowed. There were years of nothing but loses for the airline industry. Several filed bankruptcy. The hotels, restaurants etc... suffered big time. Graceland is no different. Today we have the mortgage crisis, which is into its second year, the fuel crunch, and we have probably been in recession for the last 6 months. (which economists are just recognising) Gracelands attendance totals are amazing in that they have not dropped more. And why have they not dropped more-is it electronics laden huge new structures-no its because fans want to visit "Elvis's home"
"Mr Sillerman I ask with all respect-Do not make plans which do not take into consideration the long time fan who has spent the billions which caused you to be interested in the first place." "If your idea is just concentrating on the things you feel will draw "20 somethings" you have a good chance of failure"
"If the feeling that this is still Elvis's home is lost-you will lose our support, our dollars and you will not build new fans!

I doubt that Sillerman reads these forums.
I don't think they're aimin anything at 20 somethin or tryin to push away the long time fans.
IMO, I see it as them tryin to upgrade, as most businesses do for better profit, and to lure in new fans.
I'll say it like this, if I was a non fan livin in say Atlanta who didn't think much of Elvis or Graclenad, but then I see this big announcement and advertisement for Graceland becomin a musical Disney type of resort attraction with modernized building, then I'd be at least curious and enticed to go see it than I would as it is now. But would I get that excited to see just the house? probably not. That's my point.
That's why I said, it is what it is.
You see it as a die hard fan who sees it totally different than the casual or non fans would see it.
I personally think if Sillerman was out to destroy Graceland, LMP would put a stop to it since she does still own the home. She can close it down if she wants.
He just controls the outside area.
I don't see this new expansion as anything other than what Graceland needs now, and that's a new face lift and appeal.
Once again, yall may not see anything wrong with it or the area. But live there and I'll bet you'd have a different opinion.
If EPE would get up off their a$$ and release some drawings of the plans then maybe some of yall would chill and exhale some. They're the ones causin the problems with the fans by holdin it all back in secrecy.

As always KPM, you have made more sense than any other post I have read on this topic. I decided last night not to go overboard anymore with this poster and the constant repetition of the same topic over and over and over. If you will scan back a ways you'll see that the truth did finally come out. There is no genuine feeling or concern for Elvis and/or his legacy.....the truth was only a concern for the economics of Memphis!! Not really a clue as to the true meaning of "Elvis" and what he represents to those of us that have spent the billions since the beginning. Just remember to take the economic bonus to Memphis and add it to the age and inexperience of the party and the lack of understanding for the man and I have a feeling we are NOT getting the real picture of what Sillerman may be planning. In other words.......take it all with a grain of salt!!

Once again; I see nothing wrong with cleaning up that neighborhood and Graceland.
IMO, it's just all the speculation that turns people off without any solid input from Sillerman.
Since most of the time EPE is included as meaning Sillerman in these posts; I can't see why Sillerman is lauded as being so great and EPE is looked down on.
Where once I was for it, now I'm just getting tired of hearing about it.
Best to just leave it alone and let things progress.
My sentiments are like KPM's.

I will point out many from Atlanta have visited just the "house"
I am sorry your area concerns you, am not against seeing it bettered and have not implied that. Have said the only reason a bad area is even considered for such a huge mostly private redevelopment is Elvis. So we want to see his legacy as the number one consideration.
I have never implied Sillerman was out to destroy Graceland-I have said he better tread the fine line between upgrading to attract new fans and alienating the long time fans whos hard earned money spurs the whole thing.
Why is it you find it hard to think a "smart business man" willing to spend hundreds of millions on expansion-would not have someone keeping tabs on what customers are saying? Public relations is an important part of a business. In order to serve and plan for your customer you have to research them. Research in any company takes many forms, and in the "age of the internet"-research is easy as one click-TCB Forum-or any other Elvis forum to find out about your customers are saying.
And lastly if Sillerman wanted to release drawings, or sketches of what they play-it would have been done long ago. EPE only does what Sillerman wants in connection with the outside development-common sense since its his 250 million being spent. To think that is not the case is to not understand corporate life and where the power lies. Probably the final plans for all the redevelopments are not final-and you would not release info which might end up being wrong. Smart business men do not like egg on their face it does not inspire confidence.
Finally their is no need "to chill" -personally I have made my plans known-if I visit after all is said and done and it feels "cold and impersonal" without the feeling I use to get- that will be my last dollar spent in Memphis. I will still be a huge fan, I will still buy any unreleased recording, movies etc...but the other money in Memphis will stay in my pocket. So we will see as it totally unfolds how they do this, its theirs to win or lose. If they ignore the concerns of fans, its not smart business. If they do not have the capacity to change their plans as the need arises (including imput from fans)-then they are not smart business men.

You wanna get personal? Then let's get personal.
I have been a fan of his since I was about 14 I guess. I just never told any of my friends because he wasn't cool nor liked by them.
I didn't come outta the Elvis closet until ALLC was a huge hit at the clubs and kids my age at the time were jammin to an Elvis song. Then I knew it would be okay to be a fan in public around my peers.
Fortunately my boyfriend was a fan and that led me to fall in love with him because we so much in common.
It's so much easier for a 40+ year old fan to walk down the street in any city, much less Memphis with an Elvis shirt or hat on.
For a girl my age, and my race..... it aint that easy without gettin the "you like Elvis? remarks thrown at you.
IMO, Elvis was cool, sexy, and could sing as good as anyone.
But his songs weren't all that great. He had some that I discovered through a fan who gave me all of her cds in a red velvet box and that's how I grew to love and admire him.
I like his 50's and 69 stuff the most. I like his TTWII stuff and some of his 70's stuff. If You DOn't Come Back, Sylvia, I'll Never Fall In Love Again, Feelin In My Body, Just Pretend, Promised Land, Pieces Of My life, Bringin It Back and It's Easy For You are just some of my favs..
I like his concerts. I watch some of the vids on Youtube. I wasn't around then to have been able to appreciate what a great and dynamic performer he really was. So I don't know how to act like yall do.
So my point is.....I like Elvis, no, I love the man! I watch his movies to see HIM. I listen to his music to hear HIM. But as far as callin him a God or a King aint right.
There were so many black music pioneers who paved the way for Elvis to even have the guts to shake on stage. He didn't get those moves from country singers. Muddy Waters did a lot that Elvis did on stage but no one never noticed because he was a black entertainer.
I'm not tryin to turn this into a race issue. But it is what it is and there's no sugarcoatin that fact. That's why so many black folks today hate Elvis. It aint that they hate the man. they hate the image of the fact that his heroes were our heroes who society has ignored in favor of him.
But unlike many blacks, I ignore the bitterness they throw at him. I'm always preachin to folks, Elvis wasn't a racist and loved black folks and did for us than any other white celebrity has.
As for the Graceland plans, yes, i wanna see them be bigger than ever. I see it as a win-win for both Elvis and Memphis together. I don't see it as the dignity bein taken away or lost or pushin fans away who spent money over the years to make him what he is today. I see it as a growin experience that is needed.
I wanna see more black folks, mainly young black folks, go there and learn who he was and his importance in even our culture and history of black music, and not what they've been taught to believe. But they don't even support BHM or the fact that blacks were an inspiration to him. That's why we feel unwanted at Graceland and many don't go.
That and the fact that prices are outrageous for lower class livin citizens. that's a major reason why most Memphians don't go there. It cost too much.
Now, if Sillerman decides to ignore the black folks and make it a "white Graceland", then he'll lose out more than he would if he made it a Disneyfied theme park with rides.
It probably don't bother yall but it bothers me.

How many of those ATL folks are young African Americans or teenagers at all who don't care for Elvis?
Maybe Sillerman wants to care for Elvis.
Maybe he wants to go in a new and different direction with Elvis and Graceland? That's possible.
Maybe he wants to make it where both young AND old fit in together instead of the older fans thinkin they rule the place or deserve a piece of the estate since they made it what it is? And some here act that way.(n)
That's why I say it makes no sense for yall to be criticizin somethin you don't even know what's about to happen.
They aint plannin no Six Flags over Graceland. All they're gonna do is tear down the older run down strip mall, which is the plaza and build a a bran new one on the other side of the street.
My source/friend told me back in early 07 that the plans were gonna be sweet and classy.
The media's the ones sayin it's gonna be like Disney.
Did yall forget the media hates Elvis and thinks he's a joke? Why yall think they always put up the worst pics of him in 77 when they do stories? It's do degrade him.

For my part this is not about race-never has been. Its opinion and debate.
I have debated with young black teenagers on line about Elvis-and they do not want to know the truth. One young man claimed "Leiber and Stoller" stole all their songs from Big Mama Thornton and Little Richard. Now that is utter nonsense-I asked them to show me where they got that info-they say they just know it. I was dumbfounded. They claim Elvis never gave any credit to his influences-I produced quotes by him where he did. I produced an excerpt from Jet Magazine in the 50s where he was praised for his colorblindness and credited with the talent he had.
I produced quotes from Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, James Brown, Rufus Thomas etc who gave Elvis credit for opening doors for them. Not one of them ever claimed he stole anything from them. Yet the young guys I debated did not believe any of it-even the quotes by the men claimed to have been ripped off by Elvis. Little RIchard did get ripped off-but not by Elvis. RIchard signed with Specialty Records and they ripped him off, their publishing company took most of his royaltees for songwriting etc. Elvis had nothing to do with it. Fats and Chuck also had these problems-but Elvis did not have a hand in it. Chuck Berrys style has country leanings-he has said so-yet no one has ever accused him of stealing from country music. Same with Ray Charles-his heaviest influence he said was the Grand Ole Opry.
As far as Elvis's moves there is no definitve answer (such as you suggest that he got them from Muddy Waters) some say it was from watching Pentacostal preachers who jumped and moved about in Tupelo. You state no country artists moved like that-you have never seen videos of Hank Williams who did move with his guitar quite a bit. I am willing to give Elvis the benefit of the doubt that he just had to move when he sang.
His first performance when Moore and Black began playing regularly with Elvis. They gave a few performances in July 1954 to promote the Sun single at the Bon Air, a rowdy music club where the band was not well-received. On July 30 the trio, billed as The Blue Moon Boys, made their first appearance at the Overton Park Shell, with Slim Whitman headlining. A very nervous Elvis's legs were said to have shaken uncontrollably during this show: his wide-legged pants emphasized his leg movements, apparently causing females in the audience to go "crazy" Elvis consciously incorporated similar movements into future shows. He did not even know he was doing it-someone asked him what were you doing he replied "I don't know" and he was told "well go back out and do it again"
I would also like to see new fans black, white whatever. But Dean Martin, Mario Lanza, Eddy Arnold, hillbilly singer Mississppi Slim were just as big an insiration to him as was Muddy Waters and BB KIng. So were the Statesman Quartet, Blackwood Brothers, JD Sumner etc....
I find this an interesting topic but its off topic I'm afraid.

And some here act that way.(n)That's why I say it makes no sense for yall to be criticizin somethin you don't even know what's about to happen.
Once again that is not my point-surely you know that? I have heard the word demographics which brings up age and age brings up who has supported Elvis the last 30 years to the point that Sillerman would spend so much to be involved. Why is that such a problem. We spend big bucks, if he wants us to continue to do so he should be happy we are still interested in what he plans to do. I have never said "young folks against the old folks"
I have said-This is a fine line to walk between drawing new fans and alienating the old ones. That should be a huge consideration. We with families have took are kids to Graceland, most have a healthy respect for Elvis, in the past many new young fans are born like that.
In the mid 60s it was not easy being an Elvis fan either-so your experience is not unique to your race or your gender surely you realise that also.
Maybe it is best to let this thread die cause this isn't going to teach anybody about elvis, just shows some have to always get the last word. simple thing to do is move on.
I'm not trying to breed ill will. I see the need for improvements in every walk of life. The question is and always will be how the improvements are done. As a guy who spends money on Elvis (like most here I imagine) you would think what we have to say would matter. But I have tried to stay respectful while giving my opinions.

KPM you always have the most postive and interesting posts and l for one always enjoy what you have to say and everything you have been saying about graceland and the improvements are greats posts but l hate to see someone like yourself trying to explain what happens in the real world and some not listerning. How many more threads do we have to have of this stuff before we get so sick and tried of them that we complain to the mods and say enough is enough?? its just silly cause we have no proof in writing from EPE about whats happening so my best bet would be just wait it out and let EPE gives us a updates cause lets face the media isn't always turthful either and whats the better hearing it from the horses mouth or listerning to hearsay, l choose the horses mouth. Well I imagine any business is not always as truthful as they should be.
I no longer see EPE as a seperate entity. Sillerman calls the shots, so any info we get truthful, less than truthful-starts with him. EPE is only the name for the company he owns 85% of under his corporate umbrella. But the more I learn of him-he calls the shots. Rightfully so since its his money.

There is only one reason fans or those who are curious about Elvis go to Graceland and that is to see his home and effects, they do NOT want to go and see a Disney Land theme park!! Yes the public look for modern facilities and amenities to use whilst there, but do they really want all the soul ripped out and some Presley-land theme park where you can go on the dodgems (n)
I do understand the comment about Graceland being an attraction rather than a home, it is for all intense and purposes a business, however the business to date has been small and remained for the most part true to Elvis' memory although changes have been made in decoration.
If Sillermans aim is to update whilst being true to the fundamental principals EPE have stuck to then the fans will remain loyal. If Sillerman turns Graceland into some cheap tawdry visitors centre he will not be forgiven...

I agree with this statement. I have seen many times in sports where the closest source to an event ends up being completely wrong. However I am not implying that Lakeisha's friend and source is way off on his information he's giving her. But sometimes people hear just the opposite and sometimes that is done to throw off that source from leaking out important information that is meant to be confidential.

spot on, Matt!!
You're always welcome.;) Yes I got your sweet email and Happy Valentine's day to you too. Did you get my reply? Lakeisha I am doing a web graphic design of what I think the Graceland area will look like in the next couple of years or so. I'll post it when I get it done. It's about 80% completed at the moment. I won't have time to work on it tonight because me and Anna are going out to a movie for Valentine's but I will finish it up over the weekend. Just letting you know in advance to be looking out for it. I think some here will like my vision and get a vision of what Bob Sillerman might be planning to do.(y)
You know I like to say "the proof is in the pudding" well I hate to say that I told you so but here's the proof that Graceland is already viewed by the general public as a "theme park".

Do we need to talk about this again. Graceland (as we know will not be touched) the surrouning properties that Sillerman is developing will be whatever it becomes with Sillerman at the helm. There is not much we here can do about it. I think it will turn out alright. We will just have to wait and see.
And lets not talk about race please.

I'm really going to try and respond to some of these post in a cool, calm and collected manner!! *%$^%*&&)(U*()*&(*&^^&$$%@#$#@%^&(*)&)(*&^(*&^%^&%#%$#
Elvis was not a racist! Elvis copied nobody! There are people who are jealous of Elvis and there are people who are jealous of me and there are people who are jealous of you! They can't take any responsibility for themselves so they always look to others to blame - that's where the jealousy comes from. But since we're talking about black and white let me say this. Had a good looking black man came along that could do what Elvis did - then the story might be different. But, nobody is going to convince me that Elvis stole "anything" from anybody! He was singing in church when he was 3 years old so basically he was born singing! He didn't wait til he moved to Memphis to learn how to sing and move from others - he already had it.
On another note - it wasn't very darn cool to be an Elvis fan back in the 70's either!! I was the only one in high school that loved him - everyone else was into Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, etc. I was known throughout the high school as the "ELVIS FREAK"!! It was a small town high school full of rockers and c/w kids - have any idea what I went through?
Maybe the talk of Memphis is if Graceland is built to bring enough money - then maybe the Memphians will be taken care of? While living he had hangers on who only wanted him around for his money and now after death he has a town of people only interested in how many his name can bring to their town? Poor, poor man! Thank goodness he did know that the little "Elvis freaks" like me where around and we only loved him for him!!
I don't refer to Elvis as my God or my King - I know the difference!
And, I would gladly trade these stupid message boards to follow him again!!
Frankly, if I had it my way I'd shut the gates and put up a sign that says "Elvis Has Left The Building" and finally he would be at peace!!!

I'm surprised that they chose to release the accidentally left out IT HURTS ME segments as an Easter Egg on the single DVD release of the '68 Special instead of waiting a while, then re-releasing the deluxe box and including them on there!!
"Accidentally left out" .... Hmmmmmmm, no. I believe it was intentional, and something to make the single-disc version of '68 more attractive to completists.
Same with the press conference Easter Egg on the single-disc of Aloha. It could have been included on the two-disc version, but they held it back.
This is just tacky ... classless and tacky.(n)(n)(n)
You're being ironic here, right? The man who suggested a kiddies' theme park with a new Scatter (;)) is calling a "vomit green" (ie army khaki) exhibit classless and tacky??!

I see the other thread got locked....again. Gee, I wonder why?
The other thread was locked because one of the moderators posted the following request:
And lets not talk about race please.
But despite this request, members continued to inject race into the topic...and because this simple request could not be followed, the thread was closed.
And just in case it was missed, the moderator that locked the thread posted this final message:
I am sorry some members have to bring up race and cause hard feelings this is not what this thread started out to be. Let's not do this again.
This has been discussed before....while we appreciate the lively discussions, and yes there is a certain degree of race that must be addressed when talking about Elvis' life and career, these references should be kept at a minimum and directly to the point. As we have seen before (and addressed before), bringing racial comments up over and over again is offensive to some members for one reason or another. What those reasons are for those members is of a personal nature, and we should respect that. Thus, the moderators of TCB-World will continue to monitor posts and will lock them if this gets out of hand again.

Great pics Jen, thank you! That's the kind of exhibition I would like to go

I told you guys yesterday that I had been working on a graphic of what I would like to see happen with the surrounding areas around Graceland. It's taken me a while to finish it as my own little project for personal interest. I have added my own vision and touch to it as I would like to see it turn outin the next few years. I also took everything that Bob Sillerman and Jack Soden have publicly spoken about and alluded to of what we can expect. As you will be able to see there are no roller coasters, ferris wheels, or zoos or anything tacky or tasteless in any way whatsoever in my project. I have taken the approach of upgrading the area with the integrity of the mansion intact. I felt as this should be in a thread by itself and not lost among the nonsense of the other ones taht constanly get off topic and locked up because of fighting. I do want your opinions and wnat to know what you think. But PLEASE do it in a fashionable and classy manner and not rude or disrespectful. Some of you may like it and see where I am going with this and some of you may not and may think it's over the top or not your taste. That's understandable. But remember, to each their own. I personally think this is what is needed to lure in families, kids, teenagers, young adults and still have the Elvis Experience that the die-hard fans crave for. I hope you all take a positive and openminded approach with this. Below each graphic is a chart showing what everything would be. Up first is phase one.

I didn't come up with an actual name for the visitor's complex yet. I thought about ElvisWorld but that sounds too much like a theme park title and kind of cheesy. The Elvis Experience sounds more professional and more attractive and may be the ideal name for the complex. Or the Graceland Resort. I would also love to see them do something with fireworks on special occasions. Maybe have a fireworks over Graceland exhibition on weekends or during the summer. Or at least during EP Week and the Fourth Of July.(y)

Now that's what I call a redevelopment.(y):notworthy It's extraordinary and perfectly done! Love the whole layout man. I agree with Keke23 that the second phase is outstanding and a place that I would like to see if I go back to Graceland one day. Your plan would most certainly attract everyday people to Graceland.
I noticed how the Phase 2 is similar to 'City Walk' at Universal in Orlando with the layout of the restaurants and shops by the water and hotel. But I really like your idea. It's original.:) I got a question though. What kind of retail were you referring to? Are you talking about gift shops and souvenir stores, or are you talking about mall type retail? Just curious to know what you meant.
Wow!! I haven't been on at all today and just saw that I had 13 replies to this. I expected most would be negative and downright mean. But I am surprised to say the least that they were all just the opposite. Thank you all for the nice and respectful responses. I am overwhelmed.:D I wanted to create this image of what it could and as you all agree with, it SHOULD look like or resemble. How realistic this will be remains to be seen. It would be wonderful if my vision becomes a reality. But I am not holding my breath to be let down in the end. I just know what has been mentioned by both Bob Sillerman and Jack Soden and put those together to create this layout. I also thought about the fact that they do need to move the planes inside and having it's own facility would make more sense than placing them inside the new Visitor's center.
Later when I get some more free time, I will give a description of what a day or two at Graceland would be like through my eyes.:D

I was referring to upscale retail stores like the Chocolate Crocodile which sells everything chocolate. Stuff like that that appeals to tourists and the general public that they can't get anywhere else. The EP themed retail could be at both the entertainment complex and the visitor's center. But it probably fits better for the fan experience to have the retail inside the Visitor's Center.
Yes I got the idea for the retail and entertainment complex from CityWalk.;)

I was referring to upscale retail stores like the Chocolate Crocodile which sells everything chocolate. Stuff like that that appeals to tourists and the general public that they can't get anywhere else. The EP themed retail could be at both the entertainment complex and the visitor's center. But it probably fits better for the fan experience to have the retail inside the Visitor's Center.
Yes I got the idea for the retail and entertainment complex from CityWalk.;)
Smart thinking about the retail idea. Uncommon is more attractive to the people than something that they can get anywhere. I was going to say on my last post reply that this layout you did might just be the first publicized on the net. I've searched and can't find another like it on the Graceland redevelopment. You can be proud of that.
I agree with the above poster who said you should contact EPE and let them see your vision. You might even get paid for it.(y)

OH. MY GOODNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!
im sorry, but you must definately call Graceland and speak to Priscilla and Lisa Marie, etc,... because to be honest with you,..... no matter what they do now, it's just not goin to seem as good as what you've done!!!!!
hats off to you!
OK, here's how I would describe visiting the "New" Graceland area.(y)
It's a Friday Morning and the sun is shining. You have been driving with your family all night to get to Graceland, You finally see a sign saying "Graceland Next Right". You arrive off of the interstate onto Elvis Presley Boulevard. Along the strip down to E. Brooks Road all you see is upscale businesses, restaurants, and 3 star hotels. You immediately see a large 500-foot electronic billboard advertising Graceland with images of EP which at night lights up EP Boulevard. It's all very clean and safe environment now. No more small rundown motels and stores with bars on them or junkyards along the strip or drug dealers around. As you approach the 4 way intersection crossing of E. Brooks and EP Boulevard, you see two large monument markers saying "Graceland Resort". As you cross E. Brooks Road, you see a large white limestone arch over EP Boulevard that says "Welcome To Graceland" in big letters with an island of beautiful red, yellow and white roses underneath it's entrance. The arch is about 200 yards in from the intersection. Once you see and cross under the arch, you know you have arrived to your destination! It's half a mile wide of museums, 4-star hotels, and upscale restaurants, all surrounded by breathtaking scenery and landscaping. You feel as if you have entered a new world, Elvis world! There would be large white streetscapes (on both sides of the street) with sidewalks and steel benches for pedestrians. Large banners waving in the wind with EP images on them from 50's 60's and 70's era. There would be flags representing each country to allow international visitors the "welcome" approach. As you drive closer to the mansion, you are directed by arrows and signs saying "Visitor Parking>". After you park, you take a short walk to the new pedestrian Bridge to cross the dangerous and busy highway. The bridge is class covered and closed in. Once you reach the end of the bridge you immediately see this large palace-like facility which is the new 80,000 square foot visitors center, stretching 160 yards wide (twice the length of Graceland). You see a beautiful water fountain at the middle of the pedestrian walkway plaza and entrance. You want to see the mansion up close before you go inside. So you walk over to the wall where there is now a side view of the mansion. It's the closest viewers have ever gotten without going past the gates. It's only 100 yards away compared to the gates and wall which is 190 yards away. After you have taken in the reality that you are standing in front of the world's most famous home, you are ready to take in the Elvis Experience.
As you walk into this spacious and elaborate building, you are led to the ticket area, which is large and looks like a hotel lobby. A large desk area would be in front of you where you purchase your tickets. The ticket packages would range from single tours of the mansion and the new museums individually up to Double platinum packages that allows you to see everything for less than purchasing individual tickets. I think ticket prices will go down a little bit in order to get more visitors to come there.
After you purchase your preferred package, you are led up a large white paved walkway through a wooded shady and clean area. Along the way you see a memorial area (open to public) that features a life sized EP statue of Elvis at Graceland. After leaving the statue you continue your walk through the woods, all of a sudden, there's Graceland right in front of you just feet away! After touring the mansion, you walk back down the trail to the center's complex. Then you let your day be planned out by visiting and touring all of the new and exciting attractions. The park area is a large plaza area for pedestrians. In the middle is a large water fountain and steel benches for rest areas around the fountain. While walking through the park area, there are light poles with EP's music from Sirius radio station located inside the visitor's center playing through the area outside. Now you decide which museum you want to see first.
First up, the Automobile Museum. A much bigger and better high-tech museum that exhibits EP's personal love and collection of cars and motorcycles and other toys on wheels. All set to a themed background all in yearly chronicle order as they were purchased by EP. There would be enough to see and do that would take more than an hour or two.
Next up, the Artifacts Museum. You want to see everything that EP owned that can be displayed and well detailed and documented using modern day technology from top quality lighting and display cases, to unique murals and interior designing. A state of the art experience through EP's life like never before. It would be big enough to spend all day at and really learn and study each display and exhibit. But for the casual fan, it would take them about 2-3 hours to see it all.
After that you want to see the Lisa Marie Planes Museum. Inside would be an introduction video and a photo gallery of the history of the planes. Then you would walk through an opening into the showroom which is where both planes would be to tour. This is another exhibit that could take awhile to enjoy and see.
After seeing all of that, it is now late in the afternoon. Before the transformation, it took around 3-5 hours to see everything there was to see. Now it takes all day and you have been there for almost 7 hours. Since it opened at 9 AM and it's now approaching 4 PM. And you haven't even seen what's in the visitor's center yet. But you're now hungry. So you decide to come back the next day and see the center and take in the park area a little bit more. Maybe walk back up to the mansion (free of charge) just to take it all in one more time and take pictures of it.
So now that your day is complete, you head back over to the other side by taking the bridge to the new retail and Entertainment complex to take in the nightlife experience. You want the full EP experience so you go to the new Elvis Presley restaurant. The restaurant is the size of the Hard Rock Cafe with more memorabilia of the King and his favorite southern fried foods while hearing his music over the speakers. After eating, you want to walk it off so you take the walkway around the large lagoon (230 yards in length) and pass the new amphitheatre on your way. As night settles in, you have the choice of going shopping and buying rare gifts that you can't get in other parts of town or your own town, or you can take in a modern day hit movie at the digital screen theater. Or you can walk back to the visitor's center and hang out under the stars until it closes at 9 PM. At night, the park is a sight to see. Each building is illuminated and all lit up. The plaza area is also lit up and illuminated at the fountain area. You might even want to take a stroll up to the mansion and see it up close also all lit up at night.
After that, you are beat and ready for bed. you head back to your luxury hotel for a king or queen style night of sleep. If not that tired, you can go down to the all-night pool and enjoy a late night swim at the pool deck designed as if you were in the a scene from Blue Hawaii (three times bigger than the one at Heartbreak Hotel today).
Once you wake up in the morning you walk down to the hotel's upscale first-class restaurant and get a fresh start on another adventurous day ahead. You still have more to see so you plan out your day again.
You start Day 2 with visiting and taking in the visitor's center attractions and see what is all there. Inside you see signs leading you to different attractions. For instance one of the attractions would be an Elvis & Ali exhibit (since Bob Sillerman owns both stars) with photographs and artifacts from the two icons. There would be other exhibits such as Elvis In Memphis, Elvis The Patriotic Soldier, Elvis Gospel Roots, Singers & Songwriters exhibit among others. All opened to the general public with free admission. You could take in a large photo gallery that allows you to see over 1,000 never before published photographs of EP and purchase. There would be a digital hi-tech movie theater that would showcase EP's concerts and most popular films and documentaries airing through the day and night. So you now want to see the exhibits and then take in say for instance the Aloha From Hawaii playing at 1:30 PM at the new theater in the center. The theater would have 7.1 Dolby digital surround sound and a video screen in high definition.
After the feature presentation showing is done, you then have time to shop for EP themed souvenirs and gifts at the retail and gift shops inside the center. There's also a food court and pizzeria on a second floor deck for you to grab a burger or your favorite pizza while sitting outside on the back of the top deck of the visitor's center over looking the park area and to the right you can see Graceland over the trees.
Now you have time to see the new 4D Elvis Experience in the park. Inside this hi-tech state of the art facility would be the technology that allowed EP to perform the duet with Celine Dion. Maybe see EP jam on Guitar Man with Aerosmith. or sing Bridge Over Troubled Water with Beyonce on stage in Las Vegas. Or seduce and romance Eva Longoria while singing Relax. This would be for the new generation of computer cyberspace fans who want to experience a virtual EP. This may not suit the older fans who are more "less is better" for their taste. So they may choose to exclude this attraction from their tour.
After spending most of the day sightseeing the center's attractions, you now have seen everything that Graceland has to offer. It has been a two-day experience. But wait, there's more! At 6 PM is an EP themed show at the amphitheater across the street. It's a tribute show to EP performed by the top ranked Tribute artists in the world. After the show is over, the sun is setting on another glorious day at Graceland. The staff at the entertainment complex let's everyone around know to gather along the lagoon for "fireworks over Graceland". An evening you won't soon forget. As night sets in and the sky turns to dark, the sound of the Space Odyssey comes across loud speakers followed by If I Can Dream, Peace In The Valley, and closing with An American Trilogy. As a climatic finish to Trilogy, the largest and most beautiful display of fireworks lights up the Memphis sky over Graceland and the reflections of the fireworks glare off of the water in pure beauty and delight.
It's now time to return to your hotel room. Tomorrow you leave. But what an experience you just took in over the past two days. An experience that would rival a Disney experience!(y)

Welcome to the Elvis World!! :king:
EP75, your description of the two-day experience, AMAZED me. You have impressed me one more time. It was as if I was there, tasting this experience, living it and seeing it with my own eyes. I loved the whole idea from the beginning, from the "Welcome to Graceland" limestone arch, 'till the end, 'till the fireworks.
You studied the whole project very hard and the result was much more than just satisfying. I loved the water fountains, the Museums, the Hotel, the pool, the Restaurant, the theatre, etc. I also find the 4D Elvis Experience a very attractive idea not only for the technology fans but for all Elvis fans.
I have to say to you, one more time, BRAVO EP75. :notworthy(y)(y)

I love how you described each attarction and time frame of each day. I felt like I was actually seein this with my own eyes.:supriced:
You have an incredible imagination. You should be a designer or architech instead of doin what you do now. You're too talented Jay!
I did notice 1 thing wrong. You said you cross E Brooks and EPB when you come up to Graceland. Actually that intersection you're referrin to is Winchester and EPB, not E Brooks. But it's all good. You did great on it all!:notworthy
I showed the graphics you made to my friend, and he said you did a wonderful job and from what he's heard, it's gonna be a complex of new attractions, kinda like you showed.(y)(y)
I'm hopin Sillerman don't do it cheap though and spend most of the money on just hotels. Go big and go expensive with the Elvis museums. He's got the money to do it so do it.
Once again......FABULOUS job!!:notworthy
Don't know how the real expansion will come out-but you obviously spent a lot of time on this.

Aww shucks. :D I am overwhelmed by all the positive feedback on this. To be truthfully honest I was expecting to get bombarded by some. But it has gone now 2 pages and no negative remarks.(y I really did not expect such gratifying responses. Thank you all.(y) I guess we can all hope then that it turns out something like this.
Lakeisha I am glad to hear that your friend liked it and saw some similarities to what he already knows. Makes me feel even more confident that maybe this is the direction that they're going in. And thanks for clearing the street issue up. I got the roads mixed up using Google.
I thought about sending it to EPE but I'm sure they already have their plan and are waiting to unveil it soon. So I don't think it would do much good.

If all goes as planned, and the CC approves it as expected, then they could start groundbreakin as early as May, from what I was told today.
So hopefully we'll see some pics of what it'll all look like soon.
I love your idea the best and hope it's somethin close to that!

You really do have a creative imagination EP75. That was awesome and well described:notworthy. I felt like I was actually there seeing all of this play out. If they do turn it into a multi-day attraction then it'll draw way more than they are getting now. What you described is exactly what was missing when we went there last summer. There's nothing for the children to get excited about and that's why my kid sister wasn't impressed.
I think your idea would be the perfect example of what it should be like. I agree with the poster as well who said that you should submit this to Elvis Presley Enterprises.(y)

So when will the City Council decide on the rezoning readings and approval? You would think that the plans would have been their #1 priority.:hmm:
I heard that a decision could come anytime between now and March 30, but it could be longer.
The latest news about the pyramid plans bein put on hold could either delay the Graceland plans or push them to the front of their agenda.
I don't know how the CC is gonna do this now or what they're thinkin.
I'm just ready for them to hurry up and approve the Graceland plans so we can see this dream project finally become a reality.

Yup, you heard that right. EPE is expected to spend close to $1 Billion dollars on the Graceland expansion. That's way more than originally expected.
My friend/source told me this last night after the game when he pulled me to the side.
He said that EPE and the Airport authorities are workin together on a possible light rail system to shuttle visitors to and from Graceland, like they do at Disneyland.
Do yall know what he is talkin about? Because I don't.
He said that's where Disney comes in. EPE is gettin ideas from them to use in their expansion, but it's bein very tight lipped.
He said there would be a story on the airport/Graceland area in today's CA.
Here's the link. http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2008/feb/24/businesses-ready-for-aerotropolis/
I copied and pasted the part of where it says how much it'll cost. It's all part of the new aerotropolis plan for Whitehaven.
Whatever they're plannin.......it's gonna be big.
"Although it has not said exactly what its plans are, Elvis Presley Enterprises is expected to spend $750 million to $1 billion in the neighborhood, adding hotels, convention facilities and generally improving customer experience at Graceland, the No. 2 most-visited mansion in the nation."

Don't expect too much to be said by EPE. Sillerman obviously don't want some things to come out.
IMO, I think we'll hear EPE say somethin like "we're about to make some changes that we think you'll be happy with" and that's about it.
I think you'll see buildings and structures goin up before you hear a word from EPE about what their gonna do.
They'll probably wait till they've started building before they say anything specific.

Maybe he means a momorail system. hat's what Disney has. That would be really nice for travelers who go into Memphis by plane or layover and don't have transportation down to Graceland. They could jump on the momorail and in a couple of miutes flat be there at Graceland. Brillaint idea by EPE and Bob Sillerman.(y):notworthy
Now back to the $1 billion being spent. That is a tremendous amount of money to be investing in Graceland or anything! It now makes my vision look more like a reality with my layout I made.:D Maybe they meant that the $250 million that was reported last summer was to go towards the new visitor's center and museums? If they are going to spend $1 billion or even $750 million, then I can see them spending quite a bit on the new museum facilities. As a life long fan, I am exstatic to know that somebody cares enough about the man and his legacy to invest a billion dollars into it! Thank you Bob Sillerman!!:notworthy:notworthy:notworthy

A billion dollars???:supriced::supriced: That's a major jump from $250 million to $1 Billion. Now I see why they don't wanna make any public announcement yet. They don't wanna give their fans heart attacks.:lol: That's ridiculous though.
Exactly what in the world are they going to spend all that money on? Memphis can't have casinos so that's out of the question. Me thinks a theme park is definitely in their plans for that much to be invested.:hmm::hmm: My kid sister may actually wanna go back to Graceland now after all.

Is it just me...or is anyone else having trouble keeping up?????
I read the article and found this interesting as to the timeline:
By the middle of 2009, we should be seriously implementing the infrastructure improvement project (which could include street medians and buried electrical lines), and beautification of the streets and sidewalks coming out from the intersection," he said.
In reality, the area won't probably see significant construction for three to four years, Lawrence said.
"In the next two to three years, we'll get a few small things happening, which should bring much larger projects."

They mean the industrial projects and businesses along Brooks and EPB.
They're not referrin to the Graceland plans. That's all completely separate.
No one really knows what exactly EPE/Sillerman are plannin to build.
But like Mark said, it does sound like a theme park, or somethin like one, is in the works, for that amount of $$$$.;)

Yeah, that's what he's referrin to then, I guess. If it's at Disneyland, then yeah, that's it.
The city and AA here have been talkin about buildin a 2-way monorail transit system that would stop at Graceland, the fairgrounds and go to downtown back.
It's expected to cost somewhere around 1-2 BILLION dollars and the AA would pay for it because it would be a project by the airprot to make the city an aerotropolis city.
But I would love to see Memphis come with this! I'd be ridin it all the time to downtown.
It would take a lot of folks off the streets and less air polution.
