View Full Version : Time For a True Elvis Biography

Suspicious Minds

Over the years the Elvis biographies has been misleading fans. The story about Elvis's first private single My Happiness is confusing some fans. We read in most biographies that this record was recorded for his Mother's birthday but the recording date is too late for Gladys's birthday. Other stories are misleading fans and causing unwanted rows on forums.
A lot of researcher writers copy other biographies. If one is wrong with info then all others are wrong.
Isn't it time for a new true Elvis Biography to be written?
With all correct stories and dates.
I have believed most of the Elvis biographies for years.

I Know What You Mean , That's Why I Started About 20 Years Ago My Own "elvis Biography" .
It Started With 1 Map , Now I Got 37 Maps With Photograps And Info Of Elvis Day By Day !!
So When I Got Something New ( Photographs Or New Info ) I Can Add It To My Biography .
( P.s. With Info I Don't Mean The Cowboy Stories From His "friends")

I agree with this 100%(y)

Not only a new and more accurate biography, but a more detailed movie covering his entire life, and not just until 1968!

I doubt we will ever get such a book that is filled with nothing but the truth.

Hopefully, with the new Sun book from Ernst, and Guralnick's work we are in good shape though.

Didn't Marion Keisler say in an interview that she thought the mothers birthday story was probably just a story he told as an excuse to make the record?

In theory Suspicious Minds, you are 100% right!! It is DEFINITELY time for a new and DEFINITIVE biography of Elvis to be released!

Unfortunately, there are several reasons why we will most likely NEVER see the DEFINITIVE biography on Elvis:

* Since EPE STILL does not want to basically acknowledge anything Elvis did after the "Aloha From Hawaii" special, anything that we might get that resembles a "definitive" biography will most likely be incomplete for the final 4 years of Elvis' life. We can't even get EPE to officially release the CBS Special after 30 years, so how can we expect them to provide fans with an unbiased account of Elvis' final 4 years?? :hmm:

* EPE can't even be counted on to get facts about Elvis right so if the company named after the man can't be trusted to get facts straight, who can we trust??

* Releasing something new is not a gameplan that EPE seems to take well to...I think they would much rather spend their time and efforts re-re-re-re-re-re-re-reissuing Elvis' music instead of concentrating on creating the ultimate biography!

* I am sure EPE is well aware of the glaring errors that have been put out there for many years by the various "friends", "associates", etc. that have written books, been involved with movies, etc. If EPE hasn't felt the need to set the record straight by now, what is to make us believe they have any intention of doing it anytime soon??

Sorry...I just have a real problem with the whole concept of EPE not creating "THE" end-all-be-all of biographies about their namesake!!! They almost seem to be trying to avoid the idea...at least in my opinion!! :hmm:

and Guralnick's work we are in good shape though.

Guralnick's two-volume biography is definitive.

No need for it to be written again.

You will enjoy them BradM.!! (y)

Guralnick's books should be considered essential reading for all Elvis fans, whether you are an established fan or a brand new fan!! (y)

I should have mentioned this in my previous post that these 2 books (at least for now) should be considered the closest thing to a DEFINITIVE biography on Elvis!

Ahh so am I Mike :D.

I read Jerry Hoskins book for the first time recently Elvis The Final Years and loved it. Think it was done with a good amount of respect towards Elvis' last years on earth.

So a question..what time frame is Last Train To Memphis focus on..is it from when he returns to the states in March 1960 forward?:hmm:

Last Train covers Elvis from birth until his press conference before he leaves for Germany.
Was the Final Years rewritten? When I read it, Jerry referred to Red West as Elvis' cousin in more than one chapter - a minor mistake, but one that really irritated me. I still haven't finished reading it. If there is a new edition, I'd like to check it out.

Loved these two books, but I do wish Guralnick would have written
a little more detail about the Madison Square Garden concert as he
did about the 68 Special and Aloha Special.

While there are many good books out here ;including Guralnick's.
There are too many writers that copy other biographies.
They claim to do research; but in the end you find quotes, etc. taken from other books .

I would like to see an updated Elvis Biography. From 1935 to 1977. I like too read stories we know about but not the drug stories. A filmography with more detail or photo's. A UK or USA Discography.
Why stop in 1973?

I'm not sure just who would know the "true story" of Elvis.
It really would not bother me to know what went on in his life ,even the prescription drugs. As long as it would also include what was going on in his life at the time. His failing health, the lawsuits ,his dads health ,his divorce ,etc. IMO, it all has a direct bearing on what was happening in those years as well as the end of his life .

Unfortunately we will probably NEVER know the true story of Elvis...as I mentioned earlier, we can't even get the correct facts from EPE half the time!! So, if we can't trust THEM to tell the true story of Elvis, then I'm afraid we probably can't trust anyone!!! :'(

Maybe we should form a committee from this board...make sure we have read everything, then go between the lines and put out our own version!(y)
For starters....I am nixing the idea that he weighed 350 lbs. at death.(n)

On one site I monitor for a friend; some did make up their own stories.
It was something to do as we passed the time while all read one book to discuss. ;) I can tell you; the stories turned out much better than the ones in print ; plus we had fun rewriting his history.
Some might have come closer to the truth as well. :lmfao:

Unfortunatley this is true Mike. But we can keep on studying his life and career and continue to search and read and watch films and take in as much information as possible and come up with your own conclusion of Elvis' life.(y)
