Yall, I heard that 3 Six Mafia and Elvis' duet from VLV might be comin out on 3 Six' next album this year.

Word on the streets here in the Mtown is that it's gotten rave reviews from Myspace and Youtube and 3SM wants to release it as a single.

This girl who is black that I go to school with doesn't care too much for Elvis, but she said she heard the sample on YT and loved it. She said black folks are feelin it and Elvis!!

This could be the remix that gets Elvis back on urban radio yall!

I hope this happens. It would be huge for Elvis' image in the hood!

Never mind....I will comment. In reality, I don't mind some remixed/remade stuff, however, DO NOT butcher Elvis' classic recordings, and "In The Ghetto" is a classic. It can not be improved upon.

Thanks for the link Keke23. I like some rap and hip hop so I can appreciate this mix. I like the beat they put with it and their rap lyrics as well. I don't see what all the fuss is over them using Elvis' voice or him saying "in the ghetto" in the background while they rap. I would like to hear more of it to get a better feel for the song. But I liked what little I heard.

I don't think they used 'In the Ghetto' to improve it, which would be
barely impossible ;), they just try to express that they feel they had a similar
social origin or roots. That's how I understand it.

And....I don't think if Elvis were alive that he would exactly be bowled over by 3-6 Mafia and their talent. (n)

I'm all for making the younger people happy.....but not at the expense of butchering one of the most famous and socially relevant songs ever performed by Elvis. (n)

Rosanne, three posts from you in this thread and I still have no idea whether you like the song!

Only kidding.

I think of it this way. I am not a fan of rap music, but as an Elvis fan I would prefer to hear rap music with samplings of Elvis music in it than that without it.

I can also see some fans thinking this is an unimaginative use of this classic, that it is too simple or repetitive. But that is part of the point: it's not meant to be a new presentation of the entire song.

3 Six Mafia's talent does not bowl me over either but I am not in the position of being able to judge a good rapper versus a bad one. And ultimately I don't guess that's entirely relevant.

Not to mention that this song was not done to try and appeal to Elvis fans. We are not the target audience and we don't need to approve of the product, but if it is appealing to others then it is potentially doing some good. If it's not recruiting new fans, it is probably at least earning Elvis some respect well, like keke said, in the hood. Don't forget there are still a number of people who believe Elvis was racist (not based on any evidence but on what they've been told by others who have been misinformed), and an endorsement of Elvis from these artists helps to fight that.

I say this is a good thing...same thing I thought when I saw it on the special.

There you go, picking on Roseann. ;) Just kidding.

I don't like rap of any kind. Just can never understand what they're saying.
{Different generation I guess }

Lilo and Stich was ok , as my grandkids can quickly ID Elvis on YouTube now. :P

OK...if that's the case then let me tell you what I think....

:P I think that statement speaks volumes! :lmfao::lmfao: When we can't tell a good rapper from a bad rapper that tells me a little something about what rap music is like. If you line up Elvis, Streisand and Sinatra no one ever has to say..."I don't know if that's a good singer or not.":supriced::D

P.S. I don't like the song!!

Its interesting.
In order to be officially released on an album by them I would suppose Sony/BMG would have to give the okay, then all the regular clearances would have to be got (songwriter, publishers etc) Also since it was not on the VLV release-perhaps there was a problem in that regard. Where did you hear it might be coming out on an album?

just rethinking this its good that elvis is sill considered cool enough to the other young people and artists of today but rap music is like the ramblings of a drunk person just not my thing and i like elvis music because its not like that or in thay style but each to there own

alot of the younger people like this hip hop stuff and love pure rap which isn`t really my cup of tea but however làm all for this if it attacts the younger crowds to elvis.

I'm sorry but I do not like remixes at all.

Hate it when they mess with Elvis' work, he recorded it the way he liked it and the way it sounded and would not like it at all imo to know what people are doing to his music.

Sorry, but thats just my opinion on this subject.
