Does anyone have an opinion on the following (cd) Back in Memphis? This is an import released by Camden.
Track Listings:
1. Inherit the Wind
2. This Is the Story
3. Stranger in My Own Home Town
4. Little Bit of Green
5. And the Grass Won't Pay No Mind
6. Do You Know Who I Am?
7. From a Jack to a King
8. Fair Is Moving On
9. You'll Think of Me
10. Without Love (There Is Nothing)
Just wondering if it is a worthwhile purchase (music quality, etc.) as I realize that these songs are on newer releases. Thank you in advance.

This is the "left overs" from the Elvis in Memphis LP recorded at Chip Moman's American Studios in Memphis. Some very strong tracks there which in my opinion should have been on the first album, like the brilliant " Stranger in my own home town" and "And the grass wont pay no mind" or " Inherit the wind"
If you look around you can probably get these tracks on other newer remastered albums, possiblily the Japanese 24 bit for brilliant sound. Not sure about your taste in Elvis music, but inmy opinon an essential set to have.

It's an excellent album with some GREAT songs on it....but as the others have said, you can buy some of the newer compilation albums (like SUSPICIOUS MINDS) and get these songs plus many more! (y)
However...if you don't have access to some of the newer compilations, than yes, this is a GREAT album to pick up!!

This was, and still is, a great album.
Some of these trax sound a bit dated now, but overall great production and arrangements.
If you can search and find, possibly ebay, an original copy of the 24 bit japanese remaster, you simply cannot go wrong.
The sonic quality and overall packaging is head and shoulders above it's sister release in the U.S.
Good Luck !

Hi,
I agree with most of you. "Suspicious Minds - The Memphis Anthology" is probably the best compilation from these sessions, including almost all of the songs (the many great ones and the weaker ones, too). It also features some really representing and interesting outtakes.
A real close look behind the scenes of these fabulous sessions is provided by FTD's "The Memphis Sessions" as well as on the Imports "Coming Home" and "The American Way", all of them outstanding in content and sound.
The original album was/is good but unfortunately no single from these session was included as it had been before on the "From Elvis In Memphis" album (In The Ghetto). That would have made it more interesting to all and also none Elvis Fans back then, too. In my opinion another proof of RCA's weired releasing policy...
But get it to complete your collection.

These were originally on this double album in 69:
"From Memphis to Vegas/From Vegas to Memphis" a two-album released in 1969 by RCA Records.
The first album was called "In Person at the International Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada" taped live at the International Hotel in August 1969. during some of Presley's first live stage performances since 1961. The second album carried the title "Back in Memphis" and was a sequel of sorts to "From Elvis in Memphis", it had other recordings made in early 1969 at the same studio.
Its some really great music.IMO

That double LP cost me $7.99 around Christmas in 69. Boy the dollar went a long way back then-of course I was making about $1.25 an hour.;)

HI Lisarose
I just have some info for you......Don`t think that Import is the right word for Camden. Most people use the word for bootlegs(Illegal releases, which Camden is not).....read more here

Almost in Love (1970)
You'll Never Walk Alone (1971)
C'mon Everybody (1971)
I Got Lucky (1971)
Elvis Sings Hits From His Movies, Volume 1 (1972)
Burning Love And Hits From His Movies (1972)

I never really got interested in 8-tracks, I think I only bought three and none were of Elvis.....I just kept buying all the vinyls I could find of his.
I have all the Camdens on vinyl.

Yes, it is a very solid album with many tracks that are superb.
My favorites being Inherit The Wind and This Is The Story.
I would get it if possible, should be in every fans collection IMO!
"Stranger in my own hometown" and "You'll think of me" are my favorites on this album.
"You'll Think of Me" is IMO a very inderrated song by Elvis.

I know...me too. I had quite a few on 8-track, but I think I ended up with 73 vinyl's..before his death.

Hi elvisia,
besides the albums you listed, RCA released several further albums on the camden label, especially in the UK (e.g. Easy Come, Easy Go (compilation) and also some soundtracks during the 80s (I got "Girls!Girls!Girls!" and "Kissin' Cousins" for example).
If you are a completist you can collect Camden, Pickwick and RCA International releases... by the way :)
