I use a program called Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr/) that I found very easy to use; however I, personally, haven't used it in quite a while; but a few days ago I helped my brother to use it and it was very much like I remembered it.
Here's a screenshot of the program (by the way, it's free and available for OS X 10.3+, Windows and Linux)

If I recall correctly, the source popped up automatically (the dvd drive), I left the "DVD Title" untouched, and usually the "DVD Chapters", unless there were specific chapters I only wanted ...sadly a feature to just rip a dvd by the minutes is missing.
In the destination I always chose the desktop, and had the file ending .mp4; the encoder I chose was iPod and I left all the other stuff untouched.
And then I just clicked on "Encode video" ...hope this helps, at least in one way or another

I tried to download it, it says: ".NET runtime library v2.0 or new is required. You have 1.1.4322." Is there a way to get around this?
Thank you

If you have a legal copy of Windows then I would suggest to update Windows; either by the program "Windows Update" that is on your computer, or go directly to this link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en
If not then there are users on warez sites that could possibly help, just pm me for a list of sites

Hi,
I got an ipod classic for xmas and have put many dvds on it using CucusoftDvd To Ipod Video Converter Suite. I have tried dozens and this is the easiest to use by far. You just open the dvd and click convert then it plays it on fast forward and converts it.
The program is only 7mb, if anyone knows a way to send files i will gladly send it to you. Another handy program also is DVD Decrypter which will rip stubborn dvds. You basically rip the main VOB movie file with this then run it thru the Cucusoft program. If you have msn or yahoo I can help you more on that. PM me if you like :)file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/The%20Hobgoblin.NEMESIS/Desktop/cucusoft.jpg
Pic of cucusoft running, the black window shows the film as it rips it.
