if a friend of youres asked you what 5 elvis c.d.'s they should get to start off their collection what ones would you choose
1-- sunrise, ( the music that started it all )
2-- elvis is back ( elvis back from the army proving he was still the KING )
3-- from elvis in memphis ( elvis returns to form after the movie soundtracks )
4-- all shook up, ftd ( elvis in terrific form back to live shows )
5-- elvis country ( one of the kings most underrated, albums imo )
p.s. no box -sets or double c.d.'s allowed :P

I'm afraid I'd want to introduce all of Elvis' singing styles - from rock to r&b to country to gospel, but 5 must haves?
Elvis ( the original release)
Something for Everybody
Pot Luck
His Hand in Mine
Moody Blue

What a GREAT question geordie!! (y)
That's a toughie...hmm....let's see? :hmm:
How 'bout this...
1. SUNRISE (like geordie said...gotta have the music that started it all!)
2. ELVIS - TODAY (just because it's my all time favorite Elvis album!)
3. SUSPICIOUS MINDS (some of the best music Elvis ever recorded!)
4. ULTIMATE GOSPEL (gotta have a gospel album on the list and this
is a nice mix of all 3 albums!)
5. AN AFTERNOON IN THE GARDEN (just to give people a taste of an
Elvis concert and I think it's superior to the original MSG album!)
DISCLAIMER: This list is subject to change depending on my mood!! ;)

Thanks for the compliment John, but actually this isn't me. It's just a joke photo that one of the other moderators gave me to use for a day or so as a joke between myself and a couple other members!!

Without really reading the previous posts I would say:
Elvis Presley (first release)
Elvis Is Back (to see the change in music)
The Memphis Sessions (FTD, since it is perfect)
Live From Memphis (to get an idea of his live act)
Elvis In Concert (some of his last performances, and also the fans excerpts)
Those will give a fine idea of the artist Elvis was.
And to add a little something; Elvis In Concert (the LP album album) did it for me. I heard that classic intro. That voice... and that was that.
