There were, in fact, two suits made for the shows. The [B]cape was returned to Graceland and is still on display today. The belt (presumably) is still in private hands.

Yes, I'm sure. One distinct way to tell the different belts is that there are three red stones on the top and bottom of the 1974 version of the belt. The January 14, 1973 version only had the red stones in the upper left/right and lower left/right on the belt. Not to get into a long and drawn out discussion that has already been covered here numerous times but in total, there are three (3) "Aloha Bald-Headed Eagle" suits. Two were manufactured for the "Aloha" rehearsal and main show on January 12th & 14th, respectively and there was one (1) manufactured in the later months of 1973 because of Elvis's weight gain.

The very last time Elvis wore the January 14, 1973 "Aloha Bald-Headed Eagle" suit was during the February, 1973 Las Vegas engagement.

I can't remember the exact date nor is there pictures of this engagement that I've seen anywhere.....I tried both the "Elvis In Concert" (http://www.elvis-in-concert.com) and "Elvis Presley In Concert" (http://www.elvisconcerts.com/) sites.

The belt that is at Graceland is the Third Belt. The original belt has never been seen on Elvis. It was given to Jack Lord on January 10, 1973. He order a second belt made and it arrived in time for the shows. He threw that belt into the audience and may be still in private hands. A third belt along with a third suit. Each one has different star patterns. That is the only way to tell the difference in them. As for the belts, the original two belts had as Tony said only two red stones in each corner of the buckle. There was two stars in the top middle and lower middle of the buckle. The third belt had red stones to replace the two stars.

dennyelvis - The cape came back to graceland and not the belt. The cape you see on display is the second cape made for the suit which he threw into the audience. The original cape was a long cape and Elvis never wore it because it was too heavy. The long cape was displayed at Graceland for a while until it was sold back in the 90s.

The person who originally caught the belt probably no longer has it but my guess is that it's still in private hands.....

A man named Andrew Kearn had the cape. When he passed away his family donated the cape to EPE.

Thanks! (y) I wonder how much the original owner got for it when he sold it to Andrew Kearn? And...what a nice gesture that the Kearn family donated it back to Graceland! :D

Here's the full story of the return of the cape that appeared in the Winter 1995 issue of "Elvis International Forum" magazine:

On January 14, 1973 for a few brief moments, a beautiful american eagle with wings outstretched soared through the air and landed int he arms of Bruce Spinks, a sportswriter for the Honolulu Star Advertiser. The eagle, a symbol of Elvis's love for his country, was the focal point of the beautiful cape made especially for the Kui Lee Aloha concert in Hawaii. The eagle was to travel many miles before coming home again.

Back in the mid-60s a young boy accompanied his father to Las Vegas. While there, he saw Elvis filming the movie, "Viva Las Vegas".

Over the years they would return may times to Las Vegas and he would see every show of Elvis's each time. His love and respect for Elvis grew and would become a major part of his life and his greatest love. A collection of memorabilia began that would ultimately rival any by a fan. The young boy's name was Andrew (Andy) Kern.

Over the years, through his mail order company (Elvis Unlimited) in Houston, Texas and then later in a move to Miami, Florida, the collection continued to grow. His father felt that the thousands of dollars he spent were wasted and could be put to better use, but young Andy would not be dissuaded. Hearing of the Aloha cape, he contacted Mr. Spinks and arranged to buy it from him for $3,250.00. The eagle cape would remain unseen by the public for the next 21 years.

In 1994, having been diagnosed with colon cancer, Andy (now a young man of 41 years) contacted well-known collector specialist Jerry Osborne for consultation on what to do with his collection after his death. He was most adamant that he didn't want the cape sold but he didn't have any real idea what to do with it. By this time, Andrew had become a very wealthy man (a stockbroker) and really didn't need the money for it. No decision was made at the time. he requested that the collection be sold at auction and %65 of the monies distributed to an Elvis-related charity of Jerry's choice.

In May 1995, Jerry was contacted by Andy's father, Herman Kern, and given the sad news of Andy's passing. Now plans must be made to put Andy's wishes into motion. It was decided that the collection-which was massive by this time-should be shipped to Memphis and a sale/auction would be held during Elvis Week in August.

On July 27, 1995 Jerry called Todd Morgan at Graceland and asked they "Would be interested in the Aloha cape?" I'm sure Todd was glad he was sitting down because he had to be shocked. They had known for a long time where the cape was and previous efforts to obtain it had met with failure. Also, knowing that Andy had been offered $150,000.00 for it by another collector, Todd no doubt expected an exorbitant price tag. Jerry said, "I'm going to use a word that you'll like, Todd. Do you like the word "donate"? Several seconds passed and Jerry went on to request a few things that Mr. Kern had requested: First-the cape was to be displayed with a commemorative plaque indicating it was Andrew's donation; Second-a donation($1,000.00) to the Trauma Center for a Wall of Honor Plaque in Andy's name; and a contribution ($5,000.00) to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. All of the above was agreed upon and Todd was ecstatic!!

Todd returned with the cape to Graceland and it was put on immediate display-within about two days-along with the plaque where thousands of visitors will be able to enjoy Andy's generosity and love for Elvis.

There is many possibilites on the whereabouts of the second Aloha belt.

1. It is still in private hands and doesn't want to be famous themselves because they own the belt that Elvis threw out into the audience and that is why we haven't seen it yet.
2. The belt got destory over time and doesn't exist anymore and that is why we haven't seen it.
3. If it is still in private hands then the owner may think that EPE would take back the belt which they won't because Elvis gave them or their friend or family member that belt and would let them keep it.

You decide!

I can only hope that option #2 is not what has happened to it.

I hope so too. But you have to considered that. It very may well been destory over time by:
1. not taking good care of it.
2. natural disaster (tornado, fire, flood, or any of the other possibilities)
3. owner was robbed and belt was stolen and the robber didn't know what they had and destory it by accident.

and the list goes on. But I hope that isn't what happen to it. I hope that it is in private hands and that the owner doesn't want to be known.

I'd read somewhere that the lady in front who fought for the belt at the Aloha show was Jack Lord's daughter, but I don't know if he had a daughter. Then I read that Ed Parker acquired the belt and his family still has it.
