Me, i have always prefered the alt. Takes. Probly because it's something you don't hear that often and plus you can hear him talking and messing around.
What do you prefer :hmm: ??

I agree, the original versions were picked because they were considered to be the overall best take Elvis did of that particular song-but the Alt-Takes offer the fun and sometimes much more raw and daring attempts which I like also. So I have to go 50/50 on this question.

I like both, but the alternate taked i love to hear, especially the versions where he's cutting up or even cursing. He shows that he messes up just like a "average person", and because he was a perfectionist. He did countless takes of certain songs,i like those too. but when he finally got the song right it was pure magic.

I also prefer Alternate Takes! (y) (y) I love his other songs too of course, but Alternate Takes are sometimes really very special. I have some Alternate Takes in which you can hear Elvis' voice without background chorus, they are so amazing and magical. Hearing only his voice without chorus is a really great experience, I shiver with cold when I listen these versions (although I have already known the songs before of course). I am really glad that he made these versions. :notworthy :notworthy

I like both. Depends on my mood.
Sometimes I just want the concert music.
But, I love the alt.takes as I enjoy hearing him laugh and have fun.

A man from Hawaii sent me all of alt. takes and I didn't even know him!!
I thought that was great and just shows how an Elvis friend is.

I prefer outtakes... they show us Elvis at his purest, live in the studio. No overdubs, no weird mixing. And it also gives us an insight of his abilities to make other people's creations his own.

Also went for alternates. Of course because they offer us diff'rent versions, but also because most of the time the sound quality is very good as well.

I like the alt. takes the best. It's like hearing Elvis the person instead of Elvis "The King of Rock and Roll"

Have to say both, kind of varies from song to song for me.I love hearing Elvis have a laugh and a good time at the recording sessions...and sometimes the alternate takes add something new to the way you see the song.......The undubbed, sparse versions of "In the ghetto" spring to mind.

I have to agree- for me it depends on my mood- sometimes I want it straight up- then are those times I just want to hear what it was like when he was goofing off or working out the kinks to get a song just the way he wanted it. I did vote for the alt takes however!::doh:

Of course I love the alternate takes, but the MASTER takes are the ones that I first heard and made me an Elvis fan to begin with.

I could never grow tired of hearing them, EVER !!!

I will mention, that a few of the alternates available, thru FTD and regular mainstream BMG releases that I like/love just as much or more as Master recordings are as follows:

1) Treat Me Nice (Binaural First Movie Version)
2) I Got Stung (Take 18)
3) Too Much Monkey Business (Take 9)
4) Mystery Train/Tiger Man (Collector's Gold)
5) Promised Land (Take 2 and 5)
6) Hurt (Take 6)
7) I Got A Feelin' In My Body (Take 1 and 7)
8) T-R-O-U-B-L-E (Take 1)

Just too name a few ...

There are many more ! :)

I have to say that the alternate takes are cool to listen to for many reasons! I love hearing Elvis working out a song, plus it is the PURE Elvis...no overdubs, remixing, etc.

Plus I think Elvis had an amazing sense of humor and that comes through a lot in the alternate takes! (y)

I love them both, but I voted alt. takes because I really love to hear him laugh and have fun. And I also love to hear only his voice without the backup band and when he is working with the songs.
