View Full Version : Elvis' moves?

I heard that his moves were due to stress...In his first live performances, he was so nervous his legs would shake and he would snarl and couldn't help it. Then he keep doing it, but deliberately when he realized people loved his moves :)
Is it true?? this is what they said in a documentary (called 'Elvis, from beginning to end') and I had never heard this before...

I would think that is mostly true. I can see the leg shaking being from nervousness....but I think the rest of it was his natural talent...moving to the beat....and boy did he move good!!! (drooling here....)

You are correct Rover! In several interviews with Elvis, he often said that his moves were from a combination of nervousness and the way the music made him feel.

But during one of his early performances, once he realized that his stage movements were causing all of the commotion, he kept doing it!! (y)

I have read that before too.
But him shaking his leg, i didn't think it was nervousness because i know that Lisa does that too.
But perhaps it was...:hmm:

Maybe it's an inherited trait then... :hmm:

That may mean that I am somehow related to Elvis since my leg shakes like his did all the time when I am listening to his music!!! ;)

Whatever caused his legs to shake it blended in so well with his voice and looks that it caused him to be the singing sensation of the time and the King forever....so worked for me!:)

I agree, Diane. Whatever the reason for his moves, it was great watching him!(y) But I think it was so natural for him.

I think so too Liana and that's why no one else can master it just the way he did it.

Hi...

There's one interview in 1956 (and others too, but that's the one I remember the must). My mind is kind of slow, so can't recall it perfectly, but I remember a quote when Elvis says, more or less this: "I can't help moving, is a natural reaction of my body to the music I play".

He also declared a couple of times, and you may find part of those interviews is in the Elvis 56, Elvis On Tour and Elvis: his best performances documentaries, and a disc that has his earlier interviews (hope someone here knows the name of that disc, 'cause I actually don't have it... only listened to it once :hmm: ).

His nervousness brought out his talent so we can say that he was so nervous that he became a legend. :)

Elvis said one time when he first went in front of an audience his legs shook so bad.he came off stage, and the crowd went wild,he said "what did i do"? Someone(Colonel)said i don't know but do it again.Ha ha, a legend was born.

He also once said it was due to nerves....said something to the effect (I'll have to relisten to it to get exact quote LOL)...it was me, a guitar and my shaky leg---and my other shaky leg. :D

Whether nerves or not, he had the talent to back everything he did up, from his moves to his incredible voice! He did not earn the name "King of Rock 'n' Roll" for notta. :D:D:D:D And he is still shaking us up all these decades later. :D
