Hi, my husband bought me the 3 DVD set for Christmas of 25th Anniversary and then 2 DVD's about his Gospel side.....have any of you seen this? I watched the 1st DVD today and let me tell you - it had me in tears. I love that side of him. It had interviews with all the gospel singers he's sang with and worked with and they were telling stories about staying up all night and just singing Gospel with Elvis - that Elvis really, really enjoyed this. I love hearing this side of him......more so than the other side.

Have any of you discussed the relationship between Elvis and J.D. Sumner? I was watching them interview him today on the DVD and he was saying how Elvis used to come to their monthly gospel get together's when he was younger and one month Elvis missed - so the next month when Elvis showed up J.D. asked him where he was last month - Elvis said - "I didn't have enough money to get in".....J.D. says he told Elvis from that point on he didn't need any money - just get him and he'd let him in the back door. So they've known each other for years and years before Elvis hit it big. J.D. joked that then Elvis became so famous that Elvis had to let J.D. in the back door.

I just think their relationship was very sweet from a young man thru Elvis' death.

I'm very sentimental today....watching the Gospel DVD and it being Elvis birthday on Tuesday.....making me a blithering mess.....lol.....just wondering what your thoughs are?

Good Evening my friend! I loved the way Elvis sang it. I think it meant a lot to him. I think he understood the music. By that I mean; understood that it went to the depth of peoples being, that it is way a sort of therapy to sing it, that it was a way on honoring something greater than we are.

I agree Missy...Tony Brown (who was in the group VOICE) said that during one show a whole long row of teenagers were there with a long banner that read, "Elvis You Are The King" and at a perfect moment they all stood up with the banner and yelled - Elvis looked up and said, "There is only one King - Jesus Christ" and went back on with his show. I know we've heard this before.....I just wish he'd have gotten more into gospel, maybe it would have helped him with his inner demons....

Maybe so Simms, I think sometimes and I could be wrong that Gellar lead him down to confusing of a path instead of him just sticking with the basic truths he learned as a child.

Yes, Kelly, yes, yes, yes. It is absolutely the best. To hear all the people who knew him talk about him is so great. I don't remember who said that Elvis singing gospel was his way of worshiping since he couldn't go to church. I never get tired of watching this DVD set.

The PBS station in our area runs the DVD's all the time selling them as a way to get new members and stay on the air. They also do the 25th Anniversary. Can't wait for the 30th Anniversary to come out on DVD.

Y Can't wait for the 30th Anniversary to come out on DVD.

I have a feeling we won't be seeing the 30th anniversary concert on DVD any time soon...look how long it took them to release the 25th anniversary show....

Kelly....what is the gospel DVD called? I have a couple of VHS tapes about the gospel side, I was wondering if this is one and the same. On the EOT outtakes Elvis talks about having known JD since he was a young teenager. I think it was evident that there was alot of genuine affection between the 2 of them...(y)

Then I started watching Elvis By The Presley's last night on DVD......got my husband to help me hang my 2 Elvis posters in my room - plus 2 tin signs plus a really heavy metal sign and he had bought me an Elvis throw blanket - which he hung on my wall for me too.......I'm just Elvis crazy!!

Kelly, on your list of tin signs, I have "B" and "E". The other set I have I love even more and they are on the style of "I" the one with Elvis on the "king" playing card...very beautiful colours. I got mine at eBay if you're interested in looking over there. It's a gorgeous set and I love it.

Have fun watching the 2nd disc tonight and keep the kleenex handy.

The DVD set 'He Touched Me' is responsible for me becoming an
Elvis fan :D. He touched me in the true sense of the word while
watching it. I just love The Gospel Side of Elvis, I believe this was
his true love. I have seen The Imperials twice and luckily will see them
again in April. When they sing 'He Touched Me'....it gives you goose bumps
and you can get a glimpse of how great these gospel sessions must have
been with Elvis....(y).

Have any of you read "Last Train To Memphis"? It is about Elvis growing up and becoming famous and is a very detailed book. It speaks of the huge influence that gospel music had on him. It follows him from birth to his induction in the army.
It is my belief that every Elvis lover must read this book and the follow -up book "Careless Love", which follows him from the army to the end of his life, to get a real sense of who and what he really was.
And now I am going to ebay and see if I can locate one of these DVD's that ya'll are talking about!!
