What was Elvis' weight here? The pic was taken in April 1972 in Jax, Florida. Also when did Elvis start getting in shape for Aloha? How long did it take him to get in shape? He must have lost the weight rather quickly.

I know that in June of 72 he was thinner than this.....I think he always had the ability to put weight on and take weight off rather quickly.

I think that when crouched down and leaning forward like that, regardless of at what point in his career, you are going to see some belly. If he was standing up straight I wonder if the same question would be asked.
He doesn't appear bloated in the face, for whatever that's worth..
But regardless, by November '72 he definitely did have some weight to lose for Aloha. I would be interested to know exactly how much that was.

I would say in November of 72, he most likely weighed between 185-190, because he lost 25 lbs. for the Aloha and weighed 165 lbs! Just to add to this, in the above photo, he had his gold attendance belt on that he received from the International in 1969, and we all know how rake thin he was during this time.

As with the comments that Bobby made earlier in the thread, the position Elvis is in with that photo makes Elvis look overweight!
Other pictures from the same show (16th April) give a more realistic view.
I would also like to point out that Elvis wore the Pyramid Jumpsuit in Vegas in Possibly July/Aug as the picture below shows with the curtain; so his weight for the most part had to be reasonably stable throughout 1972

I agree with your post, Elvis looked pretty good on the 18th Nov 1972 but would he have been as heavy as 190 lbs :hmm:

this is no joke: one time I was watching TTWII and a buddy of mine entered the room. He saw Elvis and said "Ain't this from his later years? He's already fat here"..
Elvis (like Vernon) always had a bit of a puffy face (no hard lines for the cheekbones). But it's stunning that people consider Elvis heavy/overweight on TTWII, On Tour or The Aloha. His weight was fantastic for his height, and very few people from his age might have managed to get/stay in that shape.
Even in 1974 Elvis was able to loose weight before a tour. You can see that from 1975 on he didn't manage to loose the extra weight that he gained when he was off from touring.
Elvis had a extremely bad way of dieting: consuming very little water and food over a period of time, exhausting his body.

I have to say -- I don't know how anyone can look at Elvis in TTWII, and think he's at all overweight. That's just bizarre. On Tour, okay. But not TTWII. But then I've seen a comment on another message board that Elvis was fat in Loving You, so I guess it's not the strangest thing I've ever heard.
Elvis had kind of a baby face with full cheeks when he was young, but I thought he'd lost it by 68. It's why I think he looked the best from 68 to 72.

He did have a face like Vernon's, but when Elvis smiled he had those fabulous high cheekbones. (y)(y)

I have a couple of questions if somebody does not mind answering for me, first is how much did Elvis' jumpsuits with capes weigh on average and if they were heavy he must have lost a lot of weight during the show. How much did he lose after every show?

And you call this guy a "buddy" ??? LOL
You should make him get down and give you 50 on his knuckles :!:
Seriously, how anyone can look at Elvis in '70 and say he's "Fat" is just plain ignorant.
In the pic from up above in Jacksonville, Florida, Elvis weighed no more than what he did, in say, "Clambake", in 1967. He actually looks pretty great, considering that unorthodox movement and positioning he is doing.
As far as I know, Elvis dieted close to 2 months before "Aloha".
He did some excercise, took diet pills, tanned and watched what he ate.
Too bad he strayed from that path the evening after ALOHA ...

I have heard that some of the more ornate suits with capes could weigh upto 20Ibs although I'm sure that Leroy would probably know better (y)

Unfortunately, people starved themselves when dieting back then Albert. This was before low-fat this, low-fat that, and before we became so educated on what we can and cannot eat. It was like have a salad, drink tab pop, ( yuk! ) and water. Problem was, energy wise it was a real struggle because of the lack of food, thus doctors were giving patients speed, ( dexedrine to be exact ) to give people that boost. It's tough enough now to diet properly, years ago it was brutal! Elvis, like most of us, battled his weight for most of his adult life.

Yes, I know, it's insane.... but hey, how can you call a non-Elvis fan sane anyway :lmfao:
If oy look at pics from 1974, he looked extremely healthy (weight-wise) during a long period of that year. Many times just plain slim, sometimes just a (normal) belly. But that of course, was also the year that he did a lot of karate. Even during the bad period (september/oktober 1974) he still didn't gained a lot of weight.

It was bad wasn't it! I remember being in school in the seventies, and this girl I had a crush on, said that if I lost weight, she would go out with me. There I was, in the school gym every night, running, with a garbage bag covering my chest and stomach, which was supposedly a good way to lose weight because of the sweat factor. Needless to say, I never ended up going out with her!

:lol: Good story Joe! Remember, in the 70's we only cared about how we looked in our clothes, not out of our clothes. I guess the whole working out stuff started in the early 80's..:hmm: I like to look back in my yearbooks from HS and College and look at the hair-do's we all had! :D:D And, yes, Tab was terrible...we thought Diet Pepsi was a HUGE step forward.

Hire it out on DVD and give it a go.
The final series is showing now (during summer non-ratings period, three years after it ended in the States!) here in Australia. But it's not the same since lead character Eric Forman left (like when Richie Cunningham left Happy Days ... the magic was gone).

OK...will do, thanks. My kids could never understand why I wasn't watching it either since it was set in my time. They said it was great..(y) And, yes....Richie Cunningham WAS "Happy Days."

I don't understand why weight was an issue with Elvis. He always had a slightly puffy look to him, cept in some of the movies. In the 30s and 40s celebrities were allowed to age and look different but it seems like when it came to Elvis they poked at every ounce he put on.
I saw reviews about Paradise Hawain Style in 1966 saying, Elvis looked overweight. What ever happened to men looking like men, they wanted men to have that super model feminine look. I think Elvis didn't care at times cause he did what he wanted to do but the record and movie execs would get on him to lose weight.

Elvis was not a big man, so when he put on 10 or 15 lbs. it showed in his face and stomach. Had it been today, with the scrutiny that high profile people are under, he would have had no choice but to keep fit all of the time. I remember as a kid, athletes would not work out during the off-season, thus they would come into training camp, 20 to 30 lbs. overweight. Those days are over, now they stay incredibly fit year round, as they have no choice given the stakes involved. Elvis adopted that same mentality back then, as did others, lose weight before a movie or concert tour began, kind of enjoy down time as a reward for the fruits of his labor. As he got older, it reversed itself his last few years, he would lose weight as a tour progressed, since he was no longer working out.

No problem. Today, the competition is not only fierce, it's world-wide! These people to their credit stay in magnificent shape. But they also have great trainers, better and healthier food, vitamins and other things that certainly help. Bottom line is, if not motivated, all the great help means squat, ultimately, it's up to the individual.

Maybe it couldn't be seen on his face how slim he really was, because of his hairstyle and his big sideburns. But he was slim for sure! I remember the producer said in the werkfilm that he had 32 inch waist.
