How to get access to Elvis' bedroom at Graceland
Access to EP's bedroom is very high security. The only two people that have unlimited access is Pricilla, and Lisa. NO ONE ELSE.
Jack Soden, Angie Marchese (Archives Manager), the two that you would think have access, have to get permission, in writing, from either Lisa or Priscilla.
Here are the procedures to getting in EP's bedroom, as laid out to me by Angie:
1. Written memo to Jack Soden as to the reason for needing access with an approximate time needed in the room.
2. Memo is approved by Soden, and forwarded to either Priscilla's, or Lisa's reps.
3. Approved or disapproved by either, and sent back to Soden.
4. If approved Soden will retrieve the keys from Graceland Vault area. The door has two combos. One Soden has, and the other is the head of Graceland security (not affiliated with their uniformed guards.)
5. The persons, or persons approved to enter the bedroom are checked for cameras, and have listed on a memo pad, what they are bringing up, or from the room. If photos of an item in the room are made, then each photo is accounted for, and stored by Soden while the process is on.
6. Soden, or one of his security will escort the rep, usually Angie Marchese to the upstairs area and open the two locked doors.
7. The time Angie is in the room is timed, and documented.
As you can see getting access to the upstairs is, as Angie stated "an act of Congress." The upstairs carpet, and such is still the same, but most of the items (clothing, jewellery, perishables) have been removed inventoried, and stored.
Lisa does not stay in the room, her room is still there, but of course more update to her likings. She and Nicolas did not stay in the house, however there was a huge party there in Feb 2001. I saw the limos personally, and heard all the loud music, the scene was unreal! Lisa, and her mom can do what they please up there, and often do, and yes Lisa has had many visitors in her dads room.

LOL well I guess that leaves almost everybody out. Sounds like Fort Knox.

I have several questions:

and yes Lisa has had many visitors in her dad’s room.
:'( but not me
5. The persons, or persons approved to enter the bedroom are checked for cameras, and have listed on a memo pad [...] If photos of an item in the room are made, then each photo is accounted for, and stored by Soden while the process is on. - I'm guessing their faces are photographed and scribbled on a memo note their names? And I assume that the second one means that Jack Soden accompanies the one/ones that go upstairs?
7. The time Angie is in the room is timed, and documented. - that applies to others, right? And someone must then be up there timing that person and documenting it - propably Soden?
The upstairs carpet, and such is still the same, but most of the items (clothing, jewellery, perishables) have been removed inventoried, and stored. - who does the dusting and cleaning up there?
Lisa does not stay in the room, her room is still there, but of course more update to her likings. - why, if she hardly or ever stays there?
She and Nicolas did not stay in the house - so he didn't sleep in the King's bed?
And on Elvisinfonet it states that their source is the FECC forum, but I couldn't find a thread there about that, hopefully someone can please point me to it?

- so (Nic) didn't sleep in the King's bed?
I don't think anyone said he did.
The story goes he was allowed to lay on it.

Aah, well, when rumours are thrown around the truth gets messed up :P Has he ever spoken about this? Frankly, the rumours go through one ear and out the other - and the few things that stick there (very few) usually get mixed up ;)
However, it doesn't seem to me to be quite the Fort Knox that they are trying to paint it, according to the first two quotes that I compared; however "many" is a subjective size

Thank you for the info; and boy, would I love to know who does the dusting up there :hmm:

Thanks, Jen. And I don't blame her. It's her house, her dad and she can do what she wants. I'd feel the same and probably wouldn't be as nice as she is about some things.

As far as I'm concerned there's no need for anyone else to go up there. Fans don't always respect their idol you know. I've heard of many who have disfigured walls etc. downstairs just to have a "memento" to take home. Can you imagine the damage if people were allowed upstairs too? Betcha tiles would be missing from the bathroom for one.....

You should see what people have done to James Deans grave Marker. He's on the 4th now, one was stolen and never found, two others have been chipped to pieces from folks looking to take something with them . The Current one was stolen but abandoned up the road and returned by the authorities who claim its now theft proof but its getting all chipped up too.

The excessive controls over the bedroom create the demand to see it!
I'm certain that most information out there is disinformation just to keep up the myth, isn't Elvis' bed on display somewhere else in the mansion?
I'm certain that other threads have said that upstairs is just a store room??

Even if you're a journalist, you still wouldn't get to see the upstairs....

didn't Oprah get upstairs? but then she was with Lisa, sorry my memory fails me.
this is completely excessive, i can understand being strict with tourists, but employees? and then i remember reading about Elvis finding fans swimming in his pool and merely telling them to be careful! what a difference several decades make.

Oprahīs a close relative?
Ya....im sure you can make most people a relative if you try hard enough.
Suffice to say Elvis didnīt know who she is and Lisa or Priscilla wouldenīt care if she wasnt so famous.

Oprah didn't go upstairs. She was taken to a secret archive room at Graceland (somewhere there on the grounds) and got the chance to see some stuff of Elvis's that hadn't been seen in public.

I agree...I think the "Oprah being a cousin" bit has worn out it's welcome.

That's where she said she is a relative, a cousin or whatever....

Someone just did a geneology on Elvis ,can't remember her name.
She said Oprah and Elvis were not related ; as she traced back and none of the Presleys ever had slaves. {that was how they were supposed to be related}
I don't think Elvis would have cared though.

Well...he wasnt one to court the stars and its well known he disliked the Hollywood scene.
Seeing as hes dead and never met Oprah or knew who she was we wonīt know the answer...but we can specualte that it would be out of character for him to do it. You can read about it in books and maybe speak to people who knew him and come to the conclusion that it would be unlikely.
