I totally agree with you. 1969-1970. Although each of the years following were unique and in a way the best, imo.

Yup Rosanne, in '69 and '70 (TTWII) were definitely his best years. As a second (or third), I would have loved to have seen him in 1975 even though he'd gained weight, his face and body were fuller but healthy looking and in all the photos of him he looked like he was having a great time.

I was fortunate enough to see him 10 times from August of 71 to December of 76.....he looked great in 73 as well, around the time of AFH. (y)(y)

I would pick ...1970. It was the first time I saw ELVIS in person so may be of some influence on me (be still my heart). :D My favorite year(s) for ELVIS :newyear: were 68, 69, 70, 71.

1969. I adore the songs from the 1969 sessions.
I'd say its a tie for me. 1956, and 1969 when he started playing live again. Two different Elvis's in amazing form as a performer both at the top of their game .
Most performers are short lived , but Elvis lasted so long he rose to the top twice and that second time in 69 reminded us why they started calling him King the first time around.

He was simply beautiful in the 68 Comeback Special, but he looked also gorgeous in 1969 and in 1970 in 'That's The Way It Is'!! I think he was in his top physical shape in that film. And he also looked great in 'Aloha From Hawaii' in 1973. (y) (y) (y)

To me it's 1968 to 70 and 1971 was good one. little stuff from that year is release, most recording that time are christmas stuff and gospel

I'd have to say a tie between 56 and 69. I'd give the edge to 56 because it was the year he exploded worldwide.

For me it would be 1972-1973, The footage shows Captain Marvel at his best. The press conference before MSG, MSG itself, EOT and concluding with Aloha from Hawaii ~ the time when he was more "the" king of R&R than at any other time.

It`s either `56 or `69......Give me another ten years to decide...I`m nearly there!

Faves:
1954: Hearing that voice with no BS. Pure, unbridled talent -- the best of its time for all time. This was the year before the world swallowed Elvis and it's an absolute joy to think about.
1960: The earlier voice with polish and sparkle. Sensuous, sublime, knows what it wants and delivers. Elvis delivered superior singing (and very strong albums) in the form of "G.I. Blues", "Elvis is Back" and "His Hand in Mine". He looked outstanding, too.
1968: Just has to be included for the "Comeback Special". A flawless blues voice with a flawless looking owner.
1970: Elvis' country album is subtitled: "I'm 10,000 Years Old". Indeed, his voice on this one reminds me of the Earth, somehow. The combination of singer and material is perfect. He looked like an Adonis this year, too. Fantastic stage presence.

Good observations and totally agree (y) I would like to add the Memphis Sessions FTD, his voice on the undubbed versions of "Suspicious Minds" & "In The Ghetto" are just awesome (the whole album is!)
