View Full Version : Elvis and Maggie Smith-according to Marty "I was there" Lacker

EP75

This all goes against what Nancy Rooks wrote in her book about a beautiful black girl who EP dated that worked for him named Maggie. Marty calls her a "maid". But she's only been known as a "receptionist" which is not a maid by any means necessary. Sounds to me by Lacker's remarks that he didn't particularly like her for some reason. Makes you wonder about what really went on around Graceland and what really didn't.:hmm:

Here's what Marty replied to at Alt-King. For some reason I feel that he's hiding something.:hmm:

> Marty, or someone else who might know,

> What's the story on Maggie Smith?
> She allegedly was a college student hired as a maid at Graceland, but
what's
> the rest of the story on her?
> According to Guralnick, Elvis bought her and her mother a car in 1974, and
> after he gave them the car (a car that she and her mother were thinking of
> buying for themselves) he hired her as a maid. And some days after the
> hiring, according to Guralnick, he bought her another car to have on her
own
> to commute to school. She was still at Graceland in 1977.
> Is that the whole story, or is there more to it? Thanks,
> --
> T.

That's it. She was just one of those persons that Elvis felt sorry for when
he met them by chance. They didn't have much and he liked the fact that she
was very dilligent about going to school.

She basically sat in the kitchen and did her homework which is what Elvis
told her to do. There was nothing romantic going on. She was not that
attractive. When she finished her homework she did little things around the
house that the maids asked her to.

Actually we hardly knew she was there.

Why are you bashing Lacker with the "I was there" comment?

Personally, I'd rather trust his perceptions than Rooks' any day.

Lacker has never made that claim about himself, nor have any other members of the MM (despite what the naysayers and MM bashers would have you believe). You are putting words into his mouth that shouldn't be there.

Lacker was one of the best men at Elvis' wedding, remember.

does this subject matter really matter? I thought nancy's book was really good. I like the MM. Obviously not everyone knew what was going on in Elvis' mind - they can only speculate sometimes. I don't think this subject matter is important enough to start an argument over - do you? Where is Maggie now? Has she ever said her side?

It's possible Lacjer was merely correcting those that tended to embelish their stories.Sandi Miller had some great times and awesome memories of Elvis. She is best described as a great fan who got lucky enough to meet Elvis several times. However her relationship with Elvis was light years from Lacker's.Lacker was one of the boys.A true insider.Miller never got anywhere close to that. She was part of a group of fans that hung around.

And some of yall "so-called" fans support these *****s.

Nancy does say in her book that he dated Maggie, but she claims Maggie was killed in a fight as well.

Maggie aint dead. She lives here in Memphis, lol.

She just don't want the media coverage and pressures that would follow her everyday life, as some crave it, like the MM.

Plus, Elvis' nurse even said he was close to Maggie as well and befriended her.

She said Maggie would go to Graceland and do her homework and used Elvis' office, not his kitchen, lol

This is why I hate the mafia......a bunch of southern redneck racists who give Elvis a bad rep.(n)(n)(n)

I've got to agree with meg and jen on this one.
There's several people that were in Elvis' life that a few of the MM remember but won't recognize. Then there's others that do.
Marty is just one of the negative ones. I wouldn't believe anything he says.

I'm not sure what this has to with Maggie though.
What was this post for to begin with?

Has anyone ever wondered why Jerry Schilling was never really included in the Memphis Mafia gatherings during and after EP's life? Take a look at his first wife and then look at who was his second? In fact they refused to go to the second wedding of a certain Sweet Inspiration. Lakeisha hit it on the head when she said the racists comment. They have proven that very completely over the years. Why do you think blacks dislike EP so much? Because of the comments made by the mafia over the years, just like the one Marty "I was there" Lacker made. Any yet fans think their word is the gospel. Did the fans forget that those same guys are the ones who sold EP out just before he died?:hmm:

I don't seem to recall anything in particular that made EP and the MM racists. Just because he didn't show up to Jerry's weddings. So what? Did he go to all weddings of each and every member of his group? Also, what was Jerry doing at the time he got married? Was he working for Elvis or out in California working and maybe it was not convenient for him to go? Elvis and Myrna were very close - just ask her - so it has nothing to do with race as far as Elvis goes.

I;m not saying she played a big part in his life. None of us know. And just because Marty "I was there" Lacker says it doesn't make it accurate as he lied about things in Elvis-What Happened. But to give Maggie her respect-she has stated in Careless Love that he was wonderful to her and she knew he wasn't a racist even though some blacks thought he was and that he treated her more like a daughter than an employer. So that would mean he cared for her deeply and gave her daughter like attention instead of just being his maid as Lacker put it. Here's another thing-Marty wasn't around in the final year. Maggie was there the night he died. So how could he know what went on between them if anything? I rest my case.:D

I don't recall ever reading about a Maggie. But she obviously(from all the posts I read) was somehow associated with Elvis-what that association was in truth looks like its in the "never know for sure" column. A lot of Elvis's life seems to end up in the "never know for sure" column. Once again its who do you believe, who might lie, who might exaggerate...etc.
Then if you think someone lies or exaggerates you have to ask-why and for what purpose. No matter how close the cook, Lacker, or any of the others were-they can't each know it all.
Unless they somehow saw thru Elvis's eyes they can't understand it all- as he did either.

Very well said.(y)

I don't seem to recall anything in particular that made EP and the MM racists. Just because he didn't show up to Jerry's weddings. So what? Did he go to all weddings of each and every member of his group? Also, what was Jerry doing at the time he got married? Was he working for Elvis or out in California working and maybe it was not convenient for him to go? Elvis and Myrna were very close - just ask her - so it has nothing to do with race as far as Elvis goes.
Elvis gave his blessing to Jerry as far as Myrna Smith was concerned. The Sweet Inspirations became the first group signed to a new company called Jerry Schilling Management. Jerry actually married Myrna in 1980, so I think it would have been a little difficult for Elvis to attend the wedding.;);)

It's fact buddy. Look it up. Or better still ask Myrna. She said it herself. They refused to support Jerry marrying outside of his race after EP died. It's a fact. Priscilla and Lisa Marie were there and Lisa was flower girl at myrna and Jerry's wedding. They got married in 1982. EP held Jerry's first wedding at Graceland in 1966 in the Meditation Garden when he married his first wife Sandy who he met on the set of Paradise Hawaiian Style. She wasn't caucasian either. She was Filipino.

Here's something a lot of fans don't know. EP allowed only a few select to take Lisa Marie out iof his site without his permission. Aong them were Linda, and Myrna. Marty wasn't one of them.:D

Well I will give my little two cents worth here. Jerry in his own book says he and Myrna were married in 1980 right? In the interview with Myrna it's a case of "he says she said".....guess which one I tend to believe?:D

Jerry attended any MM gatherings while Elvis was alive, as they all did. The group scattered after his death. They all have their little clicks. To accuse any of them of being racist against Jerry is ludicrious.
"sold him out" just before he died? we have a very different opinion on this matter....

EXACTLY.

This thread was only started as another lame attempt by Jay to prove to the entire Elvis world that he dated black women. Who cares? This has been an obsession of his for years, and it never turns out pleasantly.

Jay and Lakeisha even went to the ends of the earth to prove Myrna had an intimate relationship with Elvis EVEN AFTER SHE SAID IN AN INTERVIEW THAT THEY HAD NOT. When they are called out on these subjects, their only out is to resort to calling people racist and that we are "showing our true colors".
That truly was "WELL SAID." (y)(y)

who else Jen? he privately sent threatening messages to others over this. He was very nasty and instigating and when others disagreed with him, he got worse. We tried telling him what was in jerry's book - but he pretty much called us liars. Is that right for him to do?

Disagreeing is one thing -but being nasty, and then threatening is totally another. (sorry we disagree on this point Jen...nothing personal you know, right?)

Ordinarily Kelly I would agree with you on Jerry being wrong about his wedding date (the man thing :D) but not in this case because it takes a while to write a book and I'm sure he talked about it with others and if he hadn't caught his own mistake, someone else may have pointed it out to him. I could still be wrong lol.

I got the idea also Diane that this book was very professionally done. I'm pretty sure also that the publisher sent him out on some sort of a book tour, so that makes me think they would have caught something like that if it were not true.

sometimes Jen, when the others are being nasty and hateful and calling you an outright liar and/or racist - you have to take up for yourself. I always try and watch what I say - but sometimes the others involved in that particular thread make it hard to do so. But I completely agree bickering needs to stop.

can I ask, what is "bricking"? Is that a canadian term or something? Not sure I've ever heard that before - I hear other terms on here from other countries that are new to me as well.

Well, if that is the case, then I certainly don't doubt all the frustration and vile behaviour on this board as of late ...

He seems to raise hell everywhere he goes, he even called me a racist and other rude names on the 30 #1 Hits forum, then tries desperately to backpeddle his way out of the circle of hate and dust he leaves behind.

Jay's never been banned from E1.

They never had mods and he along with the rest of us all left because of trolls.

Oh, that's right, you've been caught with your pants down once too many times, now you reep ... I see.

Once again, the communication system is broken down, I used my real name, (Frank), as my log in back in 2002 on E1, (as I did here), after I purchased Elvis: 30 #1 Hits. There's no hidden message or mystery Lakeisha.

Like I previously stated, just in case you still can't figure it out, I never posted that much. I just went there for reference and news.
