I recently took these pictures of the Von Braun Civic Center here in Huntsville, AL where EP performed at from May 30-June 1 1975. I was at the evening show on June 1. I was able to get permission to take the picture inside the arena by the administrations office. So yu can thank them for that.

Photo 1 is the exterior of the arena taken across the street last week in the old Hilton parking lot. Now the Holiday Inn. It looks today as it looked in 1975. What you see in this picture EP saw on May 30 when he arrived from the Hilton to the back entrance (to the left of the arena) to enter the building for his very first concert in Huntsville.

Photo 2 is the inside of the arena. The stage pictured is in the exact position and location as EP's was. EP entered the back through a side door (to the right of the big brown middle door). The arena seats around 7,000. Nothing has changed since then.

You guys are welcome! What a lot of fans and people seem to forget is that it was after the June tour in 1975 that EP and his health started to go down hill as a performer and a person.

So that's your concert arena, huh?

Not bad. It looks so big in that first pic, like a football dome stadium, but it looks small from the inside pic. Maybe it's an allusion, lol.

I love that pic of him standin in the black suit. He looks stylish, even for today.

I think some of his suits made him look bigger than he actually was, because of the material.

These make him look slim and fit, not fat and bulgy.

Thanks Jay for that info as well!

Someday I'm gonna have to come to Huntsville to visit you and you and Anna can take me, Trey and Justin all around your city.

I wanna see that new town center you were tellin me about in the email. That sounds like fun.

I was wondering same thing! lol.....I also read Diane's response - I hope they were orignally red - because otherwise - Elvis sure was getting a good laugh at their expense! :lmfao:

Great pics Jay, thank you for posting these...Elvis looked great in these.

Those pics are wonderful!

I wonder what Elvis would be like, as far as image goes, if he hadn't wore those suits?

I don't think he would be seen as the icon and legend he is today because of the fashion and style he had, if he had worn just plain clothes durin his concerts.

That's what Beyonce said, when she thinks of Vegas, she thinks of Elvis and the flash.

Elvis was definitely lookin sexy in those pics. It's hard to believe how fast he changed.:(

Btw, that booty is lookin nice in that 1 pic of his backside in the red and white suit, lol.

Diane

I have to disagree here. Elvis had enough flash in his incredible voice and looks, he could have done exactly the same if he'd been clothed in rags.

I know what you mean and I do agree with you. But I think Lakeisha is saying that the jumpsuit look is as iconic as anything when it comes to image. Take away that look and you have a normal looking man. That was why EP went with the jumpsuits in the first place. Because they were unique and his own style that nobody else had to call theirs.

Though I get what your saying w/the jumpsuits, I would hardly classify Elvis as a "normal looking man"...he still had presence when he did Vegas in '69 in the black suit...he didn't need the jumpsuits to give him presence onstage or anywhere else.:D So I have to agree w/Diane's statement totally.:) But I do agree w/your comment that he wanted something different from everyone else, though soon they to followed suit.:)
