I think his voice was the best for rock songs around 55, and also in 68-69.
But he had a great voice through his whole career, maybe I have this impression because he did rock songs mainly in the years I mentionned

It really depends on the type of rock you're talking about.
But in terms of the slightly gravelly and rough voice needed to strongly carry solid rock tunes, there's no question about it ...
'68 to '70.

I agree with you guys. Sure Elvis could still rock some good tunes through the 70's and he did with hits like T.R.O.U.B.L.E, Promised Land etc..but then his voice didn't have that Rockin' edge as it did in '68 and '69 imo.;)

This is a tough one....I kind of have the same problem as Getlo here...not too sure what is meant by "Rock"..... but I`m guessing that you mean the more modern up-to-date rock sound rather than the more country/blues sounding earlier rock`n`roll...... if this is the case....then 1969....i think that each year after that the rock became more diluted with other sounds.... the live Rock`n`Roll from the `69 Vegas shows...well...it Rocks!!(y)

I think 1968-1972 would do it for me.If given any good rock material he would prove what he had reguardless of what year really.
