I don't understand it either, what good is it to someone else? She has kept fairly quiet over the years, why now, i would treasure something so personal like that that forever.
Do you think it could be for financial reasons!!!!

Maybe she really needs the money. It may be hard for her but she has no other choice.

I don't think anita needed the money, maybe she wanted to noticed more by the fans. Look at Ginger for example she's still selling things.

I don't understand how anyone can sell these things if as they claimed they loved Elvis so much. How can you compare $$$$$ to love?

It seems in today's world $$$$$ makes the world go round and that is all some people care about. How very sad to see people stoop so low.:'( Dovey

Perhaps, she got a pretty good reason and I hope it is worth it. Let's just hope it lands on the right person and place for sake keeping.

Is this the love letter that Anita said she did not know how it got into someone else's hands? I had heard Anita say this before, that she had no idea how the letter got into someone else's hands......but it sure sounds like she gave it to the auction house.....hhhmmmmmmm :hmm:

The only way I would have some understanding as to why she sold that letter is if she really needed the money - and I mean desperately needed the money - but I don't think that is the case and it really amazes me as to how she could sell something so precious. I know I would never do this.

To bad she has to sell this letter. Who knows why. Elvis sounded sad in the letter.

Let's see the brighter side: this will make one fan very, very happy...I guess Anita needs money, or maybe her relationship with Elvis isn't such a good memory?

IMO; this is way too personal to sell.
If I didn't want it, I'd just destroy it and no one would ever know.
It takes all kinds, I guess.

If selling the letter bring her joy let her have it. After all it's dedicated to her she owns it and it's her call. In my opion it's a shame she's selling it away. And with all due respect toward Anita, she shows a lack of respect by selling it. After all it was filled with love.
I hope she gets what she wants though.(y)

It is very sad indeed that Anita would part with such a personal Item, I'm sure that she has her reasons, please let us hope it is not a frivolous reason......

My father in law had a 30,000 record collection, 78s, 45s, and albums. He had all of Elvis's records including all 5 Sun 45s and all 5 Sun 78s. Johnny Cash Sun records, Al Jolson originals, etc... He was wanting to leave them in his will to someone to keep the collection together.
We told him we could not guarantee we could-because circumstances change and you never know what might force your hand. It was as truthful as we could be. He died and my wifes step mother got them.-She sold them shortly before she died-she was ill and needed the cash.

It is a very sad situation when someone has to part with something dear to them because of financial difficulties, sometimes life sucks (n)

That I can understand KPM and JJ in a case of have to, but it is sad for someone to get that desperate. I have my doubts that that is the case for Anita though as she had always been know to have held down some very good jobs. If I'm wrong, then I feel sorry for her.

I wish I had it in my collection, along with the stuff Ginger Alden was selling. If any new Elvis auctions come along I hope somone will post the info on these forums. The last big Elvis item I heard about selling at auction was a gold plated gun that Elvis gave to Jack Lord. It was from his estate sale & sold for $28,000!

Sorry, but wasn't this love letter sold like 10 or 15 years ago?

The current link on eBay is for a reproduction!

And in any case, it's Anita's to do with what she likes. Good luck to her.

It does not matter how long ago it was we are simply putting our thoughts in writing about how we feel that she has sold the love letters, we dont all agree with one another we just want to disscus it.

I have read over the posts of Ginger selling Elvis items and this one and having thought a bit more about each of them, I honestly can't see either lady being in desperate enough straits to warrant these sales - haven't heard of them suddenly becoming street people for instance. My only conclusion is that he didn't mean that much to either of them.

What are you two talking about? Who said anything about not discussing it? I'll have to remember that line next time someone rips into myself and others for discussing Elvis' drug use. ;)

As for Anita or anyone selling their Elvis items ... I decided a while back that one day - I don't know when yet - that I will sell my Elvis collection for as much money as possible, except for a few essential LPs, CDs and books. When I have a few more years on me, probably, and towards what I hope will be the end of my long life.

That way, some younger fans will get to enjoy it as I have. I have no one to leave it to anyway. And, if I had something that Elvis had actually given me, it would also go. Show me the money!

As they say, you can't take it with you.

So for Anita (and Ginger, btw, in relation to the other thread) their Elvis stuff is theirs to sell. It's no business of ours what their motivations are.

It all depends on how you look at things. Some people are not so atached to material things and no one will take their memories from them, that is more important anyway. They are just clothes and a piece of paper and whoever bought those things and paid such big money will sure take care of them.
Iīm sure they keep other things from Elvis and we donīt know it.

Couldnīt remember what the letter said exactly and just went to read it.
NO WONDER IT MEANS LITTLE TO HER.
Cīmon he was lying more than other thing to her in it. I would have made the same if I were Anita, grab the money and buy me something nice or whatever.
What a nerve Elvis had!

Sorry Elvis :king: you deserved it LOL.

Well, these letters were certainly hers to do with as she pleased...I don't think that is in question. I guess that some people, like me, are just more sentimental than others. Dollar value and sentimental value are two very different things.

Basically, is there a difference between selling something like this, or selling memories and private and/or intimate moments by recanting them in a book or movie? Let's face it...the majority of people who were close to him have done it! Hmmm :hmm:, makes me wonder though, how many women have had a relationship with Elvis, be it physical or emotional, and have chosen to keep it to themselves...??? :supriced:
