hey all im kinda new here but am loving all the interestin threads going

anyway let me get to the point, i was watchin an interview with Jonathan Rhys Meyers and he was talking about when he got shown around Graceland for the first time. In the interview he said he didnt realise how small it seemed compared to todays standard of entertainers homes. He said today it would be the standard of Rod Stewarts guests house!

anyway my point is if Elvis was still alive do you think he would of left Graceland for a bigger home or just expanded it????????

I don't think Elvis ever would have left or sold Graceland. He loved it so much and I think it was very important to him because his mother had lived there once and he bought it back in the 50s...
Maybe he would have bought another, bigger house though...:hmm:

... or he would have built himself another one next to GL on one of the adjacent areas. he certainly never would have sold or left GL for good, be it alone because his beloved mum had lived there.

if .... IF! .... in 77 he indeed had plans to get rid of a significant part of his MM entourage, the house probably would have been big enough just for him, his girl-friend (whoever this would have been) and lisa-marie when visiting, plus the few people and the staff remaining to live in the house with him. maybe he would have moved the rest of the MM to another building? just an idea, extrapolating some of what was stated to have been his plans in 77

hugs, ellie

I don't think he would ever have left Graceland. He loved that house. He said he felt at home as soon as he drove through those gates.

Graceland is small in comparison to celebs houses. But I think that, it had nothing to with size in this case. He wasn't as wild as people made out to be. That's the impression I got from Graceland.

No way to know for sure, but I would doubt it. :king: ELVIS bought Graceland for his mom and so I think he would have always kept it because of the emotional attachment to it.
You can have a home so large it doesn't feel "homey" but instead like a hotel. :king: I think Graceland was the perfect size home.

I agree (y)

It's not so big, compared to celebrities' houses today but I think he would have never left Graceland...he loved that house and had so many memories (y) He bought and lived in many houses but I think that he always looked forward going back to the only "HOME" he had

I agree. He would not need so much room now.
It would be big enough for his purposes today..(y)

Don`t think he would have left Graceland....the impression I always got was that it was the only place he ever really called home.....plus it was one of his dreams come true..the house he wanted for him and his family long before he became rich and famous.

I think Elvis may have invested in some new houses maybe in Las Vegas or L.A. but i don't think he would have ever moved on from Graceland, too many memories in it for him, and also memories of his mother! He could never leave the place behind, there is a part of his heart in Graceland for sure!

NO WAY! Elvis loved Graceland, it was his home. I don't think that he would ever have given it up. I think that he may have considered adding on to it, if he felt the need, but it meant too much to him for him to just up and move on.

It is a gorgeous house. Not too big but very cozy.
Beautiful grounds too, so peaceful.
If I would have lived there I wouldn't have traded it with any of those new stars mansions at all.

Elvis wasn't into showing off to the world, he loved Graceland and that's all that mattered to him.

I think he may have bought some of the surrounding area around the mansion and maybe enlarged the house but I doubt very much if he would have moved to another house.

Elvis wasn't a 'keep up with the neighbors' kind of guy. He'd seen what the other guys had when he was in Hollywood & Hawaii. Diudn't he have bigger houses when he lived im Hollywood? Didn't he rent out some Saudi prince's home while he worked there?
He simply loved Memphis. He added quite a bit to it. The stables, the racquetball court, the poolhouse, if he wanted it bigger, it would be bigger. He loved being home at Graceland & loved going home to Memphis.

It maybe small by today's standards, but it's a helluva lot bigger than MY house! LOL

I can see where Mr. Meyers came from with this understatement and in way it is a small place compared to some other stars' houses but Graceland was Elvis' home. I very much doubt Elvis would have left Graceland.
Nice thread by the way.

I don't think he ever would have replaced Graceland, though I'm quite sure he would have redecorated it and added to it, just as he'd done in 1974 and prior.:) I've heard he actually had plans to redo part of the house when he died. I don't remember which of the guys said it though.
